My Turbo Manifold is Finished!!!!

My turbo manifold is finished and all welded, including both Tial 35mm wastegates. I'm not sure I will be selling this one. I don't think I want to try to recreate this as a production part. I always seem to go overboard when making stuff for my car. The manifolds I will be selling will most likely be a bit simpler than this. Although they will still retain the crossing runners and the dual wastegates.

Anyway, here's a picture of the finished product with the turbo and wastegates bolted up. If any of you have ever seen a manifold more elaborate than this I would love to see pictures. I'm nicknaming it "Medusa".

Medusa haha... good choice for a nickname!
Looks really good. Is this your first try making a manifold? If so... wow!

Bad2ndgen 01-27-03 01:44 AM

Here's Another Picture

Maybe I should call it spaghetti???

Bridgeported 01-27-03 01:51 AM

Wow! that really shows the piping maze! Do you have an estimate on how close that will be for frame/strut tower clearance?
Which turbo are you using?

Bad2ndgen 01-27-03 02:13 AM

more

The turbo is a 62-1 1.15a/r divided p-trim. The forward WG plumbing has about 3/4" of clearance from the strut tower/framerail and I can get it on the car with no trouble. I will post some pics of it on the car tomorrow.

Very nice :bigthumb:

Will the WGs be plumbed into the DP?

Jimmy325i 01-27-03 02:37 AM

Very tight!

Sinful7 01-27-03 02:38 AM

nice fab work

that piece looks like it belongs in a 7 sec. chassis car!!! its beautiful!! im curious on turbo size too, but i see you left the red panties on....for imagination or top secret???

Bad2ndgen 01-27-03 03:35 AM

I posted turbo size earlier, I wish it was top secret! Anybody want to give me a bigger one? Or maybe a cosmo or fd motor? How about a full sponsorship?...Yeah I wish it was top secret....but its not.

680RWHP12A 01-27-03 04:01 AM

i dont believie it!!! 62-1???? with a 1.15 and a P trim???!!!why? thats a shame!!such a nice piece and it will never see its potential! with a 60 mm wheel you only need one w/g!!!! i have a big bridgeport 13b ready, a big 80mm turbo but no manifold, sponser me!!!

adamlewis 01-27-03 04:02 AM

Nice work on the manifold.

However, I wouldnt purchase it.

RX-Heven 01-27-03 12:11 PM

Nice work, but how do you plan on plumbing the rest for the wastegates? You will vent those into the dp/exhaust some how won't you. Looks to me like the rear is to close to the dp already to fit any more piping.
Maybe I will use three wg's on my 3 rotor, lol.

After riding in and witnessing a car with an open vented wastegate I would never suggest doing it any other way, it sounds like the world is comming to an end when it opens up. We have scared numerous bums, couples, dudes on rollerblades, and unsuspecting people in bus shelters. The guy on rollerblades actually dove onto the grass.

Sounds practical AND beneficial

lol....Yeah, open wastegates are scary as hell. Nice work on the manifold, it's definitely innovative.

Pics on the car!

There is room for plumbing the wastegate exhaust's, not alot but there is room.

6.5millionRWHP12a; I wish I did have a larger turbo, but what I can't afford I try to make up for with skills.

Bad2ndgen 01-27-03 07:52 PM

Just the mani.

Here is a pic that kinda shows the clearance between framerail and mani.

enzo250 01-27-03 10:49 PM

Looks Good...

Finally someone plumbed the wastegate(s) in direct flow of the exhaust. You shouldn't have any problems controlling boost with that setup.

What type of tubing and what size is that?

Bad2ndgen 01-28-03 12:22 AM

The main runners are 1.5" sch. 10, the WG runners are 1.25" sch. 10. It is all 304L S.S.

enzo250 01-28-03 07:51 AM

Oh ok... So your using pipe not tubing. You should think about having it extrode honed. The inside of it is porous right? Otherwise it looks like a nice manifold. Good primary length too...

silvr94r2 01-28-03 04:54 PM

I am very impressed! I likes alot:D You do very clean work......did you do all the work yourself? You obviously work at a metal fabricating shop right? If not then you have one hell of a garage:cool: Seriously.......do you do this for a living? If not, then you should.

H_PersÆng 01-28-03 05:10 PM

GOOD GOD MAN! you really put some work into that thing didnt you. It looks seriously wicked!

I sometimes fanatsise about being a great mechanic and building something like this one day (do pay attention to the fanatasise part!)

Bad2ndgen 01-29-03 12:14 AM

i don't think I need to extrude hone it, I tumbled all the parts in our huge tumblers. It makes them smooth inside and out. And the welds were gas purged, wich makes the welds lay down smooth on the inside.

IgoSlow 01-29-03 08:35 AM

damn thats just beautiful.. what classes do i have to take to do that..
