Slightly different "going single" question

i've been having a coolant leak problem with my stock twins and the thought i keep reverting back to is "damn this setup is ******* complicated i wish it was a little simpler", i've searched this forum and read the FAQ's but it all is related to other, more common questions... basically what i'm wondering is how much "simpler", or easier is it to maintain a moderate single turbo conversion, are there more/less problems?

basically what i'd be looking to do would be the GT35R setup, not high boost at all, <15psi, nothing crazy at all, uses for the car are weekend warrior but mostly track ****... i'm just getting really frustrated with how complicated the stock twins are and i would LOVE to simplify it, but if i'd just be getting into another headache going single turbo then i'd pass on spending all the money... keep in mind i'm not looking for a lot of HP, and nothing crazy, just a modest single setup to keep my head from exploding...

any information is appreciated, and if this has already been covered by all means point me in the right direction, i have nothing against reading the info already posted on the forums i just couldn't find any info that really answered my question... thanks in advance!

Check you're two coolant hoses to both turbos. Those easily burst and need replacing.

It seams simple in theory but getting it done right is a time consuming expensive project.

oh i have it narrowed down to which coolant lines it will be, more than likely the hardlines, but i already have two new rubber lines (never hurts to replace those anyway), its just finding the time to wrench on it now that i'm working so much...

i'm sure the initial task of getting it done wouldn't be the simplest thing, but i'm more concerned about once its all installed on the car how the reliability would be, do people have as many problems with the single setup itself that others have wtih keeping the stock twins, etc etc, stuff like that, i dont mind dropping a few bucks to get a well setup kit at all, so money isn't a terribly large issue, like i said i'm more concerned with once i have the car up and running under a single turbo setup how much of a headache from then on out it would be... from what i read i gathered that getting it all finished in the first place wouldn't be a walk in the park, but if it will yeild less problems in the future i'm willing to suffer now ...

Well, I don't know what kind of mods you have, but going non-seq, is allways an option. While it will never make near the hp that a single setup will (Using factory twins.), it would realy clean up the engine bay alot. CJ

CJ, gave you a good option if you dont want to spend the $$ on a single turbo setup. Non-sew twins is a very good option, #1 being it will clean up alot of the vacuum lines and sensors and nonsense. #2 You'll feel the boost come on very strong once it does hit at around 3400rpms. #3 Make sure you have some type of standalone ecu when going non-sequential. I went the other way with my setup, I damaged 2sets of twins so I just went single to get rid of the headaches the twin turbos give plus I wanted more power...

The more mods you have (Full exhaust, IC, ecu, efini Y pipe, etc.) the faster the car will spool up. Once you ditch the rats nest, it'll be *alot* more easy to work on. CJ

it already had the poor mans non-seq. setup done before i bought the car, mods to date are a full exhaust, downpipe-midpipe-gutted cat-greddy exhaust, apex'i PFC w/ commander, intake kit, and a vented CF hood (not that it matters much)...

i dont mind spending the money on a single setup, my thought process on it is that it will clean up some of the oil/coolant lines, have less things to worry about, and in the event something goes wrong it wont be quite as hard to make my way through the engine bay to find it/fix it (less piping, lines, etc etc etc)... as far as i can tell i'm pretty much ready to go single with the moderate power i'd be looking to make (300-350 is more than enough for my foot at this point), with the standalone and other supporting mods, so if i went to rx7store and bought a full kit from them it doesn't seem to me i'd be in for TO much of a headache aside from getting it proffessionally tuned, but even then i could probably just buy a map for the mods i have, especially considering i dont need anything crazy...

i guess basically the question i'm looking to get answered is how reliable are the GT35R kits? i've almost convinced myself that going single is the way i want to go, the only thing really holding me back is whether or not i'd be running into problems just as frequently, even then so long as its the same frequency and not more i'd still end up doing it for the ease of replacing parts...

thanks for the replys, they are being helpful in the quest to figure out WTF i am going to do with my car...
