nice vid. what boost level where you running at the time?

1QWIK7 02-08-11 03:58 PM

Awesome vid man.

Are you not allowed to pass on this track? Seemed like you could have passed that F430 several times. You're def faster than him. Unless hes not pushing that car enough.

But sweet vid either way.

And yes im curious what HP you were running in this vid. I really want 400rwhp in my car. lol Must be soo much fun.

nevermind I just looked at the vid over in you tube. 1 bar 405 RWHP, with stock suspension... nice, very nice indeed. :)

Nick_d_TII 02-08-11 05:10 PM

Sweet vid. Rotary Power! Love your other vids as well!

ineedfc 02-08-11 06:32 PM

nice vid, guy couldnt get away so he just waved you around and then you definitaly picked up the pace. btw was that a dead bird in the beginning?

Passing with point-by only.
This was the level 3 run group w 4 being the most advanced.
You see him pass me with no point-by at the beginning,.. under a YELLOW FLAG, so you get the idea of what kind of a guy this is.
Drivers are required to give point-bys to faster cars, clearly this guy couldent admit to himself that the Seven was faster then his F430. In fact, you cant see it but it took corner workers flagging him to get him to point me by!
Yep this was low boost (1bar) with 405whp R888 tires
Red line 4th 2/3 way down strait, then let off cause I slid it once there at 140mph and felt weird about it.

If you take the link to youtube you can see some of the later action with some supercharged Mustangs and a very fast CTS-V, we blow the doors off a porsche something..

.

I was wondering what was up with that in beggining.

Regardless, nice vid :icon_tup:

ajsuper7 02-09-11 10:14 AM

If you pay attention you can actually notice when the f430 drivers starts getting mad, he starts throwing the car into corners and getting on the gas quickly. But it didn't matter, taught that jerk a lesson. safe, steady, but fast driving. Im truly shocked that an FD with stock suspension would be able to keep up so well with just hp mods. Great car and great driver.

Another RX7 video that is making me consider looking into FD's.

Ha ha love it! When I first watched this vid at work (with no sound because I don’t have speakers)I noticed the assertion of his pointing, as it seemed rather aggressive and harsh. I thought to myself “huh it almost seems like that dude is upset”. Lol… Now that you explained how it went down its clear that the the guy wasn’t happy

Montego 02-10-11 09:28 PM

ohjonnybomb,

So after you got the point what happened to 430? was he able to keep up of did he fall behind?

GoodfellaFD3S 02-10-11 11:04 PM

Love Monticello, definitely want to get back on that track again next year...... back in April I whooped up on some C6s and CTS-Vs but no Ferraris in my run group.

Nice vid, and please let me know about any 2011 Monticello track time :icon_tup:

ohjonnybomb 02-10-11 11:14 PM

I was really focused on the wide open road ahead of me, tunnel vision really. This was only my second time on any track, and I was in a very fast run group without an instructor, first session of the day. I felt some (self induced) pressure to push it, fearing I might not be able to keep up with this group. I dont look back for a little while, just tryin to hit the apexes and judge my deceleration right (much harder to do without a car in front to help me guage it), but when I did look back he was gone, nobody at all behind me. My driving really got a lot better (faster) as the day went on, I got to drive four 20+min sessions. The CTSV in the later video, was really the fastest car I saw all day.

Montego 02-11-11 10:13 AM

thanks for the recap

Evo - Ferrari supplies tuned cars to media, forbids media from driving customer cars a cut/paste

Chris Harris has just cost Evo all access to future Ferrari launches but I applaud him for spreading the word

Looks like it's not just the F1 team that's paranoid, same paranoia permeates the road car division

the important bits from http://ca.jalopnik.com/5760248/how-ferrari-spins

Quote:
as a journalist you are expressly forbidden from driving any current Ferrari road car without permission from the factory. So if I want to drive my mate's 458 tomorrow, I have to ask the factory.

Quote:
rival brands just hand over their car with nothing more than a polite suggestion that you should avoid crashing it too heavily, and then return a week later.

Quote:
I think it started in 2007 when I heard that Ferrari wanted to know which test track we were going to use for Autocar's 599 GTB road test, but in reality the rot had set in many years earlier. Why would it want to know that? "Because," said the man from the Autocar office, "The factory now has to send a test team to the circuit we chose so that they can optimize the car to get the best performance from it." They duly went to the track, tested for a day, crashed the car, went back to the factory to mend the car, returned, tested and then invited us to drive this "standard" 599.

Quote:
How bad has it been? I honestly don't know where to start. Perhaps the 360 Modena press car that was two seconds faster to 100mph than the customer car we also tested.

Quote:
Ferrari will never admit that its press cars are tuned, but has the gall to turn up at any of the big European magazines' end-of-year-shindig-tests with two cars. One for straight line work, the other for handling exercises.

