Pineapple racing oil pan
 

Hi all , If any of you intend to use one of these pans in your build like I did , make sure and check it for leaks BEFORE installation ! I found out the hard way that their casting process is flawed ! I have identified two leaks ! once the sump is filled up oil streams from under the car even if the motor isnt running or if its just parked (for days sometimes) . Now I have to drop the cross member to pull it for repairs.

Is Rob making the Xcessive oil pans now? :scratch:

I have one, albeit an older one, and it works perfect. Did you put silicone on the bolts?

Same, mine works perfect, but I also went to the a heavy duty viton oil seal.

Yes we had one that had a leak too, you could try and weld it on the car.

Probably just like their LIM. Terribly casted part and takes a bit of work to make it a good product...

Yes I used silicone and the o ring , but the oil is actually seeping through the wall at the two points . It cannot be fixed on the car it has to be removed . It would be a great product though if the QC was better.

I'm pretty sure both the LIM, and oil pans are Xcessive engineering parts, not actually Robs.

The FD pans look to be the Xessive, the FC pans however look to be Rob's, as they have Pineapples logo cast into them.

For what its worth, this isn't the first time I've seen someone complain about bad casting causing leaks, I hope mine won't leak when I actually get around to getting this damned car running some day.

We had a customer's pan leak from the back middle portion of the pan wall. Not sure where it was sourced from, Pineapple/Groundzero/Xcessive. Seemed to be a porous casting...... this was back in 2006. Personally the lack of an oil level sending unit makes the unit undesirable to me for a street car. My FD is modded pretty damn heavily and still rockin' the oem oil pan. No leaks either ;)

The problem I had with the stock oil pan is its ability to cause low oil pressure when the floor of the pan makes contact with the oil pumps pick up , because the clearance is soo small.

You probably won't think that this is funny, but here goes.....

Are there midgets under your FD pressing on the bottom of the pan :D?

On a serious note, you could always pick up a new oem oil pan if yours is damaged. They're not very much, relatively speaking anyway.

Either way I will have to drop the front cross member to remove the oil pan , I'll just have the leaks repaired (welded) and replace the pan.

I'm a little curious how you plan on repairing it if it's a problem with the casting and not a crack.

Not a fan a cast oil pans. They crack very very easily when they get hit.

It's not a crack , it looks like it was a bubble .Seems like when the aluminum was poured there were bubbles in there that remained there until the aluminum cooled and herdened in the mold.This would then leave a spece for the oil to pass through. The repair for this is to gouge out the space and have it refilled with TIG aluminum welding. If it were a crack the repair procedure would be the same.

True , and my car is lowered , but I plan to do the "angle iron" mod .

I've been using this pan for about 35k miles here in NYC and I've never had any leaks or problems with this pan or the LIM that they sell, just my 2 cents.

I think your problem is something else.

I also ran this oil pan all last season without issue. Personally I'm very pleased with my purchase and would use this product again.

Had another oil leak , this time it's one of my MOCAL 25 row oil coolers ! there really is no substitute for the OEM stuff when it comes to reliability!

True about the vacuum hoses but in Mazda's defense, I guess they never factored the engine running so hot and prematurely deteriorating the hoses so fast. I know Mazda had some service bulletins and completley replaced vacuum hoses in several vehicles under warranty. Mine was one of them. I never had vacuum problems when I bought mine. But anyways, since were talking oil system, the OEM oil system is nearly bullet proof.

That was me and boy was it a bitch to get it replaced. However, the other rich (the one at Xcessive) gave me a replacement, as per their warranty:

I had my pineapple pan installed four years ago and tried several different options to create a better seal after discovering a crack straight from factory, eventually I ended up just going back to stock
