Whats your Spool time?
This would be an awsome addition to the sticky single turbo thread.
Id like to get an idea of what your spool time is and what turbo. For example TO4E starts spooling at 2,100 Full boost by 4,600. Id especially love to hear from you guys with T51s and the like. :bigthumb: |
TO4R
Starts winding up about 2800-3000 Full roar at about 3800-4K Port size will have a bit to do with the end results though. I have a big streetport and the hotside is .96 :) |
starts spooling at 2200-2300. not sure about when full boost is made yet. :D
|
starts spooling around 3200 and gets full spool right around 5000.
for a turbo this big, it really isn't as laggy as i thought it would be. |
Positive manifold pressure at 2kish rpms. Realy starts running 3.5k and full boost 4.5krpms. See my sig for all my mods. :) CJ

T66 1.0 p-trim from Innovative on an HKS cast mani and street ported motor ...
Latest datalog in 4th gear (3rd gear) at 90 degF ambient temps: positive boost by 2100 rpm 5 psi by 2830 rpm (3230) 10 psi by 3250 rpm (3690) 15 psi by 3570 rpm (4050) 18 psi by 3830 rpm (4350) Always thought my single turbo was responsive but the above did surprise me as I typed it. |

T78 with atkins street port
i get positive manifold pressure as soon as i hit the gas. i rarely drive under 2k, so i'd say that's a good point to start. i hit 10psi at 3200ish and 16psi at 4000. of course, this is in 4th gear and you really don't feel anything until around 4800 |
t61 with 1.0 t4 hotside... rx7store street port.
6 psi by around 3500rpms, havent turned it up yet :( oh and spoolin93r1, i LOVE your car. |
TD07-25g
Small street port No cats, 3-1/2" dp, 3" midpipe Starts spooling about 2400-2500rpm Full boost (16 lbs.) @ 3400 rpm 382 rwhp |
To4B 60-1 .96A/R .70 trim 4"inlet
Full boost by 5500rpm 15psi. lags like crazy. 3500rpm only 2psi. A month or diagnostics has not changed anything. Nice to see some of you guys hit full boost at 3500rpm. That is my goal:) |
ian so no change huh? that sucks. i hope you get that sorted out.
i'm begining to think if turbonetics sent you the right trim on your turbo? |

i'm begining to think if turbonetics sent you the right trim on your turbo? Was at the lights and went to hammer it on a grandam:) Car did nothing till 5700rpm and then went side ways. Its really annoying. I not even close to being happy. Car is still fun to drive but acts like an N/A. So far not even close to being worth the money. Happier with my modified stock setup last year. |
hmmm, welcome to the wonderful world of moddin
|
mm that sucks man i would get a second opinion on that turbo then. check out steve's diesel they are good..or call me i have a few contacts

Innovative Turbo Systems T72, "Q" Trim, 1.32 AR, Dual Ballbearing. I was able to build 14 psi by 2800 rpms, and I recall when we were on the dyno I was able to build 25 psi by 3k ish rpms.
In the next few weeks I will reply back in here with the results of the T76 turbo now. |
ebay exhaust manifold
tial 46mm wastegate tied back in. stock port greddy 2 row IC 3 inch straight exhaust till stock cat-back. I know...I know... t04s with .84 divided hot side All of the above components in a system need to be considered when considering spool. 9psi by 2900-3100 rpm. Thats all the boost Ive been running it on. But its pulling hard by that time. At the rate of boost climb, I would expect 15 psi should be reached by 3300-3400 rpm. Obviously the turbo/system was chosen for quick spool and as much torque as possible. John |
dont forget to mention your motor. im sure that has something to do with the fast spool time;)
|
My t04S is similar to above, but I don't hit the boost too hard in first and second because with plain old Proxes t1-s (even 9.5 265 rears) you just spin tires, so I go boost in between 2k and 2400 and climb to 16 by 4k to 4.4k. Some items that will affect spool time include your wastegate spring and your method of boost control. I have to set my old controller to open a bit sooner or it will get overwhelmed by the T04s and spike. When it goes out of adjustment I've seen 20 lbs by 4.4k (where I have my map tuned to go dead rich to the point of stumble, so I don't overboost on 91 gas).
Mild street porting, btw. What a great blend of power and response. Very happy with the to4S as a good street turbo. Beast |
I have serious issues then! The T04S is supposed to be like the T04B!
Motor is ported with 1993 rotors. |
man i hope you get er done soon man..
that will be a wicked track car when you figure what the hell is goin on |
i have a garrett 1.15 hotside and .60 comperssor, to4b, it starts spooling at 3k and gets 3psi at 3.5k, it stays at 3 psi the whole way up to 7.5k. i dont know what the problem is. the wastegate is closed and i cant make any boost. i might have gotten too big of a turbo and the car doesnt have enough power to spool it. it would be great if someone had ideas of what is wrong and point me in the right direction

T66 Qtrim on 81 a/r, i see positive at 2k and hit 20.4 lbs last night computer said 4400 rpms.
This is with a rough tune, so i believe it will hit even sooner. Also all my readings were good at 20 so im movin it up this weekend, hope it holds. mike |

