turbo makes grinding noise - whats wrong...?
 

...I have a problem with my fresh build single turbo setup. Turbo is a new garrett GT3582R (1.06 A/R) ,T3 flange, manifold and downpipe are from a-spec, but a older version (T3), the complete exhaust is only mounted with the rubbers on the catback, rest hangs free (as the a-spec downpipe don't have a bracket on the original place).

In idle everything sounds fine, but when i rev up, there is some grinding noise, it seems the wheels have contact to the housing. I think oil pressure is ok, is around 2-4 in idle, increases with throttle, so i suppose there is a problem with the whole exhaust hanging on the turbo, but not sure.

i cannot believe that this sound is normal (even it seems it decreases with every minute the car was running), and i beware of driving the car before this is fixed...

Bearings are probably knocked out, and the turbine wheel is rubbing on the housings. 2-4 psi is way too low, should be roughly 30psi at idle. Engine is probably hurt too. Drain your oil and look for metal...

...i agree with you about the turbine wheel, but its hard to believe that the bearings knocked out, the turbo is brand new out of the box... :(

i meant the oil pressure gauge stands between 2-4, i think it reads in bar, so that should be around 30 psi (2 bar - 30 psi)...

Verify it reads in bar, 'think' doesnt work too well when it comes to oil pressure ;)

...would take a quick look into the manual to confirm this, but even if its kg/cm², which is nearly the same, the values should be ok...

..but anyways, problem is fixed. some of the bolts of the compressor housing were tightended too much, and so the space towards the wheel was too small...
