Hey Dee, How fast is the 4.60 equal to in the quater mile?

junito1 01-29-08 12:12 PM

2.3 I4 turbo?

Arent these the same motors(engine design) from ford?

rotor_dee 01-29-08 12:27 PM

yes 2.3l I-4. This powerplant is shared on the Mazda 3, 6, and some of the ford products.

Gorilla RE 01-29-08 01:24 PM

I'd say mid 7's

rotor_dee 01-29-08 01:27 PM

For reference on my 7.39 pass I went 4.79 @ 149 to the eight. Prob somewhere around 7.2 The car weighs 2350 and runs a 78mm turbo. Because i know someone wants to figure power output ;)

NoPis10 01-29-08 01:38 PM

That looked like an awesome run. Car is straight and launched very nice.

Good luck this season....

Everything is looking good. We have no racing this year on the WEST Coast, so we're just doing it for fun. Good news though, Rene bought a Dyno, so hopefully we will be able to spend alot more time, figuring out all the kinks. I definetelywant to see a seven second time slip, sometime soon. LOL BEst wishes for you and your crew running this season.:icon_tup:

rotor_dee 01-31-08 08:57 AM

If you need any info on tuning on methanol etc etc I would be glad to tell you what i know or dont know :)

junito1 02-02-08 11:29 AM

It does make a clean run.. no doubt.. But jesus MAN. HE is rocking a FORD engine. That engine used to go on merkur turbos.(single cam version) ANd on other cars suck as the thunderbird turbo from the 80's and a few mustangs if i recall correctly.

One thing about those motors is... they could take 20 psi on the stock block like nothing...and great torque. but i hate those shits. I hope mazda redesigned it.

13B-RX3 02-02-08 11:38 AM

I do not think that 2.3 has anything in common with the old iron head SOHC 2.3.

junito1 02-02-08 04:00 PM

the same way the MX-6 turbos didnt have the probe turbo motor right?

yeah right.

The block is probably nearly 80% original ford design. The heads now on the mazda is a twincam so thats 100% mazda engineering.

PS. sick rx3!!!!!!

rotor_dee 02-03-08 07:55 PM

There are many differences between the old iron sohc 2.3 and the all aluminum dohc 2.3 most of wich i just covered in this one sentence.

For the record there are about two generations of blocks that have had major changes from the generation of engine you are describing. The MZR block, wich has made as much as 1100whp and the DISI wich has made as much as 1300whp.

The old 2.3 and the new 2.3 are as about as much a like as the rotary that chevy made to put in the corvette and the one we have grown to love in our cars LOL!!

junito1 02-03-08 08:04 PM

well different metals.. yes...

same bore? same stroke? same block, as in measurements.

13B-RX3 02-03-08 08:18 PM

A 302 ford and a 350 chevy are the same bore too :) .

rotor_dee 02-03-08 08:30 PM

If i drill 4 91 mm holes in a sheet of plywood is that a 2.3l ford engine also LOL

Sorry I could not ressit.

Yes they are both four cyl yes they are both 2.3l and this makes them similar and just about as similar as any other 4cyl that is around that same displacement honda, DSM, toyota, chevy etc etc. They are all just a little different :)

rotary8 02-03-08 10:03 PM

Dee Karagiannis PCS Test and tune video

so what kind of boost are you running and how much torque are you making like ball park figures.

rotor_dee 02-04-08 09:51 AM

Car is running 45psi and torque is right about 1000

rotary8 02-04-08 09:59 AM

Dee Karagiannis PCS Test and tune video

so after racing both rotary and piston what are the differences between them if any that you have noticed.

rotor_dee 02-04-08 10:22 AM

That is a very difficult question but i will try my best to answer.

From a technical standpoint the biggest difference in racing a rotary powered car vs a piston powered car a side from the different engines is the way they make power.

This created a huge learning curve for us when it came to gearing, fourlink, shocks, clutch and launching procedures because prior to this race car, the only race cars we ever raced were rotary powered.

Dee don't get to technical.. your already left us.. (rotor heads) we should hunt you down, tie u up with a bunch of pistons, and have u jog with them from jersey to florida, until u come to ur senses and come back to the dark side..

rotor_dee 02-04-08 06:07 PM

I have not totally left.....I don't thing that is possible :)

I agree because the last time you crossed the border and ventured into rotary heaven the security x-ray of your heart clearly showed a pic of rotor with a piston in the middle with a slash drawn through it ! :rlaugh:

SO all of you are saying that you are 100% sure that mazda and ford did not share info on the new mazda 2.3's

You guys would be surprised how many manufacturers share designs and information. Especially since FOrd owns a huge part of mazda.

rotor_dee 02-04-08 08:11 PM

No one is saying anything. I think we are not sure the point you are trying to make when you say "But jesus MAN. HE is rocking a FORD engine."

What we are saying is that those two engines are not exactly alike and if Mazda and ford work together that is not a good or bad thing just strictly informational just like chevy and saab on the ecotec or volvo and ford or Mitsu with Dodge.

Speaking of which I've seen the volvo dohc head fit on to the pinto block with some easy mods. :)

rotor_dee 02-04-08 08:45 PM

Cris,

It is real easy if you fill them with Hard-blok and run methanol LOL

I have to admit learning a whole new "thing" was fun but having all this time to look at the old datalogs with the Rx7 I feel i could change a few things and go faster..Maybe one day LOL

Yep.
You never stop learning. When you're racing professionally there's little time to mess with a combination and sometimes when you do it does not work in your favor. You gotta keep at it and eventually it pays off no matter what platform you chose to do so with.
Imagine having a race track available to you 24hrs a day all year round. You could learn a lot in a short time.

tell us more dee, if you please :)

junito1 02-04-08 09:32 PM

Jesus man, Your rocking a ford engine = damn i would love to see that car go down the track with a rotary...=/

WOuld you say its cheaper to maintain the 2.3 instead of the rotary? easier to make faster?

ultimatejay 02-04-08 10:30 PM

Why did you go to a piston engine? Werent' you running a 20b before? I'm not trying to be a prick but this is a rotary drag racing forum. I kind of take this as you are trying to slap this in our faces here?
