Very very tempting.

::edit:: Disregard, the want was too great. Pre-ordered on your site.

RapidCancel 01-02-16 12:58 AM

Do you plan to do more groupbuys for this later on? I really want one, but the holidays absolutely destroyed my wallet..

Not really... it's getting to the point where making this is negatively effective our productivity business wise. I realize the're expensive and if we could do them for cheaper we would, but the components are honestly very pricey and we do not cut any corners. We've got somewhere between 8-9 hours a set (now even longer since Sonar changed the glue to a not heat-based glue and they are virtually impossible to separate now). Basically with the new permanent glue and other projects going on at the same time for new components... it's becoming apparent that we can't continue making these much longer into the future. We also are having a hard time simply sourcing the Sonar housings now, we waited three months and were only able to get 14 sets).

Just so everyone has a heads up, over half of the available kits sold over the weekend

Just ordered a set on the web site... not gonna last long!

Billy7 01-05-16 12:20 PM

The want was so great, I had to give in. These lights were last on my bucket list as I rarely drive at night. But because these are going to be very limited or no longer available, I had to buy them!

Neo 01-05-16 03:40 PM

The hype isn't overrated either. These lights are fantastic! 1 of the best mods I managed to do to the FD.

I had no doubt that these would be high quality from all of the reviews I've read. Just was a bad time for the sale for me given the holidays, but whatever. I caved and just paid in full from the website anyway.

Same here--I ordered on Monday (1/4/16, paid through PP) but don't see my Zip..

SakeBomb Garage 01-07-16 05:47 PM

^ if you guys got an order number than yes, I'll comb the website again later for stragglers but we were able to grab a few more headlight housings yesterday so we haven't been as concerned with overfilling the GB. I've got a request in now, trying to source more housings but we typically absorb 100% of the headlights coming into the US, and this is all we've been able to snag.

There's actually now 16 spots available but with you two on we should be up to 12. It's hard to keep this maintained across forums, facebook requests, etc. but the website inventory tracking is our bible, if you can place an order... there's a kit available.

RapidCancel 01-07-16 05:51 PM

^ Awesome, thanks for letting us know.

Mjedi 01-07-16 10:10 PM

Nice, are the bulbs replaceable or do have to replace the whole housing?

These are industry standard D2S bulbs used on Mercedes, Audi, etc... they're relatively inexpensive to replace but typically last over 100K Miles ;) so most likely you won't be replacing them any time soon.

SakeBomb Garage 01-13-16 02:24 PM

Just a heads up to everyone, we are over capacity for the group buy. We are currently trying to source more components and will update as soon as we have news, but everyone that has paid is currently guaranteed a spot (we were able to grab a few extra housings, and are trying to grab more now but are waiting to hear back from the manufacturer, but have absorbed all of the housings in the states currently). The below list has been collated in the order of date/time the order was placed.

Sorry to keep asking, but I still don't see my zip. I ordered on the website and my card was charged, but I still don't see my zip on there. I just want to make sure.

Order # 1744
5th Jan 2016 @ 7:19 PM
Zip 77095

Order 10 could possibly be mine if the house number was swapped with my zip.

Damnit, I hope you don't stop making these. Just purchased a new home and have bigger priorities at the moment but these were one of the last things I planned on putting on my FD once I'm caught back up financially. Keeping my fingers crossed.

On the bottom of the thread above there is a photo showing spider cracks.

To Sake, are you guys aware of this problem where the projector lens cracking? I certainly wouldn't want this to happen to the light I am buying.

+1 to that!

If you look at the units when they are retracted, they are directly above the oil coolers in a R1.
For non R1 the driver side has this problem. This may be the cause or part of the cracking problem. This was mentioned in one thread.

I made aluminum blocking plates for both sides in my R1. They keep the hot exit air from coming up into the housing area.
Then the whole area has self adhering woven fiberglass insulation on top of that. This keeps and high heat away from the units.

thrice00 02-01-16 06:46 AM

Nice advice, gonna check this out when i install them

Any photos of this contraption u made? Love to copy it.

What is the ETA on this Sake?

SakeBomb Garage 02-03-16 02:20 PM

We've started in on them, and will post pics as we go. Since the group buy tripled in size it's going to take longer than originally anticipated, but we've already got a head start on them. We'll post pictures and updates as we progress, but we're splitting headlights currently and are in the process of shutting down non-essential operations to convert over to headlight making for a few weeks. I'm estimating a few weeks at this point. :)

Make template out of paper, cut aluminum, and either glue in or use strong 2 sided tape which I did.

No picture of installed insulation. Over the metal.
