HX35W + OBX manifold Fitment or HKS cast? On a RHD FD, Need help!

Hey guys,

So ive decided to use an HX35 turbo for my RHD FD, currently trying to find any T4 housing for it so that it can be matted up to a standard T4 manifold... Should be a housing around 1.00AR. Currently the housing is a 12cm^2 (~0.89 A/R).

What manifold do you guys reckon will work with the HX35? I dont mind modifying the manifold slightly in terms of the wastegate placement and/or the use of spacer, however I NO NOT want to have to totally rebuild it, because at that point I may as well get a custom manifold made.

I have carefully read all OBX manifold related threads, the newer ones seem to work ALRIGHT. Obviously I would much rather buy an A-spec manifold, but unfortunately the budget does not allow for a 1200$ manifold... The HKS cast would either work or not, obviously it can only be modified with spacers and such.

I just really want some good opinions on the fitment of this combo before i go ahead and buy the manifold.

Here is a comparison between the HX35 and a blown T04E I had laying around. Obviously I would take off the wastegate diaphragm and grind the housing flat.

HX35: 4" inlet, 2.5" compressor out, T3 12cm turbine (0.89 AR) housing internally wastegated with 3" out. 56mm/76mm 54 trim ( http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/vb...&articleid=122 )

T04E: 3" inlet, 1.75" out?, .70 AR compressor housing and .70 T4 turbine housing.

Here is a picture of a 60-1 compressor with a .84 hotside sitting on an OBX.

The OBX manifold sits pretty far forward, so i hope the HX35 compressor housing will clear the LIM.

Thanks a lot for any help guys,

And, how is the fitment and with what turbo? Could you take some pictures perhaps, front, side shot and perhaps from underneath. This would be MUCH appreciated as the only picture i have is the one provided in my original post.

Thanks in advance.

Bump?

Well if no one has any information on this fitment issue, then the next question is what size of housing will I need to get ~400rwhp?

I picked up an externally wastegated 18.5cm holset housing today, I am going to get a 21cm.. Unfortunately it does not look like I will be able to get any HX35 housing in a T4... So I will have to run some sort of an adapter to properly mate the turbo to the manifold.

The engine will be dynamically balanced with a large street port from Forcefed racing, we will run the Rx7 store ultimate fuel system along with a 255lpm walbro pump with a microtech lt10 hopefully, 4" custom SS exhaust along with 3" intercooler piping to a large v mounted core.

So T3 18.5cm or T3 21cm to achieve ~400rwhp?

You will probably want to go with 2.5" intercooler piping, you will get better response. Although on a v mount it wont matter as much because of the shorter distance. And also probly need to run two walbros.

why dont you use a HX40 hot side with a T4 flange? Most of the industrial HX40 had T4 flanges, as does the turbo i have, it is also a divided 17cm^2.

Ya, the piping will be very short, my twin set up had great response even with 3" IC piping.

I am unsure of what fuel pump setup I will need, currently doing research before I purchase a pump(s).

I have being unable to find the turbine diameter of the hx40, but I am pretty sure the HX35 and HX40 used different turbine diameter. I maybe wrong, I hope I am. It would be ideal to run a T4 housing.

The H1E was the predecessor to the HX40 was it not? Do you know if the HX40 housing will work??

Thanks guys.

i measured mine a while back. its a brand new HX40..
mine is 76mm x 64mm
Hope that helps.
Rob

BTW i heard that most parts interchange from the HX40 to the HX35...

From what i gather the HX35 and HX40 center core internals are identical, the exhaust and compressor wheel ARE different. Some holsets are have bolted housings and some are V band too.

HX35 - Turbine 69.5mm inducer/60mm exducer
Compressor 56mm inducer/76exducer

HX40 - Turbine (according to you) 76mm inducer and 64exducer
Compressor ?? I know for a fact it is larger than the HX35

So unfortunately I will have to run a t3/t4 adapter... darn it. There are some decent spacers with proper taper. I just hope that a 1/2 spacer does not cause fitment issues..

I will make sure to post up pictures of my setup after its done, that way all forum members will not have be pulling their hair put with future holset setups.

Thanks.

Ahh ok. Sorry if i got your hopes up.. guess you could always just look for a HX40.. lol
