yes, but depends on what your goals are for the car. if its just a street car, then maybe not worth it. its a chunk of dough.

 

I'd say they're worth it, stopping power and more wheel choices.

With this setup you are just using the Hub itself. You dont reuse the acutal FC spindle. correct

the hub goes on the 84 - 85 spindle (with a provided spacer? that you have to put on)

 

Is there any way to use the TII calipers without changing out the spindles? I have 4 sets of wheels, two sets with new race tires and one set of wheels and tires that is brand new. I have no itention of going back to the drawing board on wheels. I just want bigger breaks in the front. Anyone know?

 

calipers yes, but you'll have to make brackets for them to sit on the stock brake rotor.

if you want to change the size of your brake rotor, this is the only way to go. although you can use 4 lug FC brakes if your keeping 4x114

 

I forgot that there was a four lug FC. I may have to look into this...

Can anyone post a listing of all the pieces that are necessay to buy to make this work? Trying to get an actual cost here.

 

I'm trying to go this route, I have the kit from respeed, but haven't been able to find junkyard calipers yet (always non-turbo cars in the yard near me), I do have the 4x114 hubs though. I'm not sure that they make a 4x114 drilled rotor that is the same diameter as the TurboII setup. I'm guessing they're different diameters as well as different offsets, so i may have to re-drill some TurboII 5-lug rotors, as i definitely want to keep my 4x114 panasports!

Anyone know about the rotor situation?

In order to use the 4 lug hubs you will use the 5 lug rotors and drill new holes.

The best practice is to use a mill and find the center of one of the lug holes. Then drill 3 more holes. This gives you the 4 lug and 5 lug pattern with one of the hole being dual purpose.

Also, the 4 lug aluminum hub has a part of it that sticks out higher (past the rotor) than the 5 lug. Your wheels will not sit down correctly. I have always used a 1/16" spacer behind the rotor to sold this.

I made a thread on how to convert too turbo II 4 pots with 4 lug hubs from the second gen. Everything you need should be in there enjoy!

Also this setup cost me about 400 bucks. I found calipers at the yard with rotors for like 20 bucks and grabbed some 4 lug hubs from guys on here. There are tons of guys selling them lol. I used the Respeed conversion kit. Billy is awesome and his produce hasn't failed me yet! Also a lot of performance parts companies will custom drill the rotors before they ship them too you so there is no worries there.

 

To correct a misunderstanding about the 2nd gen calipers, one can use calipers from:

TII
GXL
87 Sport
88 GTU
S5 GTUs
Any Vert

What you are looking for are 4 piston front calipers that came on the above listed models.

I really wish you'd make a big break kit for those of us who are rare wheel ****** and are sticking to our big bearing 4x110 PCD.

 

We did for a while. It was the mark II brake kit. Included aluminum hubs, rotor and all the hardware. It was 110MM and 4.5" dual bolt pattern. We only sold around 10 kits due to the cost *I guess*. Those chunks of aluminum are not cheap and put the kit around $400 mark.

I thought with that kit you had to use the small bearing 81-83 struts though.

 

True, that was due to the inventory we had of the kits. If new kits were made I am sure we could design them for 84-85

This is definitely a great upgrade. It's very easy and straight forward. Opens up availability for lots of wheels if you go 5x114.

I was at the junkyard today and saw some dust covers on a Turbo 2, I thought about getting them to use later when I get this kit but didnt.

 

i'm not sure if it will work. i've never seen one lol

 

I dont see why they wouldnt...... worst case, you might have to redrill the holes that hold it to the strut assembly.
