10th Ae Pull
Well I finally got my car tuned by Steve Kan. I have a warped downpipe (REALLY bad exhaust leak where dp connects to turbo). Ignition was breaking up. (Need to run all 9s instead of the 9s and 7s for spark plugs) and it wouldn't hold boost ;[ I would adjust the mbc to 15 psi, but would only see 14 psi @ 4.5k rpms then it would drop to 11 psi. It made about 296 rwhp @ 7k...so when I fix all my problems I should be making 320+ rwhp. I was slightely dissapointed, but once I fix everything I should be happy
Steve tuned my car slightely rich to compensate for when I fixed my boost and exhaust issues. Well, once I fix all my problems I'll take it to the dyno for a few pulls and keep you updated

the spark breakup issue does need to get resolved, it didn't even look like it had peaked out fully yet but maybe only a couple extra HP, still would have been nice to get everything setup properly rather than try to rush it and not get everything setup just right beforehand.
well sounds to me that you have one of the older style bnr stage III's. Does the wastegate arm have a turn buckle on it or is it just a straight piece of metal? Reason I say this is because on the older style turbo's the amount of boost would actually force the stock crapy spring to open early thus not giving you the full potential of the turbo. Best thing to do is take the turbo off and drill a hole a little closer to the wastegate actuator thus putting a preload on that spring which in return makes it harder for the turbo to open up the wastegate resulting in higher boost.

I see you saw my post on how I set up my PCV. I should note I did that after cutting my own oil feed gaskets going all the way down until 1/8" to solve the smoking problem. I was having with my hybrid (non BNR). I'd try that first before you send it back but go down in inner diameter size gradually (my oil seal clearances were very tight from what the turbo rebuilder told me and 1/8" ghetto feed gasket restrictor was fine). May have to drive it around a while also to burn off any excess oil.
yep, it's leaking down the cartridge and the exhaust smokes a bit at times. worth a shot at the ghetto gasket mod, lol. i will let nick know and maybe we will just try that if he wants to try it.

Dude I have a Home Depot racing car.....of course I wanna try the ghetto fab way
EDIT: How long have you been using your gasket for? Hasn't fallen apart or anything? I dunno if I'd want it going through my bearings. But yeah any problems you've run into?

Been through 2 track events no problem
I forget the thickness of the gasket paper I used but just use good judgement. I used the thick construction paper material. It'll compress a little once the bolts are tightened down making a really nice seal. The temp rating for that gasket sheet wasnt very high but it's held up fine for several months and 2 track days so it's good in my book.

I see. Over 7,000 rpms or so would I experience any oil starvation? Bryan wanted me to send him my oil feed line so he could put a restrictor pill in it, but said something about not going over 7k ( i forgot what) My peak hp is going to be right around 7.5k once I put the colder plugs in so ignition won't break up so soon.
what kind of turbo? BNR stage1? stage2? i made 292whp on my t04b hybrid back in the day (equivalent of a bnr stage1) at 14psi
also, an electronic boost controller isnt going to fix your bleeding boost problem. it may help it slightly, but it wont fix it.
but good luck with that anyways.

Seems like alot of people making around the same numbers with the BNR turbos. Nice job.
< Check my VBgarage for my dyno. Look at one of the timeslip buttons. Looks very similar to yours.

shut up and keep to the fd boards, traitor!
im going to up the spring pressure and see if that helps, need to fix the downpipe issue first though and also the oil pressure. why the hell does everyone think that higher oil pressure is better?

60 lbs and a lil more time to time isn't lol...but yeah, Bryan said it would fix it..if I send him my turbo and it still won't hit 15 psi, he'll be hearing from me

haha so many problems
