to oil restrict or not to oil restrict. few other questions
 

1) I did some searching but still not to sure if I'm going to need an oil restrictor on my turbo or not. I've got a masterpower t61 with -4an feed line and -12an return. I'm going to be running castrol 20w-50 and am ordering an 80psi oil pressure regulator. Any input would be great. I saw a few good threads but mostly nothing was accomplised but people getting more confused. Only thing I found that was related to me was this.

2) second question is how important is an oil pan baffle? Is it worth the 50 bux or am I just throwing money away?

3) Is an 80psi oil pressure regulator prefered for around 450-500hp?

anyone? Would it be advised to use the restrictor first just so that the oil pressure won't have a chance to blow the oil seal?

Garrett recommends a restrictor on their BB turbos if the oil pressure is over 60 psi, most of the Turbonetics units come with built in restrictors. I do not know if the Masterpower has a restrictor or not. Turbos do not need a lok of oil pressure to keep lubricated, however too much will cause damage.

thanks for the input. I'm leaning towards just going ahead and putting it in that way there is no way that it can be damaged.

I heard its ok to run without a restrictor on a -3 an line. With the larger line i would suggest running one. I think the BB units use a larger restrictor (less flow).

I'm confused as to what you are talking about with the oil pan baffle. There should be an oil pan baffle in the pan. Mazda updated the pan baffle in the later years due to oil slosh moving up the filler pipes during hard turns.

well I've got an 88 so they didn't have any baffle in the pan so I was wondering if I should go ahead and get it or is it just a waste of money.

Sorry I thought you were talking about an FD. If you are planning on doing any type of road racing or hard turning I would invest in the baffle. It prevents oil starvation in in those kinds of enviroments.

we've dealt with a few master power T70's that are still working perfectly after much abuse that did not need an oil restrictor. i wouldn't worry about it.

oh and one of the engines has the fd oil pressure regulator setup. still a-ok ;)

hum interesting. guess I'll buy one just incase and if I see any sign of smoking I'll install it right away.

By the time you see any smoking it may be too late, no?

I run this restrictor on my T04b and have had no problems....no smoke and IC piping is nice and dry.

sorry for hijacking, but do someone know how much a nonballbearing gt40 turbo need restricting or no restricting?
