Hey guys. Here are some pic's of my new tranny. Everything is replaced including the main shaft. Can't wait to run it.

LUPE 09-28-06 04:09 PM

Wow, okay... so that's what straight cut gears look like. What's the benifit of that?

Although I don't know what I'm looking at, it looks nice :)

DamonB 09-28-06 04:11 PM

Straight cut gears are much stronger. The reason they're only used in racing applications is because they whine like crazy. Listen to any in car video of a racecar.

Ernie, does this go in a stock case and use the stock forks etc? Any special machining required?

ErnieT 09-28-06 04:12 PM

Stronger and you can shift twice as fast.

Shift speed isn't from the gear teeth themselves per se, it's because it's a dog box. There are dog boxes which don't use straight cut gears.

Somebody isn't f'n around!!! :D Details! Is that custom made to fit the stock case?

ErnieT 09-28-06 04:38 PM

Yes it fits the stock case so I'll still be legal for the street class! :D

"Which transmission is yours?"

"It's the one that says 'Bad Motherfucker' on it."

:bigthumb:

i'd like to hear your thoughts about driving with this setup on the street. any reason you chose the dogbox over a sequential gearbox? HKS had one for around $6k i believe.
and yea, i've heard a vw with dog gears and they whine (formula mazdas). sounds like an electric engine or something.

The HKS isn't even in the same league. It only has about half the parts replaced and they are no stronger.
The PPG dog box gears are helical cut and are stronger than anything else offered to fit our stock casing. With my power levels I need something I wouldnt have to replace every other race.

Check it out for yourself..

This is where I purchased it from. They are also doing the install.

Whats something like that go for? Cheaper than a Jerico Tranny? How does it compare?

Sells for $6500. It doesn't really compare to the others as it fits in the stock casing and the others don't. With the Jerico you have to cut the hell out of your car to get it to fit and that wasn't an option for me. Plus I wanted something I could run the street class in.

crispeed 09-28-06 07:39 PM

Ernie.
You got a pic of the main/output shaft?

C. Ludwig 09-28-06 07:45 PM

Really is a pretty good price IMO. Should be the last trans you ever have to buy. Figure in all the fabrication labor to make something else fit and it's an even better deal.

Those are the first set of pic's they sent me. Tomarrow they will send pic's of it as its intstalled. I was VERY specific when ordering this, wanting to know if the main shaft was replaced as I know its a weak spot.

banzaitoyota 09-28-06 07:53 PM

the HKS box is still a dogbox.

Now why you are comparing squential to dogbox is beyond me because one is a type of engagement and one is a type of shifter.

Dog box refers to the dog ring engagement that both the ppg and hks box use.

Sequential means when you shift you dont follow the "H" pattern, you pull straight back to shift up and forward to shift down.
HKS makes both a H and sequential shifted dog box.

jacobcartmill 10-23-06 11:02 PM

i need dog rings

Whizbang 10-26-06 02:38 PM
