Going!

Great -- do you drive an RX7? If so, what year, etc? Will be glad to meet up with another rotary.

Rotor_Venom08 08-31-12 08:41 AM

hmmm very interesting.. :egrin:

DrKillJoY 08-31-12 01:11 PM

I'll be there, but not driving.

What will you be doing there?

BUMP guys -- there are only a few spots left!

DrKillJoY 09-13-12 10:14 PM

I've worked them for years. I worked Start/Finish last weekend.

DrKillJoY 09-13-12 10:53 PM

This was my view most of the weekend...

Sweet dude... can't wait! Hope I don't make a mockery of da rotary

Littleguy 09-15-12 01:41 PM

I think I met you today when you followed me home, haha. I'm going to try and sign up for the event on Monday.

chiefboon 09-15-12 05:58 PM

Hey Norm, that's right this is Stephen. Not every day I see another clean red FD (in fact I just commented this morning that it has probably happened six times in my life)! For the record I saw your car just outside your apartment complex, didn't follow you for 90 miles or anything, haha ;)

Let me know if you sign up! Even with that run of the mill LS2 it would be awesome running around with another super clean VR FD! :egrin:

chiefboon 09-29-12 04:44 PM

Not sure if anyone else has snuck in for the green group but it looks like there *may* be a few openings left!

TwistedRotors 10-02-12 07:49 AM

Just signed up this morning. I've done a few LeMons events but have never had any sort of on track instruction. This event should be helpful and fun. See you guys there!
-John

chiefboon 10-02-12 05:58 PM

Awesome dude, going to be in that clean FC? What color grouping are you signed up for?

Nah, not gonna be in the FC this time. I'm not sure if I'll ever want to put that car on a track. I'll be taking the Golf for this outing.

I'll be in the Green group. I'm a newb. Should be a great event, looking forward to it!

^^^ Watch out for turn 6 in the back straight. :)

Awwhhh, they put me on standby. There are still openings for the Green and Red groups but I guess I "qualify" for the Blue or Yellow group. I assumed since I had never run with them before then they would put me in the Green group. Oh well, I'll go to the event regardless and just hang out if I don't get to run.

Should be fine as long as no one tries to PIT maneuver me off the track. lol! On that note, how's your shoulder? And arm? And head?

Ahh, the burden of exceptionalism -- keep me posted!

Should I put painter's tape all over my front bumper to run this track? Just add 10x layers of wax beforehand? If you recall I'm the guy with the brand new red paintjob.

Head is still screwed up (a little more than before) and I'm having MRI's this week. They checked out my brain yesterday and working on the arm tomorrow. Hope to get some results next week!

MSR is a clean track. Look, the car is barely scratched from last weekend.

Yikes, did this happen at MSR -- post up the story if its not already on here.

But seriously, what is the condition of the track re: fresh paint at an HPDE event?

MSR is fine, Scott was "helped" off the track by another driver.....at ~70-80 mph. He then decided to go all out and roll the car over 4 or 5 times.

You could throw some extra wax and tape on the car but the risk is always there when you're racing. It'd be real hard for you to go uncontrollably off-track at MSR but accidents happen.

Now I see why they require a rollcage, it saved ur a$$. :D
Sorry about the injurys and the car, get better soon and come back harder!

DrKillJoY 10-04-12 07:18 PM

All I can tell is that damn mirror fell off.. :suspect: duct tape that shit back on there and get rolling. :)

You going to be ready for ECR in December?

6.3: Why Am I Upside-Down? Rule: You're upside-down because you have no business being out on a racetrack. Any driver who puts a car on its roof is out for the rest of the season, beginning immediately. Any car that rolls during a race will be removed from the race.

I'm out until January 1 next year. :(

LeMons HQ went one step beyond and disqualified the RX2 from any future LeMons competition.

They DQ'd the RX2? That's bullshit. Stupid fucking Camaro drivers.

DrKillJoY 10-05-12 10:52 AM

Aside from visible structural damage how bad (...err worse) is the RX2 underneath after the wreck?

Sorry to get this thread all off track.....time to get it back on the rails.

So I talked to Rick today and I guess when they originally evaluated my submission they put me in the wrong group. After chatting about what I wanted to get out of the course he thinks (and I agree) that I can benefit greatly by starting in the Green group. Woot woot! Looking forward to it!

Sweet! Getting married tomorrow then gone for two weeks but will be looking forward to this when I get back. Later gents.

I'll look for you Saturday morning John, specifically what car will you be in? All that is left for me is the tech inspection, heading to C&C Northside on Wednesday to get it all looked over.

Sounds good! I'll be in a blue VW Golf R. I'll look for you as soon as I get there. Gotta get that tech inspection done as well.

Just a bit of a follow-up, this event was by far the most fun I have ever had on-track at MSRH. When I originally signed up I was a bit worried about how much actual time we were going to have on track and after this weekend I can say that is not a concern at all. I've had hours on track at MSRH doing LeMons races and honestly I learned more before lunch on Saturday at this event than I ever did at LeMons. Nothing against LeMons, there's just a massive difference between "track time" and "quality track time", especially for someone new to the track racing scene like me. The Drivers Edge event was worth every penny (and then some) and I fully expect to participate in as many of their events as I can afford!

Big thanks to Stephen for having the idea to try this and I'm sure he will post up here soon as well. Seeing that gorgeous red FD on track practically brought a tear to my eye!

Now a couple pics, for those of you that aren't friends with me on FB (losers).

^^^ What is FB? Must be one of those Homo VW Things. :D

Anyhoo, LeMons only has two races scheduled for the Gulf region next year. Of course we are going to race Road America too (brrrrrr Wisconsin in November).

WHO has interest in racing this next April?

Chihuahua Express

^^^ I'm going to be driving and navigating. The team I was picked up by is racing a '63 Barracuda.

Anyone else raced this or interested?

Is this worthy of a new thread? :D

How can you NOT want to do this??? :icon_tup:

chiefboon 11-09-12 10:55 AM

Had an absolute blast, I'm hooked. Already signed up for the event January 26-27 same track. Spots still open but filling fast rotards!

I am still in green group for next go round, I imagine John will be in blue or yellow so come on out and enjoy the weekend. 3+ hours of track time, lots of valuable classroom time and very helpful instructors. Even got to go for a ride in a spec miata :shocking:

Driver's Edge is the best way to learn how to hit the track.

Will post videos as soon as my new computer arrives and can properly edit before throwing on YouTube.
