Yet another death. RX-7 faith lost.

Yea, so I have decided that the RX-7 is kinda crap.

I have spent a lot of time and money on this car, and I am still not even able to keep up with most sports cars.

I was beaten badly tonight by a newer model Prelude. Not a type sh.

It wasn't even like I was able to keep up at all. He blew past me like I was stopped.

Eh, no more faith in the RX-7. Considering a supra, or something with power. Maybe a Civic.

bigcox_03 11-18-06 02:36 AM

its not the cars fault. you just need more mods or you could try racing cars that are in your league, like an AMC Pacer.

papiogxl 11-18-06 02:51 AM

What do you expect out of an NA?

Rotary Noob 11-18-06 02:56 AM

So what youre saying is, you have full exhaust, fuel pump, an intake, and a clutch, and you think your drive train is going to be powerful enough to take on a sports car almost 20 years NEWER than your RX?

The car isnt crap...you just keep picking things that are out of your league performance wise...I mean, its like taking a rusty ass pinto to a top fuel race.

If you want it to go faster, think along the lines of, porting, more effiecient radiator, higher flow injectors, spark plug wires and spark plugs, better coils, megasquirt or another ECU, turbo charger, nitrous (even saw superchargers i believe in the 2nd gen forum...). exhaust and intake are not going to be enough to give your 7 much more power. Have you even tuned your ECU to take those mods?

You cant just do minor upgrades and expect it to fly past porshe's, vettes, vipers, and lambos.

SLOASFK 11-18-06 06:15 AM

tell ya what...sell the FC, buy a second generation Probe GT. They weigh as much as a GXL, but they make more power. fwd sucks, but you're probably in highschool and don't know the difference. They also respond very well to bolt ons and I never lost to a Honda and only lost to one DSM when I had mine.

JWteknix 11-18-06 06:48 AM

Tii Ftw

BuffDaddy915 11-18-06 09:44 AM

Ya man. Think about this..tha prelude has how much more power stock for stock then u? It also depends on tha kind of racing u do..from a dig, highway pull..just 2 many factors.

You really need 2 get a TII or turbo that car 2 push sum good numbers and stomp ludes, n what not fairly easily.

I had my 88' GXL and it could definitly do more damage then you are describing. I had a Ported TB with a custom made intake with cone filter(nothing fancy). Full RB exhaust. LS flywheel. That car was beating all the brand new golf VR6s and GTIs. I also had good runs with a few WRXs were I beat a few. Also beat an older nissan 300zw turbo in it.

rx7legend 11-18-06 02:04 PM

with a n/a and your mods your not going to spank everything that comes next to you, what do you expect man your car from the factory brings 140hp and with your simple mods how much have you gain maybe 20hp that brings the car to 160hp and that what the stock s5 n/a comes from the factory also, so it isn't that much power. if you want to run good you need to get a big ass street port and some other mods aside from just exhaust etc. do a little search here, there's a guy here pushing 190+hp on the wheels out of his 13b n/a, i bet he can help you in what you need to do to your car, or do a TII swap and your good to go.

IMPACT 7 11-18-06 03:50 PM

Civic? :crzyeye:

KhanArtisT 11-18-06 04:14 PM

LOL wow, grow up

Rathmar 11-18-06 05:23 PM

He probably got stomped due to two reasons.

1) his car only comes with 140hp stock and that prelude has 190.

2) due to his larger exhaust his aux ports are not opening and he's losing HP on the top end. The car might even be making less than stock HP #'s.

a honduh gaylude has 200 hp stock with mad vtak power :rlaugh:
of course he got stomped

eriksseven 11-18-06 07:13 PM

Two things. I bet your 5th and 6th ports are not opening and there's NO WAY you need a 255 Walbro... Working 5th and 6th ports are good for around 15-20whp top-end, and you're likely running SUPER rich with that pump (killing a lot of power).

RotorHead87 11-18-06 07:59 PM

You just need to spend alittle more time and money to hook up your car....so go turbo!!!

Valkyrie 11-18-06 08:11 PM

...I assume no air pump on an S4 means the same as it does on an S5? Unless you have electronic 6PI...

You should try getting the car working at 100% before you bitch about losing to Hondas :P

it's not the car's fault. spend less time playing PS2 and more time doing research on your car and how to make more power. there are many wrong things that you said and thought, but the Civic comment just shows how in the dark you are.

RotaryEvolution 11-18-06 09:32 PM

it's a GXL for god's sake... it is the luxury model and the second heaviest model compared to the AE TII... get rid of the cats, wire open the ports and tune it with a wideband and you would probably gain 20HP at the wheels. get rid of some of the options in the car like sunroof, passenger seat, interior, washer bottle, etc., etc., etc. and you will have a real sports car that would be a bit more responsive than what you have now.

or you can just get a turbo model and mod that instead. calling the RX7 a piece of shit because you lost in a heavy n/a model is a rather misinformed statement.

Haha, way out of highschool. I almost bought a Probe GT, but my friend bought it first. OH well.

I want a nice turbo RWD. I prefer the feel of RWD to FWD.

Yea. I don't play PS2 or any other consoles.

The civic thing was a joke. Get a life you faggot.

Rx7TyreBurna 11-18-06 10:22 PM

For those that have posted about wiring my ports open, the sleeves are completely removed and have plates blocking where the rods were.

I am currently saving for a T2 swap. I can't have mommy and daddy buy it for me like most of you. I have to work hard for all the stuff on my car. After rent, and all bills I have $50 a month to spend towards performance. I was just hoping that what I had bought was going to at least let me beat some cars.

I have lost to many many cars. 93 Probe GT(not stock), 96 Probe GT(stock), Civic EX(stock), Accord EX(stock).......

Hopefully my experiences with a T2 motor will be better.

well it's good that you preffer RWD, you should probably go turbo though. N/A rotary is built to last, turbo rotary is built to go fast..

and no, i didn't intend for that to rhyme..

Rx7TyreBurna 11-18-06 10:52 PM

Indeed. Turbo. Soon I hope. I am guessing sometime next year.

Paying for college too. School is expensive. $750 every three months. That is just classes.

But, I should have enough in a year.

yes, get a turbo, it will smoke that prelude stock. and i dont think its the rx-7's fault. i think ur motor is a piece of sh*t. no offense, but when I had my stock 91 na with 95psi on the front and motor(which is avg) i could keep up with stock preludes but lose in 3rd gear. I would kill 92-95 civic si hatches with boltons and cam gear and i would be a car ahead of em until smoke em in 3rd gear. so im pretty sure its jus your motor runs like crap. try a rebuild, then talk bad about the 7.

Listen to the man, except don't get a 2nd gen, get a 1st gen gt probe or mx6 with a turbo. You get the best bang for your buck. With simple supporting mods, a boost controller and fuel chip, you'll be walking on stock s2k's and keeping up with sti's on the hyway. There's nothing more priceless than the look on their faces when they can't shake you. Just don't be surpised when you can't keep the wheel straight off the line or fry your clutch down the road :icon_tup: .
