Aaron I picked up one from Ebay (haven't used yet still building)....its 4" thick and the welds and everything else looks good. No visual flaws that I can see. |
I Was Running One For A While It Was Ok, Now I Am Going With A Larger Turbine And New Fuel Rails So I Needed To Go Biger Intercooler Too. But I Liked It While I Had It.

I have been running one for awhile now( 12x32x4), and even when I went single is was fine. With the intake temp relocated to the outlet of the intercooler my temps read anywhere from 23 on a 60deg night to 28 on a nasty 90+ day. Never has got heat soaked and temp stays the same even under heavy driving.

Alright cool. thks for all the replys...i just wasnt sure, i dont wanna have to go cheap on this part, but i put most of the money into the turbo/injectors/FD fuel pump/SAFC..etc
Anyone have a ideal size Core for an FC? 27x5 1/2x2.5 ? sound good? let me kno thks again Aaron |

P.s. im not using it, my friends using it on his sr20 |
Fin density is awful, flow I'm sure is good but heat rejection my guess would be awful when compared to a actual quality core with proper fin placement and such. But hey you get what you pay for.

a) don't use the bov's. My budy has a ka(t) 240sx and went with a few ebay items and ebay bov's are complete shit! b) don't get the ebay rrfpr's they are shit as well c) the 12x24x3 ssautochrome intercoolers aren't that bad. I don't have any data to back it up as I'm still installing my single turbo setup and so forth but I've bought all the quality parts earls fittings all stainless steel lines etc... but a few places I descided that you are paying for mainly name only. And the greddy intercooler kit is one. Here is a pic of the fmic I'm talking about and how it fits to the fc. Not sure about the fd. you notice that it uses stock bolts and mounting holes.

I've seen a 24X12X4 Intercooler up close as I bought one for my project. It was slightly too big for what I was looking for and sold it thortly after. It ran about $300 shipped.
Bar And Plate design and IMO a very good quality IC! |
Speaking on behalf of the 24x12x4" core, high pressure drop but cooling is outstanding.

Compared to?

Greddy 3-row & spearco

So what are your guys' input on the
-godspeed intercoolers -xs power intercoolers and whatever is out there, I know the key is to find a high cfm and good construction (welds) I personally use the greddy smic but those ebay kits always tempt me lol I agree not to use any "replica" pieces that have mechanical parts on it, like bov, turbos, wastegates, but it's ok to use the intercooeler pipings |

I recently purchased one of these (same one, but I got the 2.5" inlet/oulet model):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=190016964038 I am very happy with the construction and welds. It'll be at least a month before I will get a chance to run it. |

Any numbers? Just curious. I got tons of people in this thread saying it certainly looks good and purty. And they do look good if you don't know what to look for. Hey, a plastic apple sure looks the same as a real one too, but I'm pretty sure one will taste better than the other. I say it is a mediocre piece from what I've seen it has poor fin density which relates to poor heat transfer due to less surface area. Like I said it will flow nice because of the low density but I doubt it would hold up against a quality core on thermal efficiency. Basically if your going to run low boost on a big turbo this IC will work great because it wont need to work hard. But run it on smaller turbo's with high boost and I bet it's a good bumper and that's it. On a platform that is already way more prone to detonation it would be prudent to run the most efficient setup possible. I bet if you cut one open you will see no real fins inside, just channels of folded thin material. Truth be told none of it matters, you could tell everyone it sucks and they will still buy it just because it's cheap. -S- |
:iwstupid:
BTW Sean, I noticed on your website that you now offer custom intercoolers...Just curious to know what cores you use? -Alex |
what intercooler is that? looks like an apexi gt ripoff. |
ssac 24x12x3. welds look great and fitment was the shit!

Higher flow means less heat rejected and the car will respond more like a N/a car. Higher heat rejection will mean less flow and will tend to feel more laggy. There are some excpetions but for almost all apps. that is the way it is. Garrett, spearco,Bell are all good cores but each one when put side by side is slightly different in what it will do. The tube and fin cores are harder to choose as most are just junk and it is very important to check the charge air flow on those. -S- |

I don't have any intake temps, but my exhaust temps went way down after I got an ebay 27x9x3 core. I made own brackets and bought one of those universal aluminum pipe kits and cut to fit. Exhaust temps went from ~760 cruising on highway to under 600. About the same for WOT.