Quote:
Remember the awesome 430 Scuderia? What a car that was, and still is. One English magazine went along with all the cheating-bullshit because the cars did seem to be representative of what a customer might get to drive, but then during the dyno session, the "standard" tires stuck themselves to the rollers. And this is the nub: how fucking paranoid do you have to be to put even stickier rubber on a Scuderia? It's like John Holmes having an extra two inches grafted onto his dick.

Quote:
So, when we used an owner's 430 Scud because Ferrari wouldn't lend us the test car, it was obliterated in a straight line by a GT2 and a Lambo LP 560-4, despite all the "official" road test figures suggesting it was faster than Halley's Comet. The forums went nuts and some Scud owners rightly felt they hadn't been delivered the car they'd read about in all the buff books.

IaMtHeRuThLeSs1 02-15-11 09:19 PM

^ WOW very eye opening.

ajsuper7 02-16-11 01:17 PM

Thats really quite sad ferrari feels it needs to do that. Im actually not too surprised they did this seeing that a C6 ZO6 will pretty much wipe the floor with the 430.

Motor Trend broke a 911 GT2 a few months ago testing it against the ZR1, Porsche gladly took the car back and fixed it. Porsche didn't scoff at what happened, they said ok we need to fix it. Maybe MT discovered a problem that all GT2's need addressed. Thus Porsche is helping themselves and not running away scared to bring back a tuned ringer with major league chew as tires.

I think this is more of a sign that Ferrari is not on top of the road car segment anymore. You can't be on top all of the time. Not that it is behind Porsche, Audi, and Lamborgini. Nissan and Chevy have cars that would murder the poor f430 for less than half the price. Maybe Ferrari's poser status has finally been brought to the surface. I'll take a 400hp FD or a ZO6 with long tube headers any day. I'd save the rest for tools and a garage to tune my cars in. Also the 512TR, 512M, 355, and 360 were better looking cars. F430 is too many angles.

stevensimon 02-16-11 02:19 PM

wow great vid. you have amazing patience to keep pace and distance for that long.

arghx 02-18-11 09:25 AM

It's funny to watch the OP let off so many times when he's still behind F430.

SpeedOfLife 02-18-11 03:01 PM

I told my coworker about that article laying out Ferrari's shady ways and he said "huh, I guess fascism never really Italy!"

Thanks for all the great comments!
*I know many of you love to drive but have never been to a track, stop wasting time.
DRIVE a hpde (high performance driver education) event, it will change your perspective.
It is only about $300 for the day (110 mins of track time)
*Monticello Motor Club is not open to clubs in 2011, and it may not ever be open again to clubs... you can be a member for just $150,000.00 lol, or there are other tracks that have club days :)
*My avatar chic is from a porno ;) I dont have anymore info on her for you.. sorry :(
I am sure if you look hard enough, you will be rewarded :)

Wow nice video... Imagine if u had the option to go paddle shift on your FD :)

gnx7 02-26-11 08:00 PM

great vid! FD's with some power and basic upgrades will trounce just about anything on the track.

Most people that drive exotics can't drive hard anyway. Fun to mess with them.

When a Porsche/Lambo/Ferrari transaxle costs $25-40K ....... I don't ever plan on owning one and really beating on it. If you want to know your mechanic on a 1st name basis.... buy one of these and then put lots of miles on it. There is a reason these cars are a few years old with only a handful of miles. They aren't reliable and their value goes in toilet when the miles are actually driven.

bajaman 02-28-11 07:31 PM

Nice driving, good job of 'racing the track, not the other driver', by the way.
Good to see the FD make a nice showing against a well-regarded sports car like the F430. If you think about it....that would make for a nice all-out race. The 430 has a 100 hp advantage but the torque would have been the same, at around 350 lb/ft...right? Weight very close, the 430 at 3000 lbs.

I'd still like to see the F430 in my garage, of course....lol!

fredox19 03-05-11 09:58 PM

Fing love it...

Slow Rotor 03-06-11 05:33 AM

Being able to smash a ferrari/lambo/any of those sort of exotics in my FC would be a dream come true, just gotta get the chance to pull up next to one. Awesome video dude thanks for sharing

How did you manage to get on a solo run group in only your second time ever being on a track?

I had to do 3 events with an instructor to get moved up to drive solo. And this was while being good friends with a couple of instructors and someone who ran the event, lol

I think he had a very good relationship with the guy who set up the track day...

Wow! I can't believe I missed this. That is my friends fathers 430, he sent me pix of a track day in which he was very impressed by a black FD. I always wondered if he would encounter anyone from the club.

