Time for wheelies!
4 Attachment(s)
Well after three months of nothing but headaches from the rearend shop I finally got my 9" and it in and installed ready for Sevenstock. I still need to weld the brackets for the brake lines but zip ties will hold me to get by for Sevenstock.
Right now I am using the factory 4 links, but am in the process of making cromoly adjustable 4 link replacements that way I can make some slight adjustments/pinion. I am running 26x8.5x16 ET's and it was a very tight fit. I had to trim the front lower fender a little. I don't know how those Aussies fit a 9" tire under stock chassis. They must hammer the shit out of the body and fenders! Well, here are some pics. |
Looks good Jay... Did your lazer cut brackets line up perfect?? or did you have to redrill some of the holes?? I want a set of those brackets

Some run stock frame rails with new wheel tubs... not sure if they notch the outter side of the frame rail for extra sidewall clearance |
Whats the width of the rear from brake rotor to brake rotor??
Also, whats your back spacing on the wheels? |

I have 8.5's in the back and they fit snugly, but well. You can get a 9 to fit on the passenger side with no mods, but not the driver side. The Gas tank, and panhard bar mount is in the way. If you remove the tank, and mounting bracket for the panhard, Along with knocking the shit out of the inner body well, 9's will fit.

Finally got my adjustable chromoly 4 links and panhard today with hine joints to replace the factory one's and installed them today. It's a breeze to make adjustments now! Finally ready to make some runs with the new rearend.:)
Here's some pics. from today. |

Finally ran the car tonight in the 1/8 mile for the first time with the new rearend. I wasn't used to tires actually hooking up and on my first run I was thrown back in the seat and let off on the gas pedal and ran a 9.5 but the car went straight as an arrow. After getting used to the new rearend my last run netted an 8.2 at 84 mph with a 1.7 60ft. I know it aint' no 9 second car that you guys are used to but I am proud of it for a 12a with a weber 48 all motor. On that last run I smoked a heavy modified Mach1 mustang- he was pissed. I know I can get down into the 7's with a higher launch rpm and some tweaks here and there. I am very happy with how everything turned out and look forward to better my times. :) Heres' a picture of my time slip. I'm in the right- toyota lane. I need to get some skinnies up front as my car was pretty loose at the top end.

:icon_tup: . Whiteboy at MPH Racecars in new haven CT has Toyota and Mazda bolt on adjustable bars right on the shelf..... They work real well. Give him a call |
^ Thanks guys. The 9 second set up is not in my budget yet and with the looks of this economy it aint' going to be there anytime soon.
I was the only rotary at the racetrack last night and it was fun blowing by some v8's on the track and people looking at my engine and saying, " What is that?" LOL. Next time out, I'm going to side step at 9000rpm's and see what happens. Hopefully the TII trans will hold up. hehe. rex3- I had my links made at a local machine/race shop by my area. My dad knows the guy. If you want the shops phone number just shoot me a pm. Those Links put a big hole in my pocket though. |
Where do you go to run this bad boy?
|
Awesome! Looks great and seems to run just as good. Congrats.

hey jay congrats on the setup. lookin good. i have a similar setup nine inch on a first gen rx7 without cutting anything. right now it fits a 26x10.5x15 tire under it with a little more room. im having a problem with setting it up. the car kicks out a little to the right under light acceleration and especially with some boost on it. this is my first time doing suspension tuning and not sure what to look for. i have after market links with adjustable rod ends to help with the tuning. if i try to get my pinion angle correct it kicks out to the right. if i try to correct the kicking out i get bad pinion angle. if you guys know how to do this please help. i know this car has a lot more in it i just have to get all the little things worked out before i push more boost. i was told to setup the links with no preload on any of the links by the guys at grannys who sold me the setup. i tried but i feel like there is more to it than that.

Is it a 4 link setup reyes? Thanks Allen, I guess the wait was worth it. Next time I run I'll make sure to get some vid. Hopefully I can break into the 7's in the 8th mile. The next 1/4 mile event around my area is not until next month. I think Reyes, is running the stock first get rear link setup. It's similar to the rx2 but uses the watts links. |
Nice Car !!!!!!

Hey Jay, don't cry.... ^ You have 1 reply from the Crispeed camp

yes it is. its the factory four link on the '85 rx7 with grannies adjustable uppers and lower. and manny i know the pinion angle has nothing to do with the kick out but when i try to adjust for the kick out there is a really bad vibration coming from driveshaft. thanks guys and jay keep us updated on the car good luck with it.

Ok, I still have alot of work left to do. This is rough cut and then smoothed out with 40 grit. I still have to take some more out of the openings as you can see with the black marker and scribe. I think I freed up quite a few ponies as the stock runners/casting were awful. Here's some bad pics. I tried shinning a flash light in one end so you can see the flow better. Tell me what you guys think. I'm open for pointers.

Ok ready for a trip to the dragstrip again. I finally finished porting my intake and it turned out really nice. While I was doing that I had my 48IDA converted to 51 and also modified to use 55dcoe boosters and customer velocity stacks. I also had the float bowl enlargened and reamed both fuel intakes. Going to start it up in the morning and do some quick street dyno tunes and then take it to the track to dial everything in this thursday or next. This time I'll get some vid. I'm hoping to get into the 7's in the 8th. Wish me luck. Here's a couple pics of the carb.

Forgot to tell you guys. I took the car out and made a couple passes down a long street by my house to check the tune, slicks and all. Damn, I'm way rich now. My afrs are very low 12's all the way to 10krpm and my egt temps are low 1500degrees! I thought with all that airflow from the carb and intake porting I would be way lean but I guess the larger 55 boosters made it run rich. Even running this rich the car pulled really hard especially on the top end. Going to take it to the track this thursday and finish the tune there.
On one of the runs I pulled into a little shopping center to check my EGT temps and there were people flying out of shops to see what was making all that brap brap noise.:) I love it. Glad there were no cops around, it would have been hard to explain the no interior and slicks. |
