thank you

Had a great time. Ran into some old buddies, had a great track day. It was pretty hot but not unbearable and this is coming from a beach guy. Thanks to all you for putting it on and BIG THANKS to MAZDA for bringing out the 4 rotor cars, what a treat to see them hauling serious @$$ on a big open race track like Big Willow. Just plain awesome to see them in motion and to hear the wonderful sound they make when running at speed, there is nothing like it.

Are you guys going to set up a picture/video thread? I have a few pics and an in car video from the track day...

Thanks to the organizers and the Sevenstock staff for another phenomenal event! I can't wait to do it again next year!

i know, i saw everyone sweating towards the end of the day and i thought i was going to see people passing out soon!

wish i had time to hang out after the show but i had a few cars getting delivered that evening(Mikes FC) and another shipped the next day(Dick's blue 8 that died on the track). will be working on setting up a real booth next year. i also will try to get there on time next time instead of at midnight(headlight issues in the middle of the desert kind of suck). i'm still a little amazed that my FC rarely gives me any grief on those 500+ miles trips with all the neglect i have given it.

big Thanks to everyone who put together the show! it was good to see some faces i haven't seen in a few years.

My son and i had a good time,he won a t-shirt for asking and answering a question at the raffle.i was a little disappointed there was only 1 drag race car, talked with him for a little while.it was really cool to see the 4 rotor cars on the track.and oddly enough i had seat 20B on the plane trip back home.

Had an awesome time this year. Just made the swap over to 7club, I have known a bunch of people for a long time on here, but I have always kept busy with the AzMazdaClub. Good to match a few names and faces together.

Looking forward to next year's event.

Did your kid ask the 808 question? I was impressed. Future rotorhead for sure!!! Can't wait to see his first daily driver. I'm guessing Rotary for sure!!!

Anyone know where I can get two t shirts? one female one male? Living on the east coast makes it hard to get a shirt while at the event. I love the designs of the shirts though!

Josh, the SS organizing committee decides depending on a variety of factors.

SevenStock has been held at the following places:
Bonelli Park- San Dimas
Mazda R&D - Irvine
Mazda North American Operations -Irvine
Fairplex - Pomona
and now... Willow Springs - Rosamond

RotaryEvolution 10-04-12 10:14 PM

RotaryEvolution 10-04-12 10:54 PM

We've done this event for 15 straight years, no plans to stop now.

I vote Laguna Seca. It'll be perfect! Mazda Raceway. Close enough to Monterey or Carmel.

Well it seems like it would be real expensive to do it at a track again. Considering that we already went over budget this year, we would probably have to set up a donation fund so we can raise enough money to have an event such as this years.

Palm Springs may be quite welcoming to the Concours crowd, but based on my personal experiences with that town, we'd be about as welcome there as the caddies were in the pool in CaddyShack. Money attitude about like Beverly Hills, except more old people.

Maybe it's changed some over the years, but I got a lot of very unpleasant memories of that town, for what it's worth.

It's also generally 10 degrees hotter there than Rosamond. The average high temp for Palm Springs in September is 102 degrees.

RotaryEvolution 10-05-12 10:40 AM

why was it more expensive at the track? only difference i would guess should be the cost of bringing everything the extra 2 hours away from socal. yes i know there are no tracks down in the heart of LA, basically saying any show outside the valley is going to cost more, not because it was at the track.

That would be fantastic. For selfish reasons anything norcal would be wonderful.

Sonoma Raceway is quite nice too.

I guess I jumped to a quick conclusion that renting out the track for the day is pretty expensive vs. another venue.

Consider a coastal airport like Camarillo Airport. Beautilul weather this time of year. Recently a Porche club held an Autocross event. Lots of area to show off cars.

I would LOVE for us to have SevenStock at Mazda Raceway (aka Laguna Seca) not only because it's a MAZDA raceway and because that track is Legendary BUT....

Laguna Seca is roughly 300 miles north of Los Angeles
I don't imagine a lot of the older rotaries (old school, repu, etc) would want to make the 800 mile round trip.

Cost to drive 800 miles (did you guys see what gas prices have done this week?)
Hotel costs for everyone as I doubt they'd want to make the round trip in one day after being out at the event all day long.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to do it at Laguna Seca but there are lots of challenges with that venue considering the majority of cars at SS come from SoCal.

oh, and we haven't even discussed cost yet... Laguna Seca isn't exactly cheap.

1BADSP 10-05-12 04:25 PM

what about us drag race guys, have it at race track were both events can take place.

Seems like the Great Park in OC & the giant blimp hangers at what used to be MCAS Tustin are always showing up in car commercials these days. May be worth checking into as well.

Jedi54 10-05-12 05:49 PM

I looked into the Great Park for SS14 and it was very... prohibitive... due to Irvine Company policies.
MCAS Tustin is a great venue but unfortunately they've torn up most of the asphault so it's difficult to get street cars in there and the hangers are currently leased out so civilians are no longer allowed on what's left of the base.
Last I heard Lexus was using one of them but I'm not sure who has it leased now, could still be them.

Either way, those are all awesome suggestions and we're open to new venues.
Heck, maybe we'll even pick a different spot EVERY year just to keep it fresh and change things up.

each booth and car parked on the premises paid to enter, each car that went on the track also paid for their time. i figure most of the costs went to staffing outside the normal target area for the event. further away it moves the more expensive it gets. i could be wrong with the discrepency of booking the whole lot, but i would take that up with the track staff if the space cost more than the fees taken in, i'm quite sure the track made plenty off the event and i would hate to see the SS organizers have a distaste for having a similar event again in the future.

as i told one of my customers who didn't make it: you missed out. where else would you hear a 4 rotor clearing it's throat on the track? none of the videos do them justice.

just my two cents ... Sevenstock to me says tradition ... and traditions tend to stay regular lol .... lost my train of thought as I'm still at work but hopefully made some sense ...

^^ You know, the Porsche Club of America, Orange Coast Region (PCA OCR) guys run autocross at El Toro. I've done a couple of their events, it would make a perfect place to put a bunch of cars and run a "safe" track day!

Last I heard, though, was there were some plans for developing the land there...not sure how that is going to pan out :(
