Lizard, we just drove up there in a truck. I didn't have my '61 ready yet. And my buddy didn't want to drive his '52 up there. We looked around for a while and bailed. There weren't many used parts and that's usually what we go for.
We'll be up at the Sevierville show Oct 6-7. My friends all go and camp the whole weekend. I usually just go up for the Saturday. It's a great show! Mostly been working on the '61 when I have a chance. Haven't turned any wrenches on the 7's still. As money allows I plan on getting started.
Glad to see a few more people coming to this thread. Welcome aboard!

LizardFC 08-29-12 01:04 AM

You didn't miss a whole lot, a big rain storm came up late in the afternoon and ran everyone off before the bands even played. There's a good chance that we'll be at the October show. The Bug needs a valve adjustment and oil change first and I'll probably be doing that next week.

As for the 7's, right now I'm working out a dent near the passenger taillight on the vert. When I finish with that, the S5 tails are going in. I'm also going to have to replace the rear wheel bearings soon, something I've been dreading. But it has to be done before I autocross it again. I have a set of slicks waiting to go on it too, so that's good motivation. The first gen has been patiently waiting for me to finish the oil setup. I have the cooler mounted and most of the stainless hoses built. With the dryer weather, I should be able to get that finished soon. Hopefully it'll be boosted by the time autocross season starts next year. And probably blown shortly after :D

I also sold my aging Subaru and bought a Mazda 3, so my fleet is 100% Mazda now. At least until Subaru builds an STi version of the BR-Z...

hey i just got my first rx7, 88 fc turboII. im stationed at Ft. Campbell. i like to travel so if anything is going on always up for a good drive then hanging out with others with same interests. currently am dealing with an over heating issue. thermostat has been pulled, radiator flows fine. thinking water pump but dont know any ways to actually check the pumps pressure out put, help please.

LizardFC 10-05-12 11:49 PM

Welcome to the sorta TN RX-7 club. Water pumps usually leak from a small hole in the front when they go bad. Are you losing any coolant anywhere? If your coolant level is dropping and you can't find any leak, then it's probably going into the combustion chamber via the coolant seals. Bad news. If your coolant isn't disappearing, then there could be blockage somewhere in the coolant passages of the engine.

LizardFC 01-26-13 10:28 PM

The Knoxville guys have been talking about a meet once the weather warms up, maybe March or April. Something small before DGRR and such.

Crashie 02-07-13 10:22 AM

Yeah, pretty much

I've been around chatt for awhile, with my never ending fc project. Just recently picked up another, needs a little tlc, but I'm working out the bugs. Hope to get her back on the road this evening. I work out of town frequently, but should be around mid-April.

jake87 04-01-13 09:38 AM

I live in Murfreesboro and just recently purchased a 93 and will be asking for suggestions along the way of getting it a little faster. It already has power fc, exhaust, 850 injectors all around, intake, supra fuel pump, al. radiator, non-seq turbos. I will just need to check on the reliability mods and be asking some other questions as I dig into the car a little more.

Lizard's right.. If it's not a rotary it's not a RX anymore. A lot of people do that conversion. I personally would never do it.
I've been away from here for a while. Hope everyone is doing well and things are good. I've been working on my VW's many a thousand years and haven't been getting any RX time.
Played with my 7's today for a little while. Hoping for great things in their future.

Welcome back! Did you make it out to Bug-a-paluza this year?

thumpgun 06-10-13 10:55 PM

Thanks! Yeah, I was there. Took my '61 and entered it in hoodride class. Didn't win anything though. It was fun and I finally got the car ready this year. Just missed it last year.
Now that it's finished I'm concentrating on the work my 7's need. A rebuild for the TII and some new suspension, window scrapers, door seals, new wheels and tires on the '85. I'm going to sell a couple of cras to fund most of the work. And take my time getting it done.
I replaced the wiper/turnsignal cluster on the '85 today. And my wiper still won't work. Fuse is good, wiper motor works. So somewhere it's not getting to the motor.
Hope things are good on your end.

Cool, my girlfriend and I came in her blue '71 Super. That was the best show they've had, I think. Last year the weather was terrible. Turnout was huge this time and the weather couldn't have been better. I took 6 gigs of pics so I probably have some of your car somewhere.

That's a lot of work to get done. Any ideas what wheels you're going to go with? I think the relay for the wipers is in the switch itself, so it may be another bad switch. The FC's are famous for going bad so I'm sure the FB's aren't much better. Check for scorch marks on the harness too, it may have corroded on the dash side plug.

Right now I'm still working on the blowthrough turbo for the FB. We got a rallycross program going this year so I've been sliding it in the dirt and building on it in between events, which has been hectic. But it's about 90% finished. I worked the gremlins out of the turbo-vert and I've been autocrossing it and cruising around.

That's what I thought, built in relay. I'm pretty sure it's not the switch in the cluster. I think it's something else. I'll get it tracked down eventually.

Yeah BP15 was great. I still don't think I got to see everything. Let me know if you post any of those pics. I'd like to see them.

I'm glad you're getting some of your work done on your cars.

isoprovophlex 06-20-13 09:18 PM

I'm in chatt I got an fd last year. I recently bought an fc for my friend as well. I haven't seen any others around here except for convertibles.

thumpgun 06-23-13 07:19 AM

There's not a lot of 7's left around here anymore. I see an occasional car every few months. But that's about all.
There used to be a lot of cars. And when I worked at my friend's rotary garage in '01-'02 there were a lot of rotaries around. They've gotten scarce because of no repair source and the misunderstanding of the rotary.
If you ever need any work, message me. I know the guru in this area. Been working on rotaries since '75 and used to train techs for Mazda on rotaries.
We're about to start a rebuild on my TII.
Or you can probably find someone in the Atlanta area.

Christopher Jr. 06-23-13 10:50 AM

There was a general car meet last night and turnout was about 20 cars which isn't bad for the first time. There was 1 fb, a 2nd gen very, an s4, and an rx8. When it comes up again, I'll post up the date. Who is the guru that does repairs on rotaries around here.. Is it Craig?

isoprovophlex 06-23-13 12:00 PM

Last night my friend with the fc talked to a guy with an fc that just came from a meet. hmm

thumpgun 06-23-13 08:09 PM

Would be cool to see a few rotaries here somewhere. Post it when you find out when they might meet again. Both of mine may be down soon though.
Yes, it's Craig I'm talking about. We're really good friends. He's not full time anymore. But we're about to build mine. And he said he may work on a few cars again.
I only know a couple of people with 7's around here these days.

Christopher Jr. 06-23-13 11:10 PM

Isopro, that may have been my friend with the fc lol I went home after the meet. Thumpgun, I will definitely lpost up when the next meet is for sure. Craig is a cool guy and he seems very knowledgeable. I work with his stepson, which is how I met him. Maybe he can do some work on mine sometime soon. Do you think he may know how to streetport?
