93 FD Rear Slick Size?

Looking to grab a set of rear slicks for my FD before summer ends and wanted to know what's the tallest tire I can run...
I will be using a set of 15x8 5.5BS wheels for the rear. Yes, I understand that 15's will not fit without some grinding as I am currently in the process of fitting them to the car.

My question is:
Will a 28x9-15 fit the rear of a slightly rolled FD? (Found a great deal on some Goodyear Eagle Drag Slicks)
Also... I know Hinson ran 28x8 rear slicks on his LS1 FD but will the extra inch width cause fitment issues?

Any insight will help as well as recommendations on tire size.

I don't think that will fit with slightly rolled rear fenders and drag alignment (no rear camber).

Goodyear says that 28x9-15 has a section width of 10.7" mounted on an 8" width wheel and a tread width of 9" (hence the sizing).

That might fit with slightly rolled fenders, but not with the 15x8 with 5.5" Back Space with works out to be 15x8 +25 offset.

For a visual, here is your desired fitment compared to my 18x11 +45 with 295/30-18, which barely fits with slightly rolled rear fenders and -1.3 deg camber.

Thanks for the info TII. It looks like the tire would possibly fit with a higher BS by the looks of the rendering, Correct?

Say a BS of 6.5 or so...

Or would you recommend using a 28x8?

I think it should fit with a higher BS wheel.

But I am not sure how high on BS you can go exactly because (especially tall tires) begin to rub the upper front of the rear wheel well on the FD.

You should be able to figure this out by what slicks people are able to run on their stock 16x8 +50 offset.

My gut says 35-40mm offset is what you will be aiming for.

Which is about 5.9-6.0" Back Space.

Through my research a lot of people running a 26x10.5 tire with the stock 16x8 ET50 wheels. Id really love to step up into a 28, particularly the 28x9, but if the space wont allow it then im SOL.

Reason for stepping into the 15" was to open more options to a full drag slick over the 16" drag radials. Since not many guys run the 15" wheel out back there hasnt been many sizes tested...

So:
26x10.5-16
26x10.5-15
28x8-15
28x9-15

are my current choices with 15 being all true slicks and the 16 being drag radial

Thanks Gilgamesh. RAllen's Setup looks like it fits the car perfect. Since I already have the 5.5 BS wheels im going to try and make it work... Since he is using a spacer it brings his BS to 6" so I believe with my current roll and maybe a small height adjustment the 26x11.5 will work beautiful.

Has anyone else tried a tire that's bigger than 26"? Would love to hear what size everyone is running on the track before I go and purchase a set
