Going to the drag strip tonight...

Guys,

After reading your threads on here, I have a feeling I'm going to wind up embarrasing myself. My car is a project car. It has a pot-pourri of mods, and I've just recently got it back to running in non-self-destruct mode. It has a ~silver-ish primered 'Fast & Furious' cheesie looking front end on it. The rest of the body is pretty decent. The previous owner ran it into a telephone pole. My priority with this "project" is:

1. Return the car to a mechanically (engine) sound condition
2. Do ALL the reliability mods.
3. Fix the front end, and possibly repaint the whole car.
4. Get serious with what's under the hood (show and go).

The car is not registered, and not yet insured, so its not wise to take it out on the roads. The local track is $10 for as many times as you want to run down.

My runs tonight will be kind of like a benchmark. I want to know the BEFORE & AFTER. Tonight will be the BEFORE. Although, when I first brought it home, it wouldn't make boost, so really before was completely in the pits.

All I have to say is, you guys cars are DAMN FAST! A totally stock 7 is supposed to 13.9 @ 99 or so. I'm thinking I'm going to be happy with anywhere near a 13.5.

I'll be on street tires ... what psi should I lower my rear tires to? Or should I bother?

If my runs are pathetically slow, I'll be making up some cheesie reasons why I won't post them.

My RX7 ran 13.40 @ 102mph completely stock.

Don't mess with the tire pressure if you're running radial street tires. Just run it and try to keep yourself from blowing the tires away or wheelhopping.

Dang LUPE, now I really AM going to be embarrassed. If I can't beat 13.40, I'm going to go into hiding!

I won't be doing burnouts. It seems kind of silly to me when stock Camaros and Mustangs do it. Being a 5 speed, I'm not sure I'd have the coordination for it.

I think the tires are at 32 to 35 psi (can't remember what I set them at). You don't think it would be worth lowering them down to 25 or so?

Personally I would (and did) go for trap speed. This isn't a drag car (in stock form) so why launch it w/stock suspension stuff and possibly break something?

From what you said, it doesn't seem like you need more to fix.

BTW my best time was a 13.6xx I think. My best trap was 107mph and was never lower than 105.5xxmph. The above speeds were my "baseline" trip also.
