Here are some guidelines. I would start around 12 PSI. My car seemed to work best around 11 psi, below that and it skated around on the big end. Are your rear shocks adjustable?

Thanks! I have 32 way adj. coilovers. I have the front almost full hard. I was playing with the rear Saturday. I started at 14 which is too hard, i know.
Im going to start out at full soft next time and work my way harder if it bottoms out.

13B-RX3 07-27-08 09:09 PM

I don't know a tremendous amount about IRS cars but i would imagine you would want the front as soft as possible (rebound) and the rear stiff (dampen) to plant the tires and transfer the weight of the car onto the tires. I am sure someone will chime in and confirm or debunk this.

This is from the proper suspension setup thread.

We switched to a stiff sidewall slick and set the rear up really stiff. That was fine until 1200rwhp.....at that point we lightened the car up a little and corner weighted it. Then put ballasts back in and slowly started stiffening it up. Our car weighs 1000 lbs more than yours and makes more power but it's all relative.

Have you corner weighted your car? Do you know the front to rear ratio? You could either try and lighten the rear of your car or add some stiffness. If you lighten the rear with a hatch or something you could then ballast it back where you need it and adjust the shocks accordingly.

You might already know all this so sorry if i'm outta line. It's late and i just got in from hanging out.

Yes, you want softer shocks up front so the weight transfers to the rear.

Yes, I completely agree.
Need to allow the front end to go up transfering that weight over to the rear helping with traction.

How much boost are you getting with anti-lag in 1st gear?

Congrats Ernie, you sure are one persistant mofo. I top my hat off to you, i'm glad you haven't given up. You're bound to hit those single digit E.T's soon!!!

John,
Depends on how long Im on it. Usually around 14psi. If I on it less it will build less.

KNONFS 07-28-08 06:02 AM

CONGRATS Enie!

Once you sort out the bugs, not only you will run a single digit pass, but it will be an IMPERSIVE one too :icon_tup:

timemachines 07-28-08 07:46 AM

beautiful runs the 9's r right there,,,hopefuffuly u get everything adjusted so u get what ur looking for,,,good luck

zinx 07-28-08 08:42 AM

I know this may sound like blasphemy in this section, but have you thought about turning the power down a bit to get your launching sorted out? You've got the MPH for a mid-low 9s pass, so if you turn it down a bit, get it sorted out at that power, and then turn it up slowly it may yield better results.

Also, I can't remember what EMS you are running, but does it allow for any boost-by-gear, or boost-by-time settings?

Busted7 07-28-08 09:29 AM

Ernie your probley getting tired of getting advice from guys like me that dont run as fast but were pulling for you and trying to help!

The 11.5 et slowed down my 60 becouse i dont have the torque you have so they should help, soften up the front to get the transfer and i would keep the rear about 3/4 stiff to start, and if you can stage the wastegate and bring all that power on latter in the run then it would be more manageable.

From there its seat time and what the setup tells you it wants!
You will get there becouse your determined and not quitting which is probley why you can afford to keep trying!

Anyway good luck and have fun!

Sorry, I meant overall boost in 1st gear before going into 2nd.

I'm sure with the anti-lag you get boost instantly and possibly getting higher boost in 1st gear over no anti-lag.

JD

fdracer 07-28-08 01:13 PM

just take off in 2nd gear. barring any breakage, you'll hit your 9 instantly.

That works real well for me in video games.
Seriously is that an option? I did highly recommend it to a customer with a 450 hp SSR that has ridiculously unnecessary 4.56 gears and consistently running crap times.

Congrats Ernie, you're already there for all intents and purposes. But your camera man SUCKS! :)

Probably the best advice if Ernie will listen. :)
ET streets in my opinion don't belong on a car at that level in my opinion.
Put some slicks on it and figure out how much power it needs to launch safely without bogging or breaking. I don't know anyone with a true 7-9sec rotary that needs antilag to leave the line. On a proper setup you can make more boost than the tires could handle just on the two step.
The rest have to do wth the driver's right but more so left foot clutch control!

showoff 07-28-08 02:40 PM

ernie iam just curious what did you change between this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=HZ3HTrQ-WEo
till now??? because your launch and 1-2shift on the old video looks alot better then your present situation.. u still spun some, but it looked like you were doing much better out the hole then where you are right now, if you paired that launch with the way your car is running now you'd be in the 9s for sure! goodluck hopefully you knock down that 9sec barrier soon, u deserve it

ErnieT 07-28-08 06:45 PM

Thanks for the help guys. That last vid posted, Ray let me borrow his Koni drag shocks that Peter had made, but they are getting re-valved for his Time Attack car. Im considering the the HKS Drag Coilovers. Right now I have the HKS Hipermax coilovers.
Im ordering the slicks.

zinx 07-28-08 07:35 PM

Awesome, I think in your case, slicks will make a tremendous difference.

Not to get off topic, but i was reading your sig. What is the IRS RX-7 Record?

680RWHP12A 07-28-08 07:43 PM

dont put the slicks on with the fd tranny, carnige will follow.. not to mention you will get used to how the car drives on slicks then when yor competing with the et streets you will have to re-learn how to drive the car ...when i used to run the et streets(reqd for the street class) i would launch on 10 psi with the tires @ 12 psi.. it netted in the foot time range.the car weighed in @ 2,800 with driver ..

your getting there i think your right around carl's times arent you? anyways nice #'s T-DAWG

ari 07-28-08 07:43 PM

Hey Ernie.

I don't get on the forum as much as I should... Congratulation on the weekend, I'm sure you'll make it happen next time out. I can already see it, you and lee going back and forth... hahahah funny!

And by the way everyone's signatures are looking...

IRS record is coming to a new home!!

ari 07-28-08 07:46 PM

I remember the street class days... which car did you have that came in at 2800lbs???
