The new carb setup helped out alot. I went from 8.2 to 8.0 and from 83mph to 85mph. Here's the timeslip. I got vids too and I will post tomorrow after I edit- too damned tired right now.

Ultimatejay,

A little more seat time and you should be in the 7 second range. I believe Rene has one of those modified Turbo II trannies you might want to ask him how much he wants for it. There is also a guy on ebay that sells those modified Turbo II's that look real nice. I have never used one of those trannies myself, but it has to be better than a standard H-Pattern.

Nice to see you sticking with your setup and tuning it.

where are all the Mazda proyects in Cali ? I knew like 10 or more cars in the works, but no show. I told my son if no import drag race events come our way , we're going drifting or time attack next year. I love the red bull fc 4 rotor

Joe, I know that there are not alot of import drag racing events anymore but that's no reason for quiting. There's Irwindale every thursday and other drag strips around that we can go to. It's not like we go to the events for the money. LOL. Just let me know when you head out again and I'll do the same and if we can get as many rotary guys as we can out at the track I am sure it will be just as fun. :) See you at the track.

Cali is not drag racer friendly, they keep closing down tracks and places like California speedway and their dumb no quicker than 10sec rule .Full on 1/4 mile drag racing facility that don't allow cars quicker than 10secs :Wconfused or better yet bring your car insurance . Irwindale have their issues to, when the city comes out to check the noise db's and car like mine can't run for the night. :crying: :crying:

I know it's pretty bad, but not a reason to give up and go skidding.

I have raced at Irwindale quite a few times and only ran into one time where they checked for noise levels and made us wait. But you are right they are definetely bias toward the rotary guys out there. I think if you enter California speedway bracket series race they will allow you to run quicker than 10 seconds? What about Barona, Palmdale and Vegas? Also, does Pomona every open up to the public? I have never seen it and was wondering why not?

I know that's all we have 2 and 3 hour drives to barona or vegas ,palmdale closed last year.  skidding , donuts ,and burnouts .jay even with the sevenstock events they never want to add a drag, drift,or anything other than just standing around looking at the same cars over and over .I stop going

mazda1200 12-28-08 02:02 AM

I'll let you know joe...

Hey i know everyone is saying i am going to the dark side but i am not quiting the drag racing....hey got my Rx3 still and ready to go anytime there is some kind of event, like Joe says only here and there. The reason i am going into drifting because there is so much events going on i am having a hard time keeping up.I was tired of sitting around doing nothing on the weekends and hey what can i say the drift is growing so much i got sponsored by new companies and i got enough stuff to build 5 cars right now....and that is what i am doing 5 cars for drifting all for competition and track days...Drag racing is in my blood,i have done this for a long time and always will be...buisness is buisness got to do whatever it takes to get my name out there and my new sponsors.

Many racers out there have only raced one type of sport so trying another sport seems like"i'll never switch to another sport i am a die hard" kind of thing,,but believe it or not i said the same thing a while back until i got to sit in a car with a pro drift driver and he blew me away with the skills and the feel of another type of racing....so i cannot change many peoples mind but i did and i Like the Racing.

Here is a short video from this past weekend...I got 8 hours of track time and never got off the car only for lunch break and tire changes.Logged 45 miles worth of track time on a 1/4 long track so figure that out.I also got some nice bruises on my back and legs from clutch kicking and going sideways. Its a freaking work out check it out

Specs:87 Mazda Rx7 GXL with welded diff and bone stock engine....

Hahaha, my wife lost our camera the other day and that's why it has taken me so long to post the pics up. I just got that camera today for the old lady- works pretty good. Those wheels are like looking in a mirror. I can't wait to see what they look like on the car. :)

Ok guys, I need some opinions. I just finished installing my Aerospace front brake conversion kit and mounted my new wheels and tires. Something looks a little off to me and I think it is the tire size. I am running 22.5x4.5x15 tire and it looks like it might be too small. This is the tire size that was recommended to me but I think with my stock suspension/coil/strut a 24" tire would look better. Unless I cut a coil off in the front and drop it about 1" but then I will start to look to high in the back- raked, like a cockaroach. hehe. Or do you think it looks ok? So what do you guys think I should do? Here are some pics.

looks very nice j , but u should go with a 24" tire it helps a ton in roll out , thats what an old farmer that has a couple of cars called "SWAMP RAT'S" told me in gainsville fl a couple of years back :icon_tup::icon_tup: I WILL GIVE 10 BUCKS FOR THAT GLIDER IN THE BACK MANG

61620B 01-31-09 10:21 PM

hey jay.

If you go bigger go with the M&H front runners.I use a set of 24x3.6x15 ,they look good on the car and gives it a bit more cushion for the ride...I had a set of 22.5 up front and it work alright
but got some nasty tire wabble at top end.....
