TO4R Finally Finished...lots of (huge) pics...not 56k friendly!!!
Ok so it is done. The car went under the knife two weeks ago today and was started for the first time today. I built this kit myself and did all the work other than downpipe in my garage. I don't have an air filter yet (ordered it last week, should be here tomm or monday). Car is not yet tuned, going to Rotorsports Racing next week.

The turbo costs 950, then the polishing is 60, then HPS is 60, then V-Band welding is 40, then V-Band Discharge kit is 115, and wet center section is 75. So the turbo all came out to be about 1300 and I had it in about two weeks after I ordered it. They also have TO4S, TO4E, T66, etc. The turbo has a 66.5mm inducer, 102mm inlet, and .70 A/R Compressor Housing. Hope that answers your questoin. M-P |

Well I got the HKS Manifold Part No. off of there website and gave it to a shop who sells HKS parts (not FD parts but they can get them). A week later I had my manifold, divided.

looks good. Me and garrett just put our motors in last week. still breaking mine in. i went for a 2 hour drive tonight, everything feels smooth as butter. Hey man your from hickory. another single in NC. We should definately meet up.

Alright just got the pics taken of the Airfilter installed. It is an S&B Power Stack Filter, 4" Inlet, 6" Length. Mounted on a 4" steel elbow that I also cut today. Filter is a little larger than expected. I should have no flow issues.

MP, the car looks beautiful. I highly recommend RotorSports, however they do not have a dyno to tune your car. I'm not sure if there is even a dyno close to them as they are a bit out in the sticks. If they will be dyno tuning the car, i would recommend bringing the car to www.undergroundracing.com in Charlotte, NC. If they are going to tune the car on the road, then nevermind :)

What they are planning on doing right now is tuning it on the road and are going to put together a big dyno tuning day for some 7's and then going to fine tune it then. They haven't decided when this day will be. But yea, Brian and Rusty at Rotorsports are great guys. They tuned it when I put the 1600's in and went nonsequential in May.

Agreed. Rusty and Brian are upstanding people. The shop is really in the sticks. I wonder if they can safely stretch your cars legs when tuning it. Best of luck and please keep us updated on the tuning.

Yeah, I've been dealing with Bryan for around 2 years now. He's helped me out in when my car has been at its worst. Usually after I've had my hands on it.
I think I'll contact him about dyno day and we can compare and contrast between the different set-ups. |

Well I just picked it up from being tuned today and all I can say is....best thing to ever happen to the car. I was hoping for 15 psi, but it seems that since my motor is not doing well on compression (60psi average on front, 68psi average on back) that it won't boost past 13psi. Although it does have full 12-13 psi before 4000 rpm and has 8psi by 3300 or so. I am getting the mazdaspeed team support guy next month, so I will be able to buy my motor and build it (street port) for relatively cheap for this summer, then hit a good 16-17 psi.
It should be dyno'd in the next few weeks. Possibly a dyno day with Rotorsports Racing and some other people from NC with single turbos. M-P |

No, that cut isn't stock. The HKS manifolds do not come with that small notch in the divider unless they suddenly changed their design within the past year or so.
You need to brush up on the collected versus divided debate in terms of exhaust design. That notch pretty much obliterated the advantage of the full divided exhaust design, and the putz who cut that out should be taken out and shot. -Ted |

Wow i didn't realize it was that bad. The thing is that it wasn't cut by someone after casting, that cut is part of the cast. Their are no scratches or cutting marks. The cut has the same consistancy with the reast of the manifold. Oh well whats done is done. It still feels great and Im still smiling. I will know better next time.

I am still waiting on a dyno date. Some guys are trying to put it together now. Shouldn't be much longer and if they think it will be a while I will just go on my own, cause I really want to know.

Sweet, I would really look at the dyno in Charlotte. That's my home town. I lived in Charleston, SC for the last 5 years as well. All of you FD guys from Charlotte and the area need to hook up with the SC crew. We are a very very close group and we're always looking to meet more rotorheads. thats really cheap. my firend bought turbo's from cheapturbo.com for his 3000GT VR4 and he said they have great prices and service.
but how much did you have to spend on the setup overall? i mean with the pfc and the fuel system and everything because i heard it takes a good $5-8k to go single. is this true? |
Yea, Here is the rest of the stuff. May have a few small things missing here and there, but here goes nothing. I did the Fuel last May and the ECU and Intercooler the November before that. So I have been preparing for single turbo ever since I got the car pretty much.

After doin a extensive 2 day search for a good, full picture of the engine bay of a FD that had any sort of the XS T04anything turbo upgrade, I am sad to say I have turned up empty handed. I saw the ones that he posted but I am lookin for a kinda full engine bay pic. And i kinda wanted a pic of the XS T04S installed if possible. Can anyone help me?

Well not a whole lot other than there are a few things that HKS has custom spec from Garrett made specifically for them and noone else. But this is not enough to justify the price being 3x more. Also I believe that the back side of the HKS turbo is not a v-band flange but a bolt on one instead. I say save yourself the 2000 dollars from the HKS kit and just go with the kit I pieced together. I'm sure there is more performance with the HKS kit, but not $2000 more. Although it does use their stainless manifold and S/S wastegate compared to my cast iron of each. But you just have to add 400 to the price of my kit and get the same thing.

really nice , that manifold is a great piece to bad about the notch though ,....oh well at least you will never have manifold cracks ,...also you have a microswich an youre throttle-body is that nitrous???
