flywheel

Which flywheel is better gor a street and strip car running a huge single turbo,as you all know diff year cars have different weight flywheels.So what do i use on my 3rd gen motor. 86-88,89-92 or 93-95.By the way the motor is a 3rd gen motor.

You cannot simply mix and match flywheels from various years! The stock flywheels have the rear counterweight built on to them and are balanced to the rotors and front counterweight that they were designed for.
If it's a 3rd gen motor then the stock flywheel is what's needed for your application. The stock FD's flywheel have the best weight for a street/ strip car!

USA Rx-7's with 13B's-->
Factory balance groups- 84-85
86-88
89-95
Same for Turbo or NA.

Crispeed's right.. You can't use a flywheel from an older motor or a different motor. And I believe stock is best for street/drag racing because you retain your torque..

anyone know how much time off the ET will be lost with a lighter flywheel?? im assuming your ET will go down, but your trap speed will be higher since you go through the gears quicker, correct??

This is a real balancing act, and I doubt there is no single answer for all situations.

I used to think that a HEAVY flywheel is needed to get the car off the line.&nbsp This is the rule for NA motors...

With a lighter flywheel, this loads up the turbo more - turbo runs on engine load - so you'll get more/faster boost from the turbo.

Now, it's all about balancing both sides for your application...

You won't necessarily loose time, but you will loose momentum. With the stock flywheel, its easier to keep the boost up between shifts. With a lightweight one, it revs down very fast, loosing boost. (good for road racing, but not drag...)

Don't use a light flywheel if you plan on drag racing. Your car will look like a leap frog going down the track........
