Jay-Tech Pro-Jay intake manifolds

Who here likes Jay-Tech manifolds? Are they good? Worth the money?

Looks like I'll need one if I put a Holley on an FD engine. Maybe eventually a throttle body. But for now a boost prepped Holley.

Talk to me.

Some of the fastest rotaries in the world are using them with great success so I'd say yes.

Jeff20B 12-18-12 10:28 PM

Awesome, thanks! Anyone else?

silverfdturbo6port 12-18-12 10:54 PM

They are as good as it gets for optimal flow and their products are great quality

Jeff20B 12-18-12 11:38 PM

Thanks man! Sounds like a solid piece of equipment.

I've got a question about their carb (plenum) hats. Like this one:
http://www.pro-jay.com/images/126827...204368297.jpeg
This is the one that fits a carb, it looks like. Just curious how much hood clearance I'll have. Anyone ever used these in a 1st gen?

Jeff20B 12-19-12 12:16 AM

This is the other carb hat I was looking at. Spectre
Air Intake Plenum-Single 4" Inlet-Polished Cast Aluminum - Plenums - Air Intake Components - Catalog

Similar price, but not similar quality. Thoughts?

wickedrx2 12-19-12 12:43 AM

The best carb hats are from csu or extreme velocity. (Ev)
Im running the csu on my blowthru

I have one, and havent had any issues with it. There are also other options out there, like the extreme rotaries that Roan distributes in the US. I would love to get one from Roan, soooooo How soon are you looking into buying a jay tech manifold? lol

864angel112 12-19-12 08:27 AM

They have a good product, its worth the money in my opinion.

Jeff20B 12-19-12 12:16 PM

Thanks KNONFS. I sent you a PM but I like what I see from xtreme rotaries. Decisions decisions...

Thanks angel. Any other opinions? I know literally nothing about 4 bbl manifolds for FD engines. This thread has been a great education.

Sorry, wasnt aware that you didnt know other options, here's another one:

Oh cool thanks! Wow that's like half price. But is it half the quality?

Nah. Had one on my S5 engine. They basically copied the original jay tech manifold. The main difference is that the JW is wider, meaning there will be less available space between the intake manidolf and the strut tower. For a turbo application, this could be CRITICAL (ask me how I know) :(

The carb/tb flange on the JW is THICK, at least 1/8 thicker than the one on the jay tech.

Im sure the quality is fine especially being that summit is carrying it.
It will work no different than any other.

Jeff20B 12-20-12 02:19 PM

Thanks KNONFS and silverfdturbo6port! I actually kinda like the thought of the flange being thicker. I also believe the wider shape will be ok in an FB with an aftermarket turbo. Plus, the fact that it appears shorter than the really super tall looking jaytech is ideal as I don't know how much hood clearance I'll need. Finally, I'll be using a carb, so the somewhat different runner lengths of the JW should work out ok. I also probably don't require the center long bolt of the extreme rotaries manifold as I'm not looking to boost so much that I need water injection or e85 or whatever. Just a simple blow through that makes enough power for me, not dyno queens.

I'll start out with my RB Holley 600 for break in purposes along with a long primary exhaust. Then when I get tired of the power of an NA, I'll go blow through with the boost prepped Holley. Just gotta get an FD 4150 intake manifold first.

Any other intake manifolds I should know about? Keep them coming guys!

Jeff20B 12-20-12 03:14 PM

I have just one question about the JW manifold. Does it have fully separate runners?

just startn 12-21-12 12:36 AM

I had a questions at one point about the JW intake. I HIGHLY suggest you talk to someone that uses it or has delt with a handful of them. RacingBeat is another option. PM'

C. Ludwig 12-21-12 05:24 AM

The JW and Pro Jay manifolds don't have the center bolt hole. The RX Parts manifold does. I've never used any of them but know from threads in the past that guys have discussed the need or lack thereof of the center bolt. Also, one of them, want to say the JW, was said to need a lot of port matching. If you do a search you'll find the threads I'm sure.

They all have separate runners.

There are no other manifolds that I am aware of, so those are your options. C.Ludwig posted a picture of E&J drag car, and they have a tubular style manifold. I had heard rumors couple of years ago, where E&J were going to make their own manifold, but never heard anything else.

I had the JW on the S5T engine along with a 750cfm TB, and there was no need for port matching. I cant comment on the jay tech and its TB, since I got the manifold already ported (bought it used).

Have to JW intake on my REW 1st gen. Well worth the money to me. About having to port match the manifold to the runner, motor is ported so i had to port match the manifold. I thought this was a for sure thing to do with any manifold and ported motor.
About the missing middle bolt, Dont have a issue with it up to 35/38psi on a S480. The manifold is so think I can't see it flexing under boost. I use only one layer of the metal gasket with some RTV ultra and when the manifold is removed, there is no signs of leakage.
If space is limited don't get this one. It does stick out allot further then the stock REW manifold. But for me at half the price it was a no brainer.

Yup, that's the one. That thing is solid, I use one as well.

Jeff20B 12-27-12 10:47 PM

Thanks for all the onfo about the JW. I went ahead and ordered one from Summit. :D

My motor isn't ported yet. Will I need to port match the manifold if I leave the runners in the irons stock?

sleeper7, I ordered a new metal gasket. Do I need to take it apart to use only one layer like you? Or can I use it as is?

ArmyOfOne, did you use S4 NA rotors?

sleeper7 12-28-12 06:30 PM

I got mine from Summit also. JW wanted 40$ more then Summit.
About the gasket, I used one layer because it was a old gasket and felt the one layer would do a better job. If new I would have tried it as is. I hate how the metal layered gasket flattens out after use.

Jeff20B 12-29-12 12:35 AM

Glad summit can get us a discount. :)
