Phil, Mike and Chris - thanks for your help and yes what you are saying makes sense to me. It's not that I think tuning is some big secret it's that I think that majority of people think it is. It's almost like no one actually wants to tell you what parts and maps and tuning processes are used to get to a certain level with your FD. Instead people just list what the most common bolt-ons are that everyone "should" do to their FD. But you guys have cleared some things up for me...thanks.

Anyway, thanks for the help and I'm definitely down for some fishing! My house is like 2 miles from the TN River and Pickwick, Wilson and Wheeler Lakes are smallmouth loaded.

Herblenny 05-16-07 09:50 AM

Hey Brad,

Why don't we have a get together around your neck of the woods and go fishing?? I don't have any stuff though...

Herblenny 05-16-07 10:08 AM

Lets start using MRCCAL.com

hus 05-16-07 10:25 AM

Sounds good to me. I have 5 or 6 rod and reels and enough tackle and bait to last a long long time. I can probably get us all out on pretty big (but old) pontoon boat if you don't want to just fish off the bank.

Also, what WB is best? I was lookingat this one but whatever:
http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/ngk%20uego.htm

Herblenny 05-16-07 10:47 AM

you might want to see if its compatiable with datalogit..

I know people have used Innovative LM1 with datalogit without an issue..

Its all about ability to datalog.. hehe

hus 05-16-07 11:09 AM

Gotcha

Well, I'll let you borrow and rod and reel, we'll hook up the Bass Pro Shop Power FC to it, throw on a Wideband and do some speed fishing and hope that you don't "pop" the reel  j/k

I would love for all of us to get together and do some fishing. I'm no expert but I do fish about 3 days a week on average.

Herblenny 05-16-07 12:38 PM

Cool! I'm in! Its been forever since I fished!!

sk8world 05-16-07 11:02 PM

Ok, Big Eds pizza is back open in its new location. We need to agree on a day and time to do a monthly or weekly meet. Best Pizza around!!!

Herblenny 05-16-07 11:04 PM

Doc, Sorry to hear about your Camery.. .That sucks!

Mike, what kind of pizza?? New York style?? I used to live in Brooklyn and miss BIG new york pizzas.. LOL!

By the way, I mentioned about fishing to one of the local guy and he's up for it!

sk8world 05-16-07 11:55 PM

Not sure if its considered NY style but I have been around and I love there Pizza! Its not the thick kind or real thin. But it is thinner then say Domino's.. They have been around long enough that my parents used to eat there while I was still sucking a bottle! And I still suck on bottles for the record!!

hus 05-17-07 10:04 AM

As far as the fishing goes, I was thinking like around the 2nd or 3rd of June. I would do it sooner but my brother is putting on that annual carshow in the Rogersville area this Saturday so I told him I would do that again. And then the next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend and I'm probably gonna take the wife and my boys camping. So 1st weekend in June sound good?

I'm up for pizza!

sk8world 05-17-07 12:50 PM

Uh, BDC tuning that weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gilgamesh 05-17-07 01:33 PM

down for big eds!!! the last meet was there for the HSV guys. where is their new location?

hey sk8world i heard you took a little trip to Orilieys, haha this guy had pics of your car on his phone

hus 05-17-07 01:50 PM

Sorry Mike, I forgot. :uh: How about June 9th and/or 10th.

sk8world 05-17-07 01:56 PM

Thats funny... Yeah, I had to get a belt to fit my power stearing. Guy that worked there took a few pics. Those guy's there are pretty cool. Let me borrow new tools and all..

Big Eds is in the old Peanut Factory. Beside Shoney's.

sk8world 05-17-07 01:58 PM

June 9th-10th may work... The 15-17th will not.

Herblenny 05-17-07 02:07 PM

By the way, those of you who will be in Bham this sunday, we are having late lunch this Sunday in Pelham.... more specifically, some of us will be hanging out at Leo's shop and check out Drew's new ride!

sk8world 05-17-07 02:59 PM

steering belt not stearing belt.

hus 05-17-07 03:39 PM

My tentative schedule:

May 19th - Rogersville Carshow
May 26-28 - Memorial Weekend Camping Trip
June 2-3 - BDC Tuning
June 9-10 - Possbile Fishing For Everyone
June 16-17 - Not good for Mike. I'm probably going to Louisiana.
June 23-24 - Another Possible Fishing Weekend if 9th-10th isn't good for everyone
June 30th-July 7th I'll be down in Orange Beach, AL

So let me know when some of you might want to get together and go fishing and share some of those tuning snob secrets

Brad

Herblenny 05-17-07 05:26 PM

Only June 23rd-24th weeekend is bad for me.

and July 7th is the gathering in ATL.. Which I can't wait as I want to go eat some good FOOD!

hus 05-17-07 10:20 PM

So right now I'm saying that if you want to go fishing them come on over on the 9th or 10th of June.

Oh, I got my DP/MP combo yesterday and started taking the stock stuff of a few hours ago. Everything is off and I have to say that it wasn't the hardest thing I've done but it was still a bitch getting to everything. I didn't break any studs but the bottom front one did come out with the nut which is no biggy. I also used a Indexible Ratchet and a 14mm Box-end ratchet which both came in real handy. And a whole bunch of PB ;)

So I'm gonna bolt the DP and MP on tomorrow and just drive it without giving it much power until my boost controller arrives which should be in the next day or two.

