What color should I repaint these?
I am going to be repainting these wheels which i just bought..... they are going on my white FC. I have pondered a few different ideas but I can't make up my mind. Some might call this rice, but i am leaning towards a Kelly Green for the spokes or Red... but at the same time, white or gold spokes would look good. what does everyone else think?

and example of what green i mean
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7213/takataso2.jpg http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/4223/04nsxsanle3.gif and red wheels http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/5...gt3red2kq5.jpg we all know what other colors look like |
Green wheels on your white FC makes me want to puke...
well what color would you like? I didn't ask what color you would NOT like..
I clicked Gold =O]
i saw that after i posted :)
I personally feel on a white car, you have a good amount of choices...black, gun metal, a dark hyper or light hyper, silver, gold, light bronze, dark bronze, but please stay away frpm anything bright of color. That does not include chrome though, chrome would look nice also...
i really don't want to go with a black or gunmetal just because it has been done over and over and over again.
Gold FTW!
gunmetal gray
but in all reality, do what you want, you are the person who will be driving it, and as a result as long as you are happy, who cares what anybody else thinks (unless they are extremely shallow with low self esteme) kenn |
that super silver the SSR SP1 comes in, not gray not silver but uh, different and NICE!
or maybe a deep deep blue would be cool, with a little bit of metal flake and tons of clearcoat. dont do green or red. ugh. overkill to be different. you could do gold on one side of the car and polished on the other side.... DOPE! |
white, go with gold. :)
gold
ok, well now for a new question... what paint should i use? I want to do a quality job that will last so what paint do people use/prefer for there wheels?
powder coating would be better, but you have to remove the tires.
luckily they are 3 piece wheels :) so disassembling them won't be a problem.

That pic makes me vote gold- no question.
Gold w/polished lip on a white FC= high drool factor. |
if you paint your wheels red, you'll just look like every other honda tuner who has red wheels and a polished lip.

I think i am going to go gold. that picture has me sold.
by the way, how are you painting the wheel with? I plan to paint my wheel gold too but keep the step lip polish. I assume you painting the part that is black right now?
thanks |
yeah, i am going to paint the spokes gold and resurface the lips. I spent a little time the other day with a microfiber cloth just rubbing the lips and they will clean up pretty good but I am still going to sand them down. and since they are 3-piece i wont have to do any masking. I will post pictures when i start the process in January, school comes first. :)
people have said to use dupli color. |
just hit the lips with 2000 grit wet sand paper and mothers polish...then with toilet paper and mothers and they will look like chrome
don't forget the clear coat after you sand!
oh yeah, clear coat is going on too. I want this job to last. some people don't use clear and have no problems with it but clear will be less work in the long run.
you done with these yet? I wanna see pics of the finished wheels.
green
wow, thought the thread was dead lol. no not done yet, probably going to get some work done this weekend though. I actually was really busy during my winter break and didn't have much time to get around to it. I will definitely make sure to post pics when they are finished. even if the thread is done by then

ok so in breaking news, I just broke the wheels apart and will be painting tomorrow after i strip the old paint off and prep them. pics to ensue!
takata green is awesome, but if its not on te's than its just not the same.
everythings so played out, even hot pink haha, so i dont even know. |
nice action shot. i think that red looks good. shun the nonbelievers!!
it seems like the only wheels you see that green on are te37s lol. must be a volk thing. |
i had a set of those advan sa3's, red as well. those wheels kick fucking ass.
do red |
man seeing that wheel in red is givig me second thoughts about the gold.. (i change my mind ALOT)
Only because no one ever compliments my car, here's some more red

I can't wait to get my 17x10 5zigens so I can run the pictured setup on the streets. edit: all of these pics are before I polished the lips on the SA3s, I got them mad cheap with seriously oxidized lips that have since been cleaned up. |
are the still red in the center?

ok so the process has begun. I am going with gold but only on one wheels so i can see how i like it before i do them all.
here is what the rims themselves look like minus the centers. getting the bolts loose was no problem but being so many of them, it took forever to get them all off. once they were off like someone said, I cut the silicone beads that were on either side of the center section. i had to go around a few times to get all the way down and then i took a square tipped knife and stuck that down in between the rim and the center to force the little bit of sealant apart. http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5198/dsc00617bm2.jpg http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/3215/dsc00618xh6.jpg http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/3...153ea79a37.jpg I was actually under the impression that the two rims would have a lip that came over the center section, kind of like a calzone (for lack of a better metaphor) but instead the center section came out through the two rims like a sandwich. the aircraft stripper worked well but what i didn't anticipate was the shitty job done before hand. the previous owner simply sprayed over the factory paint so i had like 3 layers to take off. the picture is after about 4 applications of the stripper and you can see that not all of it was taken off. http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5734/dsc00619vs4.jpg then i primered the center and pictures of the paint should come tomorrow. I did a little sanding on the primer before the paint. currently the first coeat of paint is drying. http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/9613/dsc00621ik4.jpg |
so here is a quick picture of what the paint looks like. at first i was kind of turned off by the shade but i really like it once i saw it against the lip. as can see i do have to add a few more coats on the sides of the spokes but you can get the idea.

Thats a sharp color actually.