For the record that Rarri is stick and on coils. It just got a re flash and race headers cat deletes as well as a miesershaft 1 off CB exhaust. I don't know how you would stack up now, rest assured I'd still be rooting for ya ;)

I guess that's why I only saw pix and not a story hahaha, he would have never let me live it down if you'd of lost. I can't wait to show him this :)

Btw ~ Although I'm pretty sure that's his just to confirm it's a stick 430, on coils Gregorio titanium on Tan interior. His father was most likely driving (keep in mind he doesn't track that often, so track etiquette may not always be on his mind), my actual friend tracks a black slammed S5 and his friend who also tracks has a silver 09 GTR, I don't know if he went that day. The last one in the group who did mention the FD and tagged me fbook on your car labeled "Fast as shit FD".

Once my FD is up I will be going head to head with him, some HW pulls and of course a nice track day. It's good to see where I measure.

Small world for sure.

ohjonnybomb 03-27-11 12:27 AM

Hey "Driver"
Yep it was your friend's dad drivin the F430. I forget your friends name but he seemed cool. As noted, that was on orig springs and shocks, I plan to lower it 2 inches asap. I think that should allow me to keep the pressure on the Rarri,.. and then there is always high boost :)
Hope to see you out this season!

GodSquadMandrake 04-06-11 08:28 AM

Looks fun!

3sgtepower 04-18-11 01:38 PM

RX-7 may be able to blow the doors off that Ferrari F430, but the Ferrari F430 could blow the clothes off women way faster than the FD RX-7.

Anyone would trade there car for a F430, no doubt (its a question of $ vs $$$)... But thats not the point.
The point is you can beat by the guy with 10X the $, if you work on your skills.
The car is a tool. A hack w a precision tool can not beat a craftsman with a good tool.
This is true at the track as well as with the ladies.
FYI, my gf is way hotter than this guy's :D:titty:

RacerJason 04-25-11 08:06 AM

Yes congratulations are in order but; the driver in Ferrari simply could not live up to the potential of his car. I know a few people that would destroy almost any modded 3rd gen in an F430. Well done, keep up the seat time/training, nothing beats it.

3sgtepower 04-25-11 01:42 PM

Hence why I like the MR2 Turbo, the Ferrari F430 copied the MR2 Turbo's engine/chassis layout when it was seen how awesome it performed in all those JGTC 300's.

ohjonnybomb 04-25-11 11:46 PM

fyi, Im no craftsman either.. Im just not as bad of a hack as the guy in the F430 lol
The Seven will hang much tighter w some more seat time, and maybe some shocks that arent 18 years old.

myersprostatus 06-02-11 01:21 PM

nice video. I enjoyed watching you ride that ferraris ass probably as much as you enjoyed your avatars ass get ridden. I wish I couldve seen the f430 drivers face the entire time and how much he checked his mirrors. lol. Did you talk to him after track run?

Holy shit, you're a hardcore troll. First you troll the FD section, now this .

ExtenZe Overdose 06-27-11 12:29 PM

Awesome driving, car and video.

d1rx7 12-05-11 12:51 AM

nice work mate!

sc0rp7 07-27-12 06:27 PM

Im a former Ferrari mechanic, and worked at Ferrari North America in '07.

First, nice kill! I love FD's.. Probably more than any Ferrari even with my training and having been to the Ferrari Factory. The F430 isnt insane in a straight line, but with the proper person behind the wheel its an insane handling vehicle, trust me. :)

You definitely outdrove the gentleman in this video, which is always a great feeling and him being in a exotic car is just that much more satisfying.

Now, as for the whole Ferrari setting up cars especially to be tested and so on and so forth, I happened to inspect and drive the 599 GTB referred to earlier in this thread in '07 and can assure you, it wasnt hyped up. It had no special mods, nor was it the fastest stock 599 I had ever driven. Ferrari's are all quick, but some of them simply run better than others, part of which I blame on just better and worse engines and other characteristics of every car. As the car is all hand built (I did it myself), some just turn out better than others when they are finished. I have personally rode in multiple scuderia's and know the Ferrari tech the PDI's every one that came/comes into Atlanta. That being said, some are just faster than others, nothing special done to them, and some seem to handle better.

Now that I kinda got off on a tangent, I merely wanted to point out that just like normal vehicles, some Ferrari's are better than others... even stock for stock.

Good kill again, and I hope if you ever cross him on the track again you get the respect you deserve and get to pass him much sooner lol...

- Chris

KrisD1 08-18-12 08:24 PM

Nice drive ;-) makes me wonder how my fd will do against my mates clk black edition, you got the same problem we have here on the Ring, some off the porsche drivers won't let you bye.
And sadly what Chris Harris wrote is true, they do this because most of their customers can't drive and nothing's more worse than death customers :-p

If the woman is only accessible due to your car then she is a whore, plain and simple. If that's what you want then the money saved from driving an FD instead of an F430 will buy you many of them.

ALways fun to see a cheaper and more unique car go faster than some idiot who thinks money buys skills.
