Garret's new GTX-R billet turbos

I've found a bit of info on this new Garrett lineup, if anyone else has anything, post it up.

All in all very promising stuff!

god damn 108 mm is a big bastard haha. i second that, any news on the release date?? cuz i sure as hell havent seen these for sale yet

Trots*88TII-AE* 11-16-09 10:16 PM

Not sure. ATPTurbo has them advertised on their front page, which is where I caught it, but last week at SEMA. I'd say they won't be too long now.

Oh, and they apparently are releasing quite a few different models in re-designed Billet trim. Only thing that gets me wondering, is the new Garrett GTX 4294R, using a 94mm, 70mm inducer turbo is still putting out just shy of 100 lbs/min, and the PTE T3 6765 (84mm, 67mm inducer) turbo put down 920 AWHP on an evo, so I'd say it's putting out pretty near the same flow, but in a smaller package. I wish Precision would put out some damn compressor maps on their new shit, then we'd know for sure.

Nice, Garret finally joining the billet game. Wonder when they coming out with something a little smaller for us track road coarse guys :).

I don't know about you, but a GTX3574R sounds like a winner (to me anyway).

Where was that listed? I only saw 42R's or higher in the to be released turbo's.

I was waiting to see how long before one of you guys posted this info :) The turbo's have a release date of december according to Garrett, but I will believe it when I see it. I know how they are and usually that means february. Then again who knows, they may have a few available by december as they are suggesting.

How do you think the Precision line will stack up against them in terms of gain over cast Sean? I mean, on the 67mm billet wheel, AWDMotorsports made 920 awhp, that's gotta be in the 90-95 lbs/min range, no?

I dont think theyre quite that high. They are probably in the 85lb/min area. They just make insane power because you can push the boost so high, which means higher efficiency.

I heard that Garrett will be releasing the 42R and 45R first, then others will come out shortly after. I sure do hope so! These are very promising, and will be good for people who want the reliability of Garrett but the performance of PTE billets.

I really wonder how the 11 full height blades will compare to the staggered style like PTE and FP have.

Zero R 11-17-09 11:11 AM

I think they will stack up just fine. They certainly have access to a larger budget if need be. I have a feeling you'll be seeing better gains on the smaller wheels than the larger ones, just a gut feeling. I think the one to be impressed with most currently is the 4294, the map is both taller and wider in some spots than the cast 4202.

I agree, that 4294 is pretty impressive. Even better would be in the 40R size, and you have yet another great street/strip turbo, with big power potential.

I agree about the smaller wheels, it makes sense. On larger wheels, you have less percentage of blade length to be gained by reducing the size of the shank compared to smaller turbos. There's an easy 15% more blade length to be gained on a 67mm cast wheel going to billet, but on a 108mm wheel, I'm sure it's proportionately less.

What's wrong with a Billet 6765 DBB* !? You'll see T04Z (or better) spool charateristics with HUGE power potential up top... especially with a nice/big streetport...:icon_tup: ;)

I agree with both of you (Zero R & Trots*88TII-AE).

Billet is more beneficial to smaller and mid framed turbo's for a couple reasons.

One the aforementioned shaft area to over all size ratio.

Another being the blade thickness to over all size too.

The last being the larger you go, the higher the tip speed/mach numbers on the outer fins per given shaft speed. It's a law of physics that cannot be gotten around. Some of it can be fixed with back sweep, but it has diminishing returns.

I was also told around Dec..

BTW the gains on the 4508 are pretty impressive as well...

I'm just speculating that the GT35 will be included in the GTX line down the road.

There is a lot more than 1, I think about 10 in the box.. Probably all be gone soon. Friends in the right places I guess? ;)

ScorpionT 11-23-09 08:38 PM

Well, now I need to send a PM to get some info.

Turblown 11-24-09 11:17 AM

So I hear other people are using our photograph and claiming they have them in stock.....

Fucking deadbeats. Really can't wait to see these perform on a rotary though.

Yeah cause that doesn't happen all over the place, hell Jason stole all kinds of stuff off my site back in the day, people get their hands on my housings and copy them, my turbo's and copy them, it's the worst part about this business. Forget pics everyone uses them, watermark it or forget it. ;)

shit dude, you're lucky not to have to deal with winter. Everything is going on stand-by for me and the PTE 6768 will have to wait till spring. :(

You're telling me. Sigh......

Islander 11-27-09 09:31 PM

Man i'm so interested........ But i can't justify spending $2400.. Damn, just plain damn.

Also i wanna be a band wagon jumper. I don't like being a guinney pig. Show me some numbers on a rotary and convince me. lol.

Can i make payments?

So will it be possible to order billet compressor and turbine wheels to put in older turbos (like a t-60 ^^)? Would you see similarly good gains from doing that?

Erdin 11-28-09 09:35 AM

Yes this is what i was thinking?

You cant buy the components like that from Garrett. There are a couple exceptions, but it wont be the billet stuff. Just buy a new complete turbo when the smaller ones come out.

thewird 11-28-09 11:22 AM

Are the turbine wheels also billet?

GTX4294R on the left, GTX4202 on the right... I think this is going to be the biggest street turbo anyone would ever run on a 13B...

thewird 11-30-09 12:24 PM

I wouldn't really call the 42R a street turbo for the 13b unless you get a bar before 4,000 RPM :P. But I guess that would be up to opinion rofl.

But hey, maybe the billet is that much better? Do let us know :)

By tweaked setup do you mean retard the timing and dump fuel to spool the turbo? :)

No. Just a well built setup

West-se 11-30-09 04:53 PM

doweled 13b-re brand new irons, clearanced low comp rotors, 2mm seals, small 1/2 bridge. I'd say I hit full boost ~4300 - 4500, it starts making boost at 2100 I get 5 - 7 psi by 3000. I can't give more accurate numbers as its been in the garage for the past month and will be til spring time :(

Edit: Until I get some better wider tires on the back I have to say this setup is pretty much insane on the street, there is no traction on the 245's. Perhaps with some R compound tires it would be ok for lapping but when this thing spools it's a handful.

Large bore downpipe, ceramic coatings, wastegate dump (or well-designed re-route), dual solenoid boost controller, high quality wastegate, well designed exhaust manifold, proper turbine wheel and A/R sizing, etc etc :)
