My oil catch can install

Hey guys,

I'm finally going to install my catch can and I'm just looking for some validation as to my method.

I have a sealed Greddy catch can. I plan to connect 1 end hose to the 2 nipples on the oil filler neck and the back of the iron, and the other hose I was planning on teeing it into the vac line that goes from my UIM to the break booster in order to keep it under vac.

Do you guys think that this would cause any problems? I'm really just wondering if there is any chance of the UIM forcing reverse pressure under boost and pressurizing the oil pan instead of venting it. Everyone seems to be using the TID as their vac source but I'd like to avoid that if possible to try and keep the turbo and IC piping clean.

Any thoughts?

Yes, you'll need to have a check valve between the can and UIM port. That's why the stock setup has a PCV valve.

Isn't that what the can's supposed to do?

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but whats the TID?

So I guess it would be better to use the intake as the vac source since it will always be in vac even under boost. I guess I'll have to fab something up.

Thanks guys.

Trust me read this whole thread...

Thanks for the link. There is a lot of reading there, but I think I get the general idea. What they are talking about for the most part is the catch ca nfilling up during hard cornering. I'm just trying to resolve high oil pressure during normal driving.

I'm going to try running a PCV valve between the nipple on the back of the iron and the UIM, but that will only help during idle and when I'm not driving under boost. I still need some kind of vac source to vent the pressure under boost, which is why I think hooking the catch can between the nipple on the oil filler neck and my TID would make a big difference under boost. I'll also be trying out a restrictor in the oil feed line to see if it helps in conjuction with the catch can under vac. I'm not too concerned about oil sloshing up the neck because my cars is going to be strictly for drag and some day to day driving.
