Question Anyone have experience installing an HKS CAMP (not CAMP2) into an RX7?

Found this via internet search:

http://www.socalevo.net/docs/manuals...%20Install.pdf

Best I could find in english. Only problem is, once installed you need to set it up so the CAMP knows it's reading input from an RX7 (91 TurboVert in this case)

I was refered by Pettit Racing to their UK division who have installed a CAMP2 into an RX8 (search Youtube and you'll find a video) and asked the following questions. But posting here in case someone already has this experience.

Cut and paste of pertinate part of the email to Pettit:

"Anyway I need some help setting it up as the factory instructions I have are in Japanese and the instructions in english I found ont he internet was incomplete to answer the follwing. The english instructions direct "Identify the correct Injector, speed sensor, cylinder setup that matches your car." but doesn't give any vehicle break down reference on whats what for my RX7.

Please advise if the following guesses are correct:

"Injector"
I assume I just input 550 for the stock primary injectors

"Speed Sensor"
No clue. I assume the Camp is just counting pulses and there is no uniform pulse count to distance. Thus the need to identify into CAMP my automobile make and model. In the alternative I'm guessing I can drive a measured distance and then input that distance into the CAMP so it can translate the # of pulses to true distance. Can you give guidance on proceedure to identify my car into the CAMP. In the alternative, if my guess correct, proceedure to input the information?

"Cylinder"
Lists 4-12 cylinders. The Pettit rep I spoke to suggested I identify my 13B as a 4 cylinder engine . Correct?

The english instructions I found on the internet suggests there is also some fine tuning to the injector and speed to also do. Perhaps you can share experience as to how excited I need to get over that aspect."

Any comments or experience anyone can share here?

I can now count myself as one with hands on experience installing the old school camp. The challenge wasn't so much the install as the set up after install. I just supplimented my post with the found information I was looking for. Cylinders - 4. speedo - 4, injectors - what actually running in the primaries (550cc in my case).

Best of all, I was able to get wiring and operation manual from HKS in PDF. Might be a good thing to email to a moderator so a sticky with links to them be posted in this Interior/Exterior/Audio thread.

I went with the old school CAMP since my 2nd Gen is pre-OBD much less OBD2. However, on further research, it appears the CAMP2 can be used to a certain degree with pre OBD cars with the addition of a function box. In the process of this project I aquired a second CAMP box as a just in case. Don't need it anymore since I'm good as is, so I'll probably be putting it up for sale in the near future.

FYI, Pettit UK has installed a CAMP 2 in an RX8. Know this as I corresponded with them in my search for information.

You'll need the perifories to get non-basic readings like Boost, High Temp (EGT), low temp (oil, water), Air Fuel.

Any double din that has A/V inpute will work so long as you can work around the auto defeat when the car is moving. I went with the Pioneer AVIC only because there is a very sophisticated forum where modifications such as that is discussed at great lengths. Non of the other head unit providers seemed to have a forum community like the AVIC.

I have the junction box, only way i can get the non-basic readings. I actually have an old school CAMP and companion junction box left over (you know how over accumulationg for a project goes) I'd consider selling for what I paid. But you'll still need to source the sensors for the junction box from HKS product re-sellers.

I have a CAMP w/ Junction Box and all the sensors. I mounted it in my FD and powered it on, but never wired up any of the sensors besides the most basic ones. What's the going rate for the system now?

5. I use a single din with a pop out display. =p

3. and 4. are really the same thing, the junction box provides those readings to the CAMP unit.

I'm not sure what it's worth, but I'll go through my closet and dig everything up should I decide to sell it..
