What kind of HP to Expect from this setup?
Just curious on what to expect with this setup and tuning from XS.
Engine with 3mm Seals T78 Turbo (Actually A MHI TD-06) 50mm Wastegate Downpipe, Midpipe, Catback HKS Type S FMIC 550 Primary, 1600 Secondary with Fuel pressure Regulator Apexi Power FC & AVC-R Koyo Raditor ACT Clutch Kit No porting on the engine. I am curious how much boost I should be using, the turbo spools around 3800rpm I'm told. Usually high hp apps it's better to have an unported motor. I want to push 500hp if possible, but I am not sure if this setup will get me where I need to be. I might upgrade the fuel system to 850/1600 or 1000/1600 either way please post your insight and let me know what you all think! Thanks, -Darren- |
id say about 400 at 15 and 500 (maybe) 20-21 psi. conservatively tuned.... PORT IT!
|
I'd suggest 1000/1600, hell i even have 1300/1600 for my setup.(gonna go for high high hp sometime). I have the aeromotive 1000hp fuel pump. everyone says its loud but I can't even hear it.
|
why do you say port the engine? i hear for high hp, you want to leave it unported. Hrmm, can the engine safely handle 20psi? I dont want to blow another seal... hah
|
ummmm porting makes HP.... the bigger the port the more air u can force into the combustion chamber.
so a 1/2 bridge ported motor will make alot more power than a street port because it can flow alot more air into it. |
i'll check it out! Thanks for the info.. keep posting if you have any more suggestions.
|
Its not just the size of the port that makes horsepower but rather the method and other upgrades in conjunction with the port.

Hate to break it to you but a MHI TD06 is quite a bit smaller than a greddy T78. The T78 is a hybrid of the MHI TD08. A t-88 is a full TD08. I believe there are 3 different TD08s and the T-88 is the largest of the 3...That last part is a faint memory so don't quote me on it. There is zero chance that you can make 500 hp with the TD06...I think 400 is even tough. I haven't looked in a while but even the old greddy adds would say that the TD06 kit was basically for someone who was satisfied with the power of the twin setup but wanted to simplify things.

The turbo to the right is a smaller TD08. It is basically a T78. The one next to it is a T04b with a .6, .96 ar, the smallest is a t25. Have you seen your turbo compared to any other turbos? How big is it compared to these? Probably impossible to tell by pictures...

How long do 550's last with a gt42?
|
you don't need to upgrade your injectors

maybe not primary injectors, but 550/850 combo will max out pretty easy |
take another look at his current setup

NYT where on LI are you?

Yeah I was looking at his thing with the single turbo and ment he didn't need to upgrade the primaries like he was talking about right after his little list there. For some reason I was thinking his car actually had all that stuff and was getting tuned by xs right now...I am a little too lazy to read the small print sigs
|
I thought it wsa a TD06, this kit is a TD08 then... I purchased the kit off of WB2 so he knows the shit... I just wanted some ideas....
So TD08, not TD06 correct? lol |
Bigger porting changes your power band, spools bigger turbos faster, and achives higher hp#'s with less boost due to more airflow. Pick your port then match with a proper sized turbo for the power/responce that you want.
|
aww hey whats up...didn't know that was you. Yeah thats a TD08.
|
Rockin... whew... had me scared for a second! Your turbo is a hair smaller I believe you mentioned that. WHat are you pushing with your setup?
