Thats a tuff one... Put on a ricer paint job or trade for a Rustang... I vote the keep yours as the value is going up (check KBB). Mustangs come down so quick in price you will regret it in a few years. But in the end what you want is all that matters. If it makes you happy that is..

Whats the issue or why are you so set on selling the FD...?? You have trying to unload for over a year so you must not be happy with it.

Lol Mike, you crack me up. As far as what the issue is well, the issue is me. Everyone that knows me knows that I can't sit still when it comes to my hobbies. The problem is when I want something I gotta have it, and it doesn't have to be one certain thing, it can just be that I want something different. <---That's where the biggest issue is. I'm not hurting for money or anything but I don't have enough of it to have an FD, Aston Martin, Viper, Shelby GT500 all at the same time. My problem is "The Wants"...plain and simple. Some people have a hard time with that and can buy something and keep it forever but I sell/trade everything I've got but my wife, kids, family and friends. Everything else is up for grabs whenever I feel I need it to be.

Honestly, I love my FD but it's not exactly the way I want it to be because I rushed into buying it without knowing a whole lot about RX7s. Crybaby? Maybe, but I want things the way I want it when it comes to toys. I wished I would've spent the same amount of money on a FD with everything on it that I wanted on it instead of a low-mile stock FD that I've already spent another $4,000 on and it still isn't what I want it to be. And $4,000 isn't that much when it comes to car hobbies right? And putting a car together the way you want is the fun in it right? Yes, but when I'm done it'll end up being a $30k-$40k FD when I could've bought the FD that I want now for $20K. It's just the way my mind works. All I can tell ya is that I need to win the lottery. But then it would probably just be swapping out Lambos for Ferraris.

I wish I wasn't fickle but I am.

I thought I read it on Innovate's website, but I can't seem to find it now. Well, the only other option you probably have would be FJO wideband. I know for a fact it uses both the Bosch and NTK sensors.

Well I got some news from the missus Sunday evening that tells me to get the 7 done. We're expecting our 2nd child sometime around May/June next year. Gotta get it done this time. Apparently I just thought it was hard to come to any rotary events/gatherings...

Wow, seems like 2008 is the year for new arrivals. Congrats!

sk8world 09-27-07 04:19 PM

yea, I here ya... I do agree when I here guys buying a near stock FD and trying to lowball one only to get home and start spending more on parts. In the end its always cheaper to buy one already down. The problem is finding one down right. I have always said if my car was stolen I would never buy another one unless it was already complete-turn key 500+ rwhp.

Not sure if I got any advice for you at this point but a Rousch sure is hell ant no shelby GT500!!! ANyway when we doing Pizza??

Don, I am ordering an FJO now. Sucks $700+ for the set up I want it!

Mike, Yes I know a Roush ain't no Shelby GT500...but no one is offering to trade me a GT500 for my FD either

RDAVEX7 09-27-07 11:24 PM

who works at Rheem in Montgomery? I was just there for 2 days from Washington State and saw a red S4 in the parking lot but never got a chance to talk to the owner.

Herblenny 09-28-07 02:34 AM

Mike,

I'll do my best to clear up the Bosch vs NTK.

Far as I know and heard that you can use NTK L1H1 (but never tried).

The difference between two are very minor. i know back in the days (5-7) years ago, everyone raved about the accuracy of NTK. But some of the tests I've read, its only 1.5% different from Bosch 4.2 vs L1H1. The cost difference is too much to justify going with NTK vs Bosch ($180 vs $60). I rather put the Bosch in all the time (with unleaded and with heat sink bong last upto 500hrs, leaded gas uptp 50hrs) vs using the NTK for just tuning. But most case it really doesn't matter as I think not datalogging your A/F, the info isn't too useful. But still nice to see your A/F when cruising and such... and avoid the hassle of putting one on everytime you need to tune..

Anyhow, hope I cleared up the issue regarding LM-1 Bosch vs. NTK debate.. hehe!

Herblenny 09-28-07 02:55 AM

Mike, I didn't know you are having a girl! Congrats!!