^ Nevermind your running a 3 rotor . . . .
Nice setup though ;) |
ok i got a new turbo..... garret .86 ar on the hot side and .7 ar on the compressor.... hopefully this one works better. can anyone tell me if this will work on a stock engine (not ported). thanx

This is for the guys with serious spool problems... When I first went single my turbo would make good boost until it started to heat up. After I boosted it a few times the boost pressure would start to fall off until it barely made 1 PSI. I took it out and tried another one and it worked fine. I assume the bearings were not clearanced properly since the wheel spun freely while everything was cold, but binded up when the turbo became hot. My point is, there is a good chance the turbo may not have been built properly. If you have not yet swapped out your turbo for a known working turbo, then I would strongly recommend it.
I have a T04B 60-1, custom manifold and a street ported motor. I usually check my spoolup in 5th gear since it's easier to read in 5th. positive boost pressure is immediate 10 psi by 3100 15 psi by 3300/3400 With my old T04E I made 10 psi by 2800 15 psi by 3100/3200 |

I don't remember ever seeing these numbers posted? Have you finally gotten your new tranny? |
on a .7 comp sside and .96 backside, I make 10 psi no later than 4500 rpms stock ports, 4" thick IC, and about 24" length. Boost time also depends on gear. Also, I cannot hit more than 5 or 6psi in first gear. Second gear hits 10 instantly, only if I am boosting in first..It also doesnt decelerate as fast as other turbos I seen. You can let go of the gas, shift like your cruising, and not worry about building boost again..Its almost like having a ball bearing turbo, w/o the cost.. O and BTW its a Master Power T70( not that gay shit they sale online).
|
T04e 60-1 (.7 Comp & 1.15 hot side)
starts to spool about 3500 about 7psi at about 4000 14psi at 4800 340 Rwhp - Stock ports |
Master Power T-70, 1bar of boost in 1st gear by 6200rpm.
P.S...needs more tuning. |

slammed for christ's sake you can't do 1st gear. I think we should all try to stick with the same gear since that makes a huge difference...I mean 5th gear I'm spooled by like 3k....1st gear takes a while, thank god, since the car would be even more useless in 1st if it didn't.
kkk stage 2 boost response by just under 3k full boost by 3750 in 3rd 1.1 AR stock port |
Interesting thread, but I don't understand the "full boost by ####rpm" with out posting a boost number. sorry.
Here's mine. 88 turboII 4th gear, 3.9 gears, 235/45/17 tires. .96 a/r p-trim, "street" port intake with "large" exhaust ports. Start from a roll at 3000rpm in 4th gear, 1 bar at 3800rpm and 1.3bar at 4700rpms. AFR's in the eye burning/plug fouling range. Boost controller/waste gate problems so I have'nt hit "full boost" yet, 1.5/1.7 chuck |

Spool Time
Setup:
4inch inlet 60-1 w/. P-trim .84 divided hotside On: 3mm 13BT w/low comp rotors w/ very large streetport, FMIC, 3inch exhaust wg plumbed back in 10psi around 3200 rpm 15psi by 3800 rpm 18 psi by 4k i think these #'s could be brought down considering the hotside a/r with higher comp rotors or smaller exh ports (less over lap) justin |

you can pretty much pull out the entire rats nest. All you need for boost control is a vac line from your UIM to your WG. If you don't have anything hooked up to your WG then you should overboost. Therefore, I doubt yoru lines are messed up. Sounds like a bad turbo or a WG that's stuck open. You should be able to make more thatn 3 psi even if you havea 1.32 turbine on there.

Its pretty much hopeless since I had it to one turbo shop and they said it was good by looking at it but all of the shops want $550cdn + tax to pull it apart to make sure its ok. Sounds like some people on this post have the same problem as me :) |

the wastegate is really shut. there is no carbon seut in it or outside of it when i took it off. the wastegate isnt connected to the exhaust, its got an external pipe. it would mean that the car would be really loud, which it isnt. i guess the turbo on it is bad, but i had a tuner guy look at it and he said that it spun fine. i dont know... im just going to put the new turbo in this weekend and hope it works. thanx for your help
o, silver7 what do you mean just pull out the entire rats nest? do i plug any thing up? there are some kind of sensors under the intake manifold to which all the vac lines go.. can you send me some pics or a link to step by step instructions, because i have a hard time figuring out the whole mess. thanx. this is my first turbo modification to anything and nothing seems to work. i wish i had another car facing mine with the same set up so that i could compare and assemble it. lol also during the idle when the car is still cold, it runs fine, as soon as it warms up, it wants to die out, and it shuts off. the rpms drop down to like 400 and eventually the car shuts off when its just sitting there |
just finished putting in the turbo and took a test drive. wow, so much power at 7 psi. i changed the turbo to a .7 compressor and .86 hotside, garret. the turbo works great. i start spooling at 3k and at full boost (9 psi right now) at 4k... all the problems got fixed, the car runs fine, now i gotta find a filter that fits a 4 inch intake on the turbo... if anyone has any ideas pm me.
