201 rwhp 6 port secondary bridgeport

I know alot of people don't like the idea of bridgeporting six port engines but I actually think this engine has worked out all right, Its a 6 port 13b with the secondarys bridged and the primarys extended, it uses the factory intake manifold(modified a little) and is using a megasquirt ecu,
Im not sure why the dyno chart backs off at 6500rpm, the owner seemed to think that the tuner didn't want to push it as its a newly rebuilt engine, Ill try and find out, there might be a bit left in it yet!

Nice! Although, the stock intake is really holding that setup back isn't it? Wonder what it would do w/ Itb's?

aerosev 07-25-12 08:01 PM

I talked to the engine tuner he seems to think it would make a bit more with a different intake, he also said the car didn't have enough gas in the tank to continue so they left the tuning at that, he said there was a bit more to come out of it in its current format.
The owner is keen on getting a retune when he has a few miles on it so Ill post up the results of the retune.

Were the 5/6 ports functioning?

I remember reading the s4 na intake runs out of breath at 6500 rpm, swapping to the itbs or s5 intake would probably be the best option, or custom manifold.

i'm calling shenanigans.

the engine should breathe to 8500 or more with decent intake and exhaust flow and with your dyno chart even if it tapers off it would be in the 240+whp range.

dyno is fubar or someone is blowing smoke.

ps: is that a shot of NOS from 6k-6400? could be a S5 with dynamic chamber opening up but still, if so then the intake is still going to push into the 8400 RPM range before falling flat.
sorry for the sarcasm but i smell bullshit. i run n/a's up to 9k when tuning and i don't even flinch. if he's worried about blowing an n/a then he shouldn't be tuning. i mapped a PFC to cell 20P 20N @ 22psi, now that is a little scary.

Sorry its no shenanigans, I would post more pics and details but the owner is Currently living at the other end of the country but he is moving back down here and plans retune it and then run it down the strip, so when its down here Ill shoot some videos of it on the dyno etc so you can see it for yourself,
And as mentioned in my second post above the tuner stopped because the car was running out of gas and he had no time to fill it up not because he didn't want to lean on it,

No the 5/6 control system was all removed to try and get a bit more flow through the manifold

The engine tuner said that swapping the itbs would yeild a bit more power, but there is still a little bit left in it even in its current state.

The problem is most definitly the intake manifold.

Heres a short walkround video of it

I look forward to more of this car, and how it was ported. Use Templates?

Heres a pic of the bridge ports, the centre plate was extend ported (or street ported for those in the USA) There was no port template they were just measured out. I think the secret is not to go overboard on port size. The exhaust ports were opened up a little bit and inserts swapped for turbo inserts.

damn that sounds angry as f**k! love how the pulse and even revving sounds doubled up.

Thanks! I was looking for a decent example. Yeah I would really like to get a template. And to no surprise I have found none.

I'm thinking about getting a Pineapple Racing "Street port Large" plate and going from there.

Can't wait for further tuning results!

ill have to put up some picks of myn soon

ever get any times or speed numbers?

that graph still looks all sort of wrong to me, i've never seen a rotary pickup so much power in the high revs without an extremely modified intake system. that peak simply looks like breakup on the dyno right where the intake should be clamping down on the flow and i would call it an unreliable reading. if you plot the graph linearly it is probably more in the 185ish range which is a more reasonable expectation.

the above number is still nothing to be ashamed of either, the power curve is smooth and broad.

i would simply never show a graph like that to a customer and say it made that number because it's clearly not accurate and just a hiccup on the rollers. on one car i managed to make 1500whp! of course that graph went straight into the can. look at the graph and average it out in your head and i'm sure you will see where i am coming from. the intake has no port that gives a major power boost in such a small range, climbing radically where it should begin levelling off, the stock intake almost always peaks at 7000-7300 RPMs with the ideal setup.

Hi again sorry for the slow reply, I haven't been on the forum for a few months been flat out, again I didn't tune it I just ported it and modified the intake, the tuner is this guy RX7 Heaven - NZ's leading performance rotary shop hes got alot of experience if you doubt his graph or dyno I guess you could email him and take it up with him directly We have no more numbers as the car is here in Nelson New Zealand at the owners Mums house and the owner is in Perth Australia and has just opened up a paint shop https://www.facebook.com/#!/DJsmashrepairLTD so is very busy and only uses the car for about 2 weeks a year when he comes home so has not bothered taking it to get retuned, sorry I don't have any more info but if you wan't more info on it contact the owner through his link I have posted Im sure he will be happy to answer your questions