Brad, I agree with Mike about FD's going up in price. Just to give you an example regarding 90s japanese imports increase in price... I recently had a conversation with David Jerome and Jeremy Blackwell from Speed for Sale and they told me that 98 Supra with 3K miles, bone stock in Quick Silver, went for OVER $100K. I know those Supra owners are fucking CRAZY but $100+K for a bone stock Supra IS insane! But I personally think thats a good thing since I personally think FDs are much better looking and handling cars then Supras.... I know some will disagree.. but weight difference is a weight difference..

But regarding selling yours and getting modified FD is a good idea. Only issues I see is that you need to find one from reputable FD owner who knew what he/she was doing. You could definitely find one like that from burnt out FD owner who's switching to another car (If I were to switch, it would be for up coming skyline or like Mike, Porsche, or Lotus). But to be honest, even if you get one modified, you will still want to change parts. Ive said to myself many many times, "This is the last thing I'll buy!", "I'm not going to get rid of my IC!"(regarding my Greddy FMIC), etc... but I kept buying parts and putting more shit on! But I think thats the fun of it. There are so many shit thats available for FDs that its limitless what you could put on. I think once you are bored out of your mind about what IC, intake, exhaust, gauges, injectors, body kit, wheels, brakes, etc... then you could easily get into track and tuning. I think those who's been around FD for years are starting to do that... I'm kind of leaning that direction as when my blk FD is finished, I don't know what I'll do next.... maybe thats the reason I'm so slow building that damn thing.

sk8world 09-28-07 09:41 AM

First the L1H1 is of no more. The L2H2 replaced it. Seems the going price now is $200 to 220. I have been reading up on these 2 sensors and bottom line is the Bosch is a great sensor for pump gas street cars. These are the main reason wideband kits became availabe for the low price of today verse the 700+ from years back. Now I have spoken to Felipe (there main) tech guy at Innovative numerous times he tells me 1. NTK will not work without a changein programs and a harness that they do not offer. 2. The Bosch sensor should run up to 50 hours on leaded gas but the worst enemy to the Bosch sensor is heat+richness+leaded gas. He even used "heat from a rotary motor" as example with out knowing what I drive. In the end he could not convience me why I would want to stay with a LC-1 over FJO w/NTK. I also posted this thread up on the Single turbo section and found all major players using NTK. Crispeed, Xcessive, JayNYC, AnthonyNYC, BDC, etc... 4 years and running with race gas from crispeed. Here is the thread: https://www.rx7club.com/single-turbo-rx-7s-23/more-about-widebands-leaded-fuel-c16-607774/ and mine: https://www.rx7club.com/single-turbo-rx-7s-23/what-wideband-use-w-single-race-gas-691702/

blwnrtr93 09-28-07 11:05 AM

Brad, in regards to buying a bonestock car... I feel your pain, although I picked mine up with bad turbos for little money. I've since dropped more money back into the car than I paid for it. I wish I had searched the forum more extensively before I bought a few parts because I lost my ass on a couple. Point being that it's easy to have alot of money tied up in a FD quickly.

staticpat 09-28-07 01:30 PM

Just to reiterate the point about Japanese sports cars going up in price. As far as the mkiii supra community is concerned, a few years ago turbo 5spd supras could be had for under 3k very easily. In the last year the prices have been shooting up, you can barely find one without problems for under 5k, and many are selling for upwards of 10k. This seems ridiculous for a 20 year old car, but hey I'm not complaining. At these prices I could almost trade mine for an FD :D.

EDIT: Oh yeah I should probably introduce myself as I am new. I live in Hoover and have been a member on ARS for a while. I just bought an 87 NA to learn about rotaries, so I'm prepared when I eventually get an FD.

I was at the autocross last Sunday and followed a FD with the tag NSTY 7 around Hoover the other day.

hus 09-28-07 01:43 PM

100K is crazy stupid!! So then, maybe I should park mine to keep the mileage low so that I can sell it for around 50k in the ext few years ;) I don't know what I'm going to do to be honest. I'm always looking for a good deal and try not to get too attached to any of my toys but the FD is by far the best toy I've ever had...even over my Ducati. Thanks for the responses though, they might help me clear my head. Also, I have no patience when it comes to toys but I'm working on that.

Its was a interesting night... I will write more on it later. But I made 10-15 good pulls. Uping the boost each time. Ended up making 415 by 17.69psi, 440rwhp next, then 512 at 26psi last pull.

blwnrtr93 09-30-07 10:08 AM

Congrats on both accounts, Mike... the next addition to the family and hitting 500+ hp.

