80 psi presssure regulator

Does anyone have any experience with an 80 psi oil pressure regulator on a street car? Anything negative to say about them?

It should be fine. Maybe slightly higher oil consumption.

I used one on my bridgeport, now its on the turbo streetport engine, no apparrent problems, probably safer for me to rev past 7000rpm. Remember 10psi oil pressure for every 1000rpm is required for engines.

Hey Matt, I've done about 4 or 5 of these on some of the newer, more recent engine jobs. It seems to work well. However, I'm looking more into the 100+psi units as I want to run 9000rpm's. I'm looking to use the FD regulator but am not sure if shimming the oil pressure control valve is necessary or not.

I went ahead and ordered one from Racing Beat, thanks for the opinions guys.

I just banged on my existing oil pressure regulator with a hammer and shimmed oil pressure control valve...now my oil pressure is about 90-95 psi on a high side and doesn't go below 60psi. I think that's not too bad concidering i didn't spend any money on the mod.

12a how did you do shim the valve? And why did you bang on the pressure regulator?

Rx7carl 09-18-03 08:18 AM

You put a washer under the spring in the front and rear regulator. 12A, you didnt just hammer the end to make the hole smaller did you? Why not disassemble it and shim it?

I think this only works with pre-FC engines.&nbsp When going with the FC's, Mazda made the OPR's tamperproof. :(

If anyone has a mod to modify the stock FC units, I'm all ears!

I don't think there's any way to do it. One idea would be to use an FD regulator but I'm not sure how many shims would be needed for the oil pressure control valve spring.

Wouldn't be a bad idea but on a street car their isn't much to gain. It'll cause excess oil foaming on E-shaft which may not be good.

HAHAHA Doc Ho has performed disection and drilled out the pin and reshimmed 1/8 and bumped up to 95 psi. High oil pressure does not hurt but it will start to take away power from the motor and beat the crap out of the pump if the pressure is stupid high.

mazdized 10-06-03 01:07 AM

P.S. reinsert the pin back and JB Kwiked it.

Another word of wisdom for the Ho Master!
