detroit auto show...you want to see this :)

My uncle gets a sneak peek at the auto show every year cause of his position at Lear...anyway, he snapped this for me......ENJOY!

I'm certainly getting some blood flow down there :)

Choser 01-16-04 12:06 AM

Looks like a two rotor w/o the intermediary almost. Crazy.

Badass! Say goodbye to the smog police!
I would love to have that engine in my den. Quite the piece of work.

Can anyone say 4th gen maybe??? Prob not thou. They say that the 4th gen is might have around 280hp with a single turbo. :bigthumb:

Fatman0203 01-16-04 12:30 AM

Hydrogen has 90% more effiency than gasoline. BMW made a 750 HP 7 Series using a Hydrogen 8 Cylinder. Hydrogen is very potent and probably will be the future fuel.

szuchung 01-16-04 03:20 AM

 sweet!! Now I don't have to tear out my seats, AC, CC, spare tire........ to make it lighter. H2 will light it up for me:)
Cannot wait to see one run.
But will it be dangerous if you get into accident:confused: Might not pass safety test here in the US. Might be just race legal.
Nice picture though, and thanks for sharing. :p:

wonder if they tried just direct fuel injection, as others like mitsu now do. better mpgs and emisions.

Jeff20B 01-17-04 02:17 AM

That is the coolest thing I've seen today.

Here is one way to get hydrogen easily from water for use as a fuel. http://www.xogen.ca/applications.php

Very reflective intermediate. :)

David Beale 01-17-04 10:56 AM

H2 is not dangerous. You can pass your hand through the flame (quickly). It just gets wet ;) . In an accident the flameable gas rises out of the way. Many other fuels spill onto the road, where they ignite and burn anything that can't levitate ;) . Less dangerous than propane or natural gas. The problem is finding a way to carry enough to get anywhere!

$150FC 01-17-04 12:57 PM

nobody mentioned the bigass turbocharger bolted to that engine... :D

rotaspec 01-17-04 01:57 PM

Not to mention whats bolted behind the turbo. Switchable catalytic or something?
I guess no cat is required when running on H2, switched into circuit when running gasoline?

jdmluver 01-18-04 02:36 PM

look atthe housings they look like regular husings with the exhaust port on the housing

bcty 01-18-04 03:07 PM

they are regular housings..

Shamrock.James 01-18-04 05:33 PM

yeah it's been out for a while on the Mazda site, it's been known for a while rotaries are really the only engines capable of doing hydrogen as it's unstable and if sprayed into a piston engine it detonates almost imidiatley,

i have a question though would there be any gains through using pertrol direct injection?
my guess would be some rediculous amount of boost as it sprays so late detonation is completley avoidable, or even LPG could be used instead.

Jeff20B 01-18-04 06:12 PM

I like LPG too. I wouldn't mind running in something.

i was just wondering if it would work for petrol as well, as if so, you could completly seperate the 4 area of the enigine, the intake plenum would only take air in, injector area would only inject the fuel and exhust would only carry exhust, would make for much easier tuning IMO, also with a later spay, i question if it would give better burining effiency??

Jeff20B 01-19-04 02:43 AM

Possibly. :) http://www.geocities.com/cd23c/propane.html

how much, or how big of a tank would have to be used to equal the amount that a normal gas tank holds?

it's not the size that counts i the presure, and cuse hyrogen is the biggest element it is the hardest to compress, although i belive they have a 70ltr tank made up.

TommyTheCat 01-19-04 09:57 AM

uuhhh.....hydrogen's the smallest element.