I also ordered the LM-1 Wideband and I'll be getting the datalogit from Rotary Performance. I also kept the order on the Nippondenso Fuel Pump so I'll be getting it to.

Brad

sk8world 05-17-07 10:42 PM

Glad to see you buying from rx7.com. I spent 30mins today on the phone with Ari. They are so helpful. If I run into a issue that I need help on I call Chris or Ari. Everytime I have called them they take time to discuss my issue with them. Good service like that is getting hard to find.

rx7 FC TII 05-17-07 10:56 PM

hey Phil let me know where you guys go eat on sunday and ill try to stop by and say hey.....the FC is still down until around november inless i come into enough money for a rebuild.

SPICcnmGT 05-18-07 08:27 AM

Brad, A boost controller may not stop your boost from spiking or creeping with a MP unless your wastegate is ported, but there is only one way to really tell and that is try it.

Chris, I guess I'm just gonna risk it for a while and see what happens. Mike says he made several passes on the track without a ported wastegate and several others have said that it's defeinitely safer but not essential. If it pops I guess I'll be doing what Stephen and I discussed at Outback in Chatt. and that's to just "go fast" all at once. Maybe a street port with all the goodies I need to hit the range of 400rwhp. But maybe I won't have to worry about that for a while.

Boy Don, I bet you can run really really fast with a turbo attached to your feet!

SPICcnmGT 05-18-07 10:57 AM

I did it for a few months too, I was just warning you. The most it ever hit with me was about 15psi, and I used a WB to check it and it was really rich like 10:1, with the stock PFC fuel map.

Oh yeah, and way back when, I was one of the fastest highschool sprinters in H'ville (11.1 in the 100m)... I probably couldn't outrun a tortoise nowadays.

Herblenny 05-18-07 02:16 PM

Damn Don! I didn't know you could run that fast!!

Herblenny 05-18-07 03:16 PM

By the way guys.. the 7/7/7 meet in ATL will be covered by MazdaSport (article by ME!) So, lets get a caravan together and head over to ATL in JULY! I found a great Japanese/Korean/Chinese Buffet!

hus 05-18-07 03:20 PM

I think I might drive my FD down to Orange Beach on June 30th and leave early, like around July 6th, to make it to the 7/7/7 thing. I guess I could come up to B'ham on the 6th and caravan with you guys on the 7th. Or are you leaving earlier than the 7th? Let me know and I'll try and make arrangements to be there.

Herblenny 05-18-07 03:52 PM

I'll just leave on the 7th! the thing doesn't start until 3PM.. I should get there right at 3..

If you need to crash in bham, you are welcome to at my house.

then around 7, we'll go get something to eat and head back! Should make it back to AL by 10-11PM... or we could all crash at one of the ATL rotorhead.. hehe..

hus 05-18-07 05:01 PM

Phil, Sounds good. I'll try to work things out but I might have to take you up on your offer and crash at your place. I'll let ya know well in advance.

Herblenny 05-18-07 05:33 PM

No prob!!

I bet I have over 100 passes at the track running 14psi. Best ever was 7.8 in the 1/8th. 12.3 in the 1/4.

Doc-1 05-18-07 10:44 PM

260 for the Head rebuild 230 of a gasket kit 130 for other assorted parts so far and the daily driver may be back. Okay I am not much for Atlanta but I am up for a meet.

sk8world 05-19-07 12:53 AM

I am tied up this weekend with family, how about during the week? Say 7pm at Big Eds? Any night except Wed.

hus 05-19-07 11:28 PM

Finished my DP/MP install yesterday and I'm having a hard time not going WOT because I love the sound coming from my old RB duals. Don't have my Profec-B Spec 2 yet. At a little over 3/4 throttle the PFC is reading 0.82 bars consistently and around 64% injector duty. Ok, I found this chart http://www.onlineconversion.com/ and it says that 0.82 bars is roughly 11.9psi. But I'll keep it under control until my profec-b spec 2 arrives.

Brad

sk8world 05-20-07 12:13 AM

To get your boost just multiply 14.7 times your bar reading. (14.7 times .82=boost in psi 12.054) What gear and rpm was that reached? Are you just getting the peak of commander? If that is peak in 3rd or 4th gear you are fine..

hus 05-20-07 12:20 AM

Yeah, it's the peak off the commander. 3rd gear, 3/4 throttle roll-on. My boost gauge looked like it hit somewhere around the 13 or 14psi mark but the commander said the peak was 0.82 bars consistently after about 4 roll-ons after 4 different times during the day today.

Here is my new set up. I redid the fuel system today. Running heavier gauge wires from pumps up to fitting in lid. I already did a relay set up and 10 gauge wire from battery to relay. I used to have each fuel pump running to separate rails now I have the 2 feed lines t'ed together and running to priamry rail then to secondary rail via regulator then back to return. I am hoping this solves my high duty cycle at high boost. If this does not do it then I will pull the walbro and add another nippo rx7.com pump.
I also relocated the coil's to firewall and got new 10mm magnecor wires. So if anyone wants to but my other stock fitting magnecors in 10mm let me know.
