fd vs. 450whp ss and 06 viper... vids.
some new runs i have done in my fd, first was an 06 viper. we did a quick pull on a 2 lane main road but had a good amount of room. he was behind me so technically i started a car ahead. but i did not brake boost. we did a 40-100 run and i put close to 4 cars on him before i started stoping. we pulled up at the next light and he was pretty impressed at how fast it was. he said i was just running away from him and he did not expect that. it was a stock 2006 viper srt 10.
next run later on in the day was between me and a buddy who has done several mods since we ran last. he has a 2001 camaro ss with 11.8 compression, afr milled heads. ms3 cam , cut out exhaust etc... he makes slightly over 450whp n/a. car runs very strong. he runs close to 125 mph in the quarter. i have recently raised my boost to 18psi and set up an agressive timing map which bdc and chuck westbrook helped me with. the car has much more torque in the 5k range. here are the 3 runs we did. i put a consistant 2-3 cars on him by 140. the race to 110 i spun through 2nd and started to pull away in 3rd before we let out. also the camera car was a 430whp paxton charged 5.0 60-140mph run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aECRZRmcQ68 60-140mph run 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neyPKY7sisk 50-110mph run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGUEzXMclts |
Awesome runs man.
What RPM/gear are you in at 140?? |
Very nice
|
thanks all.
hey 1quik, im at just about 7700 at 140mph in 4th gear. i also changed my tranny to a jspec 96+ since they have a .806 5th gear. so now it continues to pull very well in 5th. it tops out sooner at 180mph but gets there much faster. |
great runs.
|
Nice kills!
|
I love the sound from the 3rd video. Under the bridge and you both gun it.
|
great kills as always from you:icon_tup:
|
Nice kills, and great video quality!
Thanks for sharing! |
Nice kill dude!
|
smg944,
so what boost level were you at when you ran the viper? 16 or 18psi? |
I'm a huge fan of LS1's! So this breaks my heart, haha. Really nice kills tho!!
|
montego, i was at 18psi with agressive timing. on 16psi with pump gas timing it would be much closer i would be right there with the viper and camaro. how is your setup running? i actually made close to 430whp with the setup i sold you at 16psi. so it seems to flow better then my current kit. it is most likely the vented wastegate.
|
Wow, that's very impressive... any dyno graphs of before/after your changes?
|
i will get the dyno graph of my 16psi pump gas setup. the dyno around here seems to read a little on the low side. it is a dynojet as well. i should be dynoing the car this sat with the current setup. i street tune now and it seems to work out much better since it is ambient real conditions. i use the performance vbox to measure gains. i went from 8.89 seconds 60-130mph with the pump gas setup down to 7.96 seconds at 18psi. it should be around around a 130mph 1/4 mile setup. i still plan on running a bit more boost i just need more fuel now.

nice, you're the only one posting FD kills in this forum. wish it was like the supra forum where multiple people post their kills.

i know supraforums is full of kills, something new on there everyday. everyone needs to get some vids up on here of their runs.
here is the 16psi pump gas dyno graph. http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/a...407whpdyno.jpg |
nice:icon_tup:

also forgot to add the mods list to the camaro. he is going to dyno again on a dynojet. his current numbers were off a mustang dyno.

The setup is good. I was runing 15 psi and that turbo kicks in real quick... Perfect for street use. My mechanic loves it, actually at first he thought the turbo was brand new because of the condition. The bad side to this story is that I had to get my engine torn apart because after the rebuild it kept leaking coolant from the overflow :(. But the turbo set up is great. :bigthumb: |
yea the vented gate is good for 20whp up top so it does help. do an open cut out for the wastegate. i heard some of the dsm guys using this setup and it would work great. that way when you need the extra hp it is there.

Never heard of that so I'd looked it up and came up with this pic: http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0849_large.jpg Now I'm not comprehending what the benefits are.... |
Put a small muffler on the wastegate outlet if noise is a problem.
|
benefits of the cut out is just to not have the noise all the time. you can open and close it when you would like. but the vented wastegate does account for a good amount of power. i lost exactly 20whp at the same boost level from your kit to my current kit which has a re routed gate.

ok it's research time.... Not grasping how one goes about closing it. Yeah i saw your thread where you compared dyno charts between your old set up and your new. Anyway enough about this don't want to derail your thread :) great vids man! keep it up as I live vicariously through you guys ha ha |
my buddy did have a vid of me and the viper. he didnt catch the run since he couldnt pull the camera in time. but here is a quick clip of us at the light after the run. we were going to possibly do a dig run but there was minmal room up front.

every time i watch a video of yours it makes me feel great knowing my car will do the same one day.

no effect on spool time. just a loss of power. i dynoed 427whp with a vented wg. and 407whp with a plumed in wg. i can probably overlay the before and after dyno.
|
Killa!!!
|
Wait so if you plumb an external gate back into the exhaust it causes a power loss?

here are the dyno graphs. it was actually 421whp. but you can see i make a slight more midrange with the wg plumed in. thats always the trade off for more top end power.
|
Thanks for posting it. Nice to see the difference.

thanks for posting that! you made up my mind... I am plumbing it in! Seriously bro I have been wrestling with this decision for along time now. Yes the vented wastegate yields a higher HP number within the last 500 RPMs, but it also yields less in the midrange. In other words the "area under the curve" remains about the same. It's something I didn't catch on your other thread until you overlapped them. As I used to think that it was a TOTAL loss in power through out the powerband, but I see that's not the case. It's a no brainer now :D |
