How to recognise 99spec turbos on car

Hallo all
I bought my 92 european rx7 fd 6 months ago. It suposedly has a 2001 jdm motor and so the 99spec turbos.

Is there a way to verify that my turbos are really the 99spec and not the europe 92 spec ones? Also i woukd like to check this without taking the turbos off the car/engine.

Is there a specific dimention i can measure that is different? Or if i take pictures of the compressor blades can we check the difference from there?

Thanks

The 99 Spec compressor is hold down by 3 plates with 6 bolts, the pre-99s are hold down by a large snap ring.

There were "99 spec" turbos that were 265hp(255) as well as 280, which to casual observation, were otherwise the same as the early ones. If you can clean the crud and corrosion on the rear compressor housing, near the inlet, model is stamped there....for all versions.

exactly what they said. you can also remove the front intake pipe enough to see into the compressor housing and look for a black ring around the wheel

Only N3G1 turbos are what we call "99 spec"

Fastest easiest way is the compressor covers being bolted on or held on with a snap ring.

Really? All FD turbos are engraved with "HT12" on them?

I thought only 99Spec (280HP) had the HT12 (or N3G1) marking.

The turbos are Hitachi HT-12 turbos. OEM-wise, there are 3 versions of the turbos - N3A1, N3C1, and N3G1.

N3A1 is the originals. N3C1 is basically the same, but with a higher nickel content in the turbine housings to keep cracking at bay. N3G1 is the "99 spec" 280hp turbos.

Notice the bumps in the back of the aluminum compressor housing. That is where the bolts thread in. That's the dead giveaway that they're N3G1 turbos, easiest way to tell on the car.
