AZ Rotary Rockets - Single Turbo Tubular Manifold - This thing is sweeeeet!
Snagged up one of these and wanted to share....
They offer a single wastegate and dual wastegate option. The dual wastegate (i gott a snag pics of it) will offer dual 38mm tials vs the 50mm for the single. Fully devided T4 frame tubular manifold with equal length runners. Even comes with a sleek heat shield. This is BETTER than a heat blanket for a water cooled turbo. It's designed to re-direct heat rather than hold it in the turbo like a blanket does. I thought I would share some pics of the product they are putting out because I am a happy customer. 321 - the welds are fully penetrated so it will not crack.

Nice manifold though! -J Manifold is thirteen inch lenth 2 inch dia runners all 321 stainless with devided flange. All flanges are 321 as well. Oh and bdump tubes are same 321, so in other words everything is 321 stainless. Thanks for the compliments. |
I would run a THICK mild steel engine flange because stainless warps easily..Maybe just a suggestion, you dont have to take me seriously :)

Almost looks like it's mig welded though when you look at the up close pictures you can see a "bead." Just because something is penetrated doesn't mean it wont crack either. There needs to be supporting around the runners and main flange to the block.
I've seen many welds and trained many people to weld. When you are familiar with peoples work you can actually pick out of a group who welded what. There's a point where welds become just like a signature. Those are the welds of a newbie... |

Its not easy to control the warping that is for sure on this one we were able to sand it flat with out taking to much off. |
Alright guys, doesnt matter how puuurty it looks, as long as it gets the job done! ;) The manifold design looks nice, no sharpe bends to decrease flow etc. I am concern a little for the wastegate though. Its right inder the DP and behind the turbo..Thats a hot place, literally.

glen the problem with stainless flanges is they warp when the engine heat cycles causing sealing problems and cracking runners. also Mono is dead on and you should back purge. the design isn't bad just try to get with an experienced welder to give you some pointers.

I don't want anyone to think I was crapping on it. The welds on the manifold will do fine. The only think I see wrong is that there is no support to the runners from the block flange. This is a MUST! When the manifold glow's hot (and it will) each seperate piece of metal will expand at a different rate. The supports will keep the expansion under wraps...

Thanks for the suggestions, I did not do the welding if I had my druthers Paul Yaw (my trainer and mentor) would weld it for me but he is way to busy with injectors and I am too busy with engines to weld, not to mention this is a proto type. Look for tretty soon I will post up some pictures

The design looks good.But all the tube manifolds I've had have cracked.Have you tried schedual 10 stainless.It's really thick, and takes the heat.

I have run the same cheap stanless manafold for 4 years no cracks 480 h/p even had it black ceramic coated and it still looks new. I belive egt's too high is the primary cause of header failure. And that falls back on tunning and flow.

The trend will still be for all the exhaust gas from one runner to continue on to its corresponding turbo scroll runner as that is the easiest path. If you look at divided turbo housings even they often have a notch cut out of them between the runners as well for pulse communication between scroll runners. In my limited experience with a pulse and flow divided wastegate/turbo it only gained a very slight spool advantage in the 1,000-2,000rpm range and the mighty pulses of the rotary tore the 3/16" thick stainless divider in half like paper twice before I gave up on pulse divided. The way the S5 turbo/manifold gets away with pulse and flow divided is it is a solid well supported cast iron piece and the flapper wastegates unseat themselves with strong pulses anyways. I found that out when I had the stock internal wastegates open air vented. Rattle rattle fart rattle fart. |
