Speed Machine Closed?

Anyone know if speed machine has closed its doors for good? I am trying to purchase a haltech from them but the site is down mailbox is full. I know they pop on the forum sometimes so I thought I would see if I could get in touch with anyone who knows what is going on?

Archie 04-07-08 05:44 PM

I'm 99.9999% sure they are closed for good.

chibikougan 04-07-08 06:19 PM

Haha that is what I was thinking but thought I should throw it out there. Well I wonder if Haltech will give me a sweet package deal then.
Someone from Cali wanna go by and knock on the door? Haha

X-JaVeN-X 04-07-08 07:10 PM

check the haltech section here on the forum...i forget the screen name.....but they sell haltech packages on their site.

chibikougan 04-07-08 08:20 PM

Will do.

RB_eater 04-07-08 08:33 PM

SMP are down!? Damn, another one bites the dust...

At least I had time to get my haltech from them but it's still kinda sad...

SirCygnus 04-07-08 09:34 PM

Why they're closed?

RotaryResurrection 04-08-08 01:18 AM

Because the rotary game is a shrinking community that will not continue to support full time businesses forever, especially with the current state of politics on this forum.

chibikougan 04-08-08 01:20 AM

I tried to support them. lol

CWestFD3S 04-08-08 01:30 AM

That sucks...they did such a good job building the FC engine I wanted them to build my fd motor too...

It's only temporary. There's still a heavy enthusiast base. There's also the Rx8 in the future. :)

-1 for being biased

The after market auto industry in general is hard to stay afloat in.

Especially when you start to cater to a certain crowd such as rotaries which isn't as wide spread to generate a constant flow of income.

Honda's/Subies/Evo's seem to be where it's at right now.

Rotary engines certainly is a niche industry that I don't think the RX-8 is helping to sustain/grow. Hopefully Mazda will release something more than a concept car rotary to liven up the community some.

Archie 04-08-08 01:52 PM

Because SoCal is overflowing with "rotary experts". There are more rotary "experts" than there are actual drivers. It really ends up being a driver's market.

Well, I got to see their Supra before they closed shop.

well uhhh 04-08-08 03:03 PM

I dont know if they are closed but i do know that the site crashed in november, suppsedly due to a certain employee that ended up embezzling from the company and was said to crash the site on purpose. this is what i was told by SMP themselves. it took from november to a couple weeks ago for them to get my credit back to me. Certainly harsh times... sad to hear.

fleetcolormike 04-08-08 06:07 PM

Refer to this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/lounge-192/new-things-my-life-708937/

Dave Gibson = fc3s.org = Speedmachine

shortly after he left the company ceased.

rmjmotor 04-09-08 10:54 AM

I used to order the Haltechs for my shop through them, then they disappeared, ended up just going direct with Haltech for them

I've known Dave for a while, always been good to me

Wow I didn't hear about the embezzlement, same thing happened to me around Dec/Jan. I ordered a Haltech and they told me the payment was declined, yet the exact amount was missing from my account. I thought it was something screwed up with the online ordering. Took my bank over a month to investigate and re-credit my account.

I recommend Chris (C. Ludwig) at http://www.ludwigmotorsports.com/ That's where I ended up going for mine.
