FromSilvia2seven 02-04-06 01:45 PM

that way the drifting was done as a driver i wasn't impressed with his driving but its a nice car though it does sound weird

seanfd3s 02-04-06 02:41 PM

shows a ls1 is not a handling mod.

SiKoPaThX 02-04-06 03:17 PM

Ls1 Rx-7s maintain the same weight balance as the rotary.

Next.

Next.

hard to belive a v8 will maintain the same weight as a 1.3 with not even half the parts in it.

Mark Corbett's LS1 Rx-7 pulled 1.095 Gs on the skidpad. Any question?

ls1`s are VERY lightweight. most of the parts are aluminum and stuff. they are really great engines. i love the rotary, but that truly is the next best thing

RX7_Fanatic 02-06-06 12:23 AM

if you didnt know that came from a vid another user posted up a while back with a bunch of runs of different cars, the track was wet, and everyone was having trouble adjusting, hence why he went out so wide, there is another awesome vid of lukes FD doin a couple passes on a track somewhere on this site...i believe just look up lukes fd...lol

my ls1 conversion* weighs 15 lbs more than stock R1, but improved the front/rear weight distribution versus stock R1:

LS1 Rotary
Left Front lbs. 684 718
Right Front lbs. 695 718
Total Front lbs. 1379 1436

Left Rear lbs. 705 660
Right Rear lbs. 645 618
Total Rear lbs. 1350 1278
TOTAL Weight 2729 2714
% over Front 0.505 0.53
% over Rear 0.495 0.47

any questions?

*my conversion deleted AC, PS and ABS.

buzzbomb 02-06-06 12:26 PM

Sounds wicked.

TonyTurboII 02-06-06 12:33 PM

That thing sounds like shit.

I also assume you aren't running multiple catalytic converters, dual oil coolers, and an overly complicated and bulky sequential twin turbo setup fed by an extremely heavy cast iron manifold.

I'm curious whether you have your battery in the stock location or have moved it to a storage bin. Also, haw far back is the LS1 mounted in your car relative to the REW setup? Had the firewall been modified at all?

Any R1 owner who is serious about performance will at minimum delete AC, PS, and get a lightweight exhaust. A single turbo conversion will also shave considerable weight. I would like to see the corner weight of a bareblock 13B-REW FD vs a bareblock LS1 FD.

That being said, the LS1 swap does have incredible performance potential and I'm not throwing it down one bit. I happen to love the videos of your car.

Just wanted to give an unbiased opinion.

WOSE 02-07-06 10:33 AM

I love the way it sounds... I want one

2MCHPWR 02-07-06 11:29 AM

the red car is sandro's and he is SCCA racer so must keep it all stock. that was the only rx7 that took me up on invitation to autocross last year at giants stadium :( my battery is behind pass seat in bin. stock unmodified firewall. all mods on my site.
Even stock rx7's handle great and i just posted my info to show that other guy that a properly set up ls1 conversion won't mess that up :)

but my car is in the process of gaining weight. i already added an oil cooler. i am waiting for raceshop's chromoly 6 pt rollbar, and i'm re-installing ABS shortly.

people can say the same about the rotary. i know it's not my personal favorite, but it doesn't matter what you like, it's what the owner likes that matters :)

oditot 02-07-06 08:23 PM

i actually got to take a passenger seat run around the cone drift track at Thunder Hill on Dec 10 or 11,i cant remember, but it handels awsome. Just as good as any other FD ive been in. Rode in an LS1 FC and thought the same thing. I was at one time a LS1 RX-7 hater but all that changed real quick. For any one els out there on that day we were driving the getto ass black Turbo2.

BlastinSideways12A 02-11-06 08:59 AM

Your LS1 FD looks EXTREMELY well done. Everything looks as if it belongs in the car. Someone who did not know that the RX-7 came with a rotary from the factory wouldn't even know that it was an engine swap. These are the V8 swaps that I greatly respect. Someday (after graduate school) I hope to own two FDs, a stock engined one and an LS1 swap. Or a rotary FD and a C6 Z06.

I would NOT, however, put an old iron-block carbed V8 into an Rx7, ESPECIALLY an FD. Its so much weight and I'm a technology lover, plus I like revs.

Thank you for the compliments. My friend andrew and i build the car in 2 months, in my garage, and we were drunk half the time.

Turned out pretty good.

KaiFD3S 03-14-06 01:13 PM

love the way that thing sounds..

n2trbl 03-15-06 10:31 AM

sounds like american muscle to me. I'm still partial to teh "make you go deaf" high pitch yell a well built rotary makes...and all it's pops, and flames shooting out and what not. But that's just me :)
