Cleaning spark plugs

I, as many of you other single turbo rx7 owners do, run pre-mix. My car is also running pretty rich (10.4:1 under boost) So, I foul plugs all the time, i have a feeling once the car is tuned it may not be as bad but they still will need to be replaced way too often. My question is, is cleaning the plugs safe to do (for the engine)? What i did this time, instead of buying new plugs, i cleaned of all the loose oil and carbon saturated sludge from the plugs with some break cleaner. Then i took a fairly soft wire wheel (mounted on a motor) and cleaned the hardened carbon off very gently. To be honest, the plugs look pretty good and the car is running well. I just want to know if I am in for a surprise down the road as far as the plugs go.
