Propane Injection
 

I saw this over in Rotary Performance, however the thread has a bad name and I dont think its getting the attention it deserves. Also I feel this is something that could really benifit the single turbo users.

I love the idea! Cooler intake temps, lower EGT, higher octane, more boost, and its cheap :D

Im pretty much sold. Im going to call Dynamic Racing and get some info, Hell I might even order it.
So let me hear some opinions.

I heard about this idea awhile ago from a supra friend of mine. Simple theory.

Basically: I plan to watch people spend $525.00 on this, learn from there problems, and learn what kind of flows are optimal. Do some more research on propane itself. Then design my own "kit", tailored to my specific goals, that will cost about 1/4th of that.

Bravo on the marketing, I bet you guys will make a fortune :)

It would seem that the actual fuel/octane benefits of running a secondary propane injection system would be minimal. Cooling the intake charge would seem to be the largest contributer to more horsepower. Like WackyRotary said, propane stores 70% of the power per volume as gasoline. If you run 100% propane, you will have less power and less range then using gasoline, at least on an NA engine. However, if you run a turbo engine on 100% propane you can run a lot more boost due to the much higher octane rating (110). I really don't think that injecting 1 part propane 10 or so gasoline is going to raise the octane much, lets see, (110/10 + 93) / 2 = 98.5 which is certainly better than 93 but not as good as say C16 race gas. I researched converting my FD project to propane, but at the time propane fuel injection systems were not easy for me to find on the net. I seem to remember something about having to be carefull that the point at which the propane turned from a liquid to a gas did not freeze. Not sure what bearing this would have on a secondary propane injection system, just throwing in stuff I researched abot a year ago.

ive only seen it on a diesel truck..made a decent amount more power.. untill i read this i thought it was just "nos" for diesels...

Oh, and good luck making a kit that costs 1/4 of this kit.. the bottle/gauge alone is more then 1/4th the cost..

Obviously I won't be using your magic bottle and guage, and I promise I can find both for well under 1/4 of the cost. I'm not trying to steal your thunder, I'm just saying how I prefer to do things. I'm sure you'll sell TONS of these. In theory propane injection would be a godsend for rotary owners, but I'd like to see more in action before I piece together my own "ghetto fabulous" kit ;)

good luck in getting your ghetto bottle filled. There are safty regs for propane bottles.
I tell you why do people have to be tight wad trolls, and rip off other peoples idea.
DR's kit is good quality, and Im sure there not taking a large profit margine like other tuners would.

I mean like a damn BBQ Grill tank shoved in the back, sitting right next to a nice big bottle of N2O.
Go check over at viper club of america. I've seen more than one I think, but I don't remember, it's been a while.

Alot of high end cars (C5's, Vipers, LS1 Fbodies) have been using NOS+Propane for quite a few years now without any issue.

The DR kit is the first one to be setup for just "boosted" applications.. (ie, no NOS) -- altho, you could easily add NOS into the mix.

So, can I use propane with my methanol/water injection kit??

well with propane injection you wouldn't need water meth injection. propane does the same thing meth water injectioin does just it's alot better.

Damn propane boost. wish my 87 was still running there would be the time at the track I wanted to get out of it.

You can use propane and alcohol/water injection at the same time without any issues.

But, they both do the same thing (essentially). Just, IMHO, Propane is superior in all regards.

So, who is using propane on an FD???

Hey Ekool a few questions.... Does the BBQ tank run all the time on the street or is it like using NOS for short bursts? Also how often do you fill the tank up?

Well the whole point in a boosted application is the same as any other injection system (to come on when needed) So you set a predefined amount of boost, it comes on and goes off when it's not needed.

I am interested in this too.. Someone want to try this out and report back?? :)

My kit has been ordered. At the time I was told the tanks are on about a 2 week back order. So I hope to see mine in a couple weeks.
