The Dreaded single turbo manifold
Is there anyone out there making a quality manifold for under 6 bills? I have read alot about the Chinese and Ebay crap, the OBX manifold doesn't even have a proper wastegate flange (it's 46mmx66mm on a 1.75" ID collector) and the turbo hits the LIM. The Megan looks better as it doesn't have as many seams. The 4 bill manifold at the RX7 Store looks like a Megan.
I'm just looking for a compromise. |
the rx7store looks like the meagan but is far better quality. i have both and think that if you're not in the position to get a high quality custom manifold this is gonna be the answer. the megan is garbage, i actually have 2 of them and both are junk. the one jason sent me that he now carries has much nicer flanges, welds, and is a little heavier tubing. if it falls in your budget i wouldn't hesitate to get it. just call him up, he's a real stand up guy.

i believe jason at rx7store has stated in a thread already he gets his off one of these type of vendors but gets refinments done if issues are found which is why his prices are a bit cheaper.

i made a log style manifold for my car. i used steel because flanges and bends are cheaper, it doesn't require post weld normalizing unlike stainless steel. most stainless steel manifolds don't undergo normalizing because it costs more money. this is why they crack around the welds since welding causes the metal to form hard brittle grains. this is not good for creep resistance. you want coarse grains. you want these grains to be uniform throughout the manifold -- hence the need for normalizing heat treatment. the only negative thing about steel is corrosion. i've used ceramic coatings before and thermal coatings as well and this solves the corrosion problem.

thanks for the reply and pics zeeshan, for now I am adding 1/2" to the engine side of the manifold. It brings it out enough to clear the LIM. If it doesn't work out, I'll be in touch.

Order some piping and flanges. build your own manifold then take it some place and have it welded if your not capable. Its far less cheaper and can get a sick mani for 600

What about the HKS unit it looks like a solid manifold and its under 6 bills...

I do a manifold for a very good price. Pm me for more details.
Steam pipe manifold 16mm flanges. Only thing you have to do is weld on your wastegate outlet flange onto the pipe. Manifold is mostly tig welded and mig welded in a few spots. Manifolds are not equal runners but are close and they are split to the flange. Wastegate collector is at turbo flange, i whole saw into the two pipes at the turbo flange. |

HKS is a tough manifold, mines been 10yrs this yr, never any problems.
and i dont have any tune problems either, NOW if you have to have every last ounce of power, it may not be the ultimate choice, but it will make 500hp. you make the choice on what you need!! |
