S-AFC II Installed (Problem)

Today I installed an S-ACF II in my 86 N/A.
I have run into a small problem.
After soldering all the wires in, I cranked her up, it idled for a few seconds and then died out allmost as if I had forgotten to plug in the Airflowmeter-plug, but I havent.
If I redo the AFM wire the car runs fine, but as soon as the signal has to go through the SAFC the motor dies out:(
All the sensors are within spec. except IN-2 which reads 0.040Volts, but im not sure whether its used in FC´s...
Any ideas are highly appreciated.

Kim

Yes, I want an SAFC section too.

did you set it? I know that might be a problem...cuz the controller can't recognize which car it is "controlling" lol. I can't remember right now but in the manual it should say how to set it. cylinders you should put 4 and some shit like that. I will let you know later. IM me Madrx7racer if I am online.

i dont have one

Kim 11-04-03 02:53 PM

Here is a few pictures from when I made the radio/Apexi surround
I made it out of Polycarbonate(Lexan) The S-AFC II is a press fit, so no dual adhesive tape needed:) Its been painted flat black with paint used for my R/C cars. Gotta use what you have in stock:D

A few more will follow when im all done, right now its time to go to work:wavey:

I had the same problem because the stock afm wires werent connected to the right afm cables on the SAFCII. Before you start the car make sure the number CYLINDERS is set to 4 with the THROTTLE arrow rising to the right and the sensor type should be FLAPPER and 05 for in and 05 for out (since I see you have an 1986 FC). Hopefully it helps!

RarestRX 11-04-03 06:29 PM

Yo,

I just got a S-AFCII, I think it's a good idea to have a section with people's settings, etc.

Use these intructions. I installed mine EXACTLY the way it said and ive had no problems what so ever.

edomund 11-04-03 07:53 PM

I wish more people would share their settings also. Instead of always saying just go dyno.

Sometimes we can't (like during breakin).

I'll share mine as soon as I get back from dyno tuning tuesday! :)

Ronac 11-04-03 08:03 PM

I don't think you can share settings. Each car runs differently due to mods and many other factors.

edomund 11-04-03 08:40 PM

You can't, it's just for reference.
And it's very helpful when you are running 4x720cc and cant dyno for 1500 miles.

Do you have one?

Kim 11-05-03 12:52 AM

Does anyone know about Eurospec N/A ecu´s(N322) I cant seem to figure out which one is RPM signal.
Eurospec cars has Dizzy not CAS.
I might have to go to the Mazdashop to find out:(

J-Rat 11-05-03 01:37 AM

As soon as I get tuned with my 4x720s, I will post the settings, just for reference.

edomund 11-05-03 01:55 AM

Me Too jrat but I think I'm going with the pressure sensor instead of tps.

We will always run way rich unless on boost with our 720's otherwise. Check out the other s-afc thread for my idea on how to tune it with ps.

J-Rat 11-05-03 02:00 AM

I already read it...Problem is, I am already boosting to 14 PSI!...

edomund 11-05-03 02:32 AM

Shouldn't matter.
Using the tps doesn't sense more boost you are just tuning your boost levels with the rpm since your almost always at 100% throttle.

Wouldn't anything over 14 psi read 5v also (high throttle map)?
I think you could use the pressure sensor also.

It would just use lo for no boost (cruising) and
high for boost.

J-Rat 11-05-03 01:07 PM

I agree. There are some tuning issues to be looked at, but it would be so much more linear of a fuel delivery curve.

Not the "off or on" crap I am seing with my TPS.

Kim 11-08-03 02:41 PM

Does anyone know? which wire in the ecu is Airflowmeter signal, im using an N322 ecu.

Ive tapped into the wire from the Apexi installation manual, but I have an european FC which is a bit different, I have everything set up and it looks very nice, but it doesnt fucking work:D

Any suggestions are more than welcome...

As promised earlier in this thread. A picture of my setup

Fingers 11-08-03 02:56 PM

It's the only one that's shielded with a thick braided outer jacket, covered with clear blue electrical tape. European ECU or not, the harness are the same if I recall correctly

Kim 11-08-03 03:06 PM

Thanks I will take a look at it tomorrow.
The wireing harness is different than what it says in the Haynes manual, RPM signal is different as we have Dizzy´s on our S4´s:( And obviously so is AFM signal

Kim 11-12-03 05:43 PM

Is it possible to have a friend operate the flapper door and then check for a changing voltage at the ecu???

Haha Fingers I love your "Ego pollution" that is so true

need-a-t2 11-14-03 09:28 PM

i was just wondering if any of you got the knock function to work. i just purchased an AFC II, and i would like to know if the knock function is going to work on my car.

need-a-t2 11-18-03 09:36 AM

no one?

pp13bnos 11-18-03 06:48 PM

ok guys, here is my settings. Use them at your own risk!

1k 0%
2k-3%
3k-20%
4k-20%
5k-16%
6k-15%
7k-29%
8k-27%

Mods where (And I stress "where" because now I have a 8 loosers!!:D ) Dual 2" manderl bent exuast (True duel), Removed double throttle, and coolant flow to TB. Ported black elbo before TB. Ported upper, middle, and lower intake manifold. Pineapple Racing 6 port sleeves with removed 6 port actuating rods and rods through the sleeves. An extremely mildly ported 13B built by Pineapple Racing. Jacobs ignition wires, Short shift kit, with FD shift knob, T2 fuel pump, Hi-6. and a Apex S-AFC. Stock injectors.

These where the same settings that netted me 167rwhp on a mustang dyno. The car made peak power at a 14.25/1 a/f ratio. We spent probably 3 hours between the s-afc and tuning the ignition. I would not try these settings on your car. For some reason my car liked to run realy realy rich without the s-afc. CJ

SAFC-2 ??

anyone else have one... what's different?
i just ordered one, and i need to know what all to do.