Porsche is staying stock for now Brad.

Dang, My buyer for my VR FD backed out... Can't believe it! They were suppose to be here at 10AM, then 3:30PM, then they call me and tells me they are short on cash and had to write me a check... Then at 5:10PM, they tell me they can't afford it.

Anyhow, Now its back on sale!! Now I've spent so much time pulling the engine out and such.... At least I get to keep the deposit...

With the new job I can afford all my medical bills and keep the car. I am so happy.

yeah, SFS event. You coming?

hus 10-10-07 04:51 PM

So Phil, how much am I gonna have to come down on my price before you'll buy my car? ;)

sk8world 10-10-07 05:41 PM

Well I hate to say it but I know one on here who just bought a silver 39k original Base model for 2k less. Has some basic bolt on's, SSR comp wheels, HKS CB, DEFi gauges..etc... He got a hell of a deal. Not that your car is not worth every bit of 18k but just letting you know what you are up against. My suggestion is hold out until you get your 18k, not a penny less. Otherwise unload it for 16k'ish if you want it gone!!!

Or you could always part out the aftermarket stuff and still get 16k for it plus the add ons.

85rx-7gsl-se 10-10-07 05:45 PM

In HDP's defense, the BSJ was pretty good this year.

hus 10-10-07 05:58 PM

I'm not hurting or anything but I might unload it for less. FDs really aren't going in the 18k to 20k range here in the south like they are out west and up north...that sux.

Herblenny 10-10-07 09:51 PM

Quick stats...

Alabama has the 5th lowest median income in 2006.

Lower than Alabama are, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and West Virginia.

Just so you know, Median Household income in 2006 was $38,160 (AL).

AR - 37,458
LA - 37,472
MS - 34,343
WV - 38,029

If you really want to sell the FD, I suggest posting it on surrounding local car forums (TN and GA)... Or Ebay!

sk8world 10-11-07 12:10 AM

true.. Or you could keep it!!! I am sure the FD's have hit rock bottom and can only go up in value.. Nice thing is in 10 or so years the collectors and such will pass on cars like mine that are moded to the max and give you top dollar! I was just talking with Chad last night about how much I enjoyed my FD when it was running twins making around the 330rwhp mark like yours. Not to noisey, did not smell like gas always, had AC, could here my radio, could road race it or drag race it, etc.. It was more enjoyable to drive back then. Dont get me wrong, 500+rwhp is a blast

I think you go through this every year. Must have something to do with fooball on your mind!!! Hopefully it will pass before you unload a nice FD!

Herblenny 10-11-07 07:46 AM

I agree with Mike! I say keep it!! There are many former FD owners on this forum who left and came back to FDs.. that should also say something about these cars.. Also, statistically, spring/summer is the best time to sell... even though I think fall/winter is the best time to drive these things. Drive it for next several months and sell it next year! Enjoy it!!

Its median not mean. Super wealthy should not effect the median.

Of course Alabama is ranked 43rd 2005-2006, and 45th 2006-2007 in education..... Just kidding!! Its a common mistake people make when they think of median vs mean.. But its also true Alabama public education sucks!!

hus 10-11-07 03:20 PM

It's going to stay for sale until it sells. And by the way, I live about 20 minutes from the nearest place to play the TN lottery and I try to play every week. I win a lot more going to Tunica then I do at scratch-offs and powerball tickets but it's still fun.

Hey, I'll be near that area this sunday (deals gap). Let me know if you want to meet up. Cell phone reception will be at minimum so we would need to work out a time and location. Also, Speed for Sale event is week after.. So you should come out to that.. that would be the next BIG gathering for locals and surrounding area.

Alright, this is for you Mike..... So I didn't go with as fancy of ride as a DB7 or Viper but I have tentatively purchased a 2001 Mustang Cobra convertible with a Vortech Supercharger, 42lb injectors, BBK headers, Flowmaster exhaust and a few other goodies, with a Dyno of 427rwhp. Only thing I gotta wait on is loan approval, which won't be a big deal. I still have my FD and it's still for sale but I may end up keeping it to. If someone makes me a decent enough offer I'll probably let it go. Just an update.
