I vote Laguna Seca. It'll be perfect! Mazda Raceway. Close enough to Monterey or Carmel.

That would be fantastic. For selfish reasons anything norcal would be wonderful.

Sonoma Raceway is quite nice too.

why was it more expensive at the track? only difference i would guess should be the cost of bringing everything the extra 2 hours away from socal. yes i know there are no tracks down in the heart of LA, basically saying any show outside the valley is going to cost more, not because it was at the track.

I guess I jumped to a quick conclusion that renting out the track for the day is pretty expensive vs. another venue.

Palm Springs generally 10 degrees hotter there than Rosamond. The average high temp for Palm Springs in September is 102 degrees.

+1

Consider a coastal airport like Camarillo Airport. Beautilul weather this time of year. Recently a Porche club held an Autocross event. Lots of area to show off cars.

I would LOVE for us to have SevenStock at Mazda Raceway (aka Laguna Seca) not only because it's a MAZDA raceway and because that track is Legendary BUT....

Laguna Seca is roughly 300 miles north of Los Angeles
I don't imagine a lot of the older rotaries (old school, repu, etc) would want to make the 800 mile round trip.

Cost to drive 800 miles (did you guys see what gas prices have done this week?)
Hotel costs for everyone as I doubt they'd want to make the round trip in one day after being out at the event all day long.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to do it at Laguna Seca but there are lots of challenges with that venue considering the majority of cars at SS come from SoCal.

oh, and we haven't even discussed cost yet... Laguna Seca isn't exactly cheap.

Seems like the Great Park in OC & the giant blimp hangers at what used to be MCAS Tustin are always showing up in car commercials these days. May be worth checking into as well.

I looked into the Great Park for SS14 and it was very... prohibitive... due to Irvine Company policies.
MCAS Tustin is a great venue but unfortunately they've torn up most of the asphault so it's difficult to get street cars in there and the hangers are currently leased out so civilians are no longer allowed on what's left of the base.
Last I heard Lexus was using one of them but I'm not sure who has it leased now, could still be them.

Either way, those are all awesome suggestions and we're open to new venues.
Heck, maybe we'll even pick a different spot EVERY year just to keep it fresh and change things up.

each booth and car parked on the premises paid to enter, each car that went on the track also paid for their time. i figure most of the costs went to staffing outside the normal target area for the event. further away it moves the more expensive it gets. i could be wrong with the discrepency of booking the whole lot, but i would take that up with the track staff if the space cost more than the fees taken in, i'm quite sure the track made plenty off the event and i would hate to see the SS organizers have a distaste for having a similar event again in the future.

as i told one of my customers who didn't make it: you missed out. where else would you hear a 4 rotor clearing it's throat on the track? none of the videos do them justice.

just my two cents ... Sevenstock to me says tradition ... and traditions tend to stay regular lol .... lost my train of thought as I'm still at work but hopefully made some sense ...

makes absolute sense.

^^ You know, the Porsche Club of America, Orange Coast Region (PCA OCR) guys run autocross at El Toro. I've done a couple of their events, it would make a perfect place to put a bunch of cars and run a "safe" track day!

Last I heard, though, was there were some plans for developing the land there...not sure how that is going to pan out :(
