396 fwhp SRT4 Neon Kills Stock FD!

I was caravanning to Englishtown Raceway Park in NJ for Street wars 2/ Evo-vs-Wrx/ Mazda Zoom Zoom event... There was 1 Evo with 509 4whp a 2nd Evo with 550 4whp and a Neon SRT4 with 396 fwhp...

I knew these cars were tuned but did not find out to what extent till after we got to our destination... I thought I had the best chance against the Neon. So we lined up on 95 south NJTP for a third gear pull....

I was in 4th and dropped it in 3rd and floored it. At first I pulled ahead by a half a car, but as I was accellerating the Neon caught up and walked me strong. I threw 4th and he was a half a car ahead. By the middle of 4th he had a whole car length on me...

What a surprise!

He told me later he was running 20 psi on a Gt 35 60 Turbo... 396 fwhp...

I said to myself... It's still a Neon.... Plus we were parked together and everyone at the track was photographing my car and saying, "ooooh an RX7, LOOK!"... Nobody noticed his Neon.... Hahahaa....

Oh well.... I am going to have to sic my friends FD with the R85 Turbo on him to put him back in his place!

another neon hater, it may still be a neon but you can't denie their freaking fast when tuned. good death i also lost to one a long time ago when i was stock on my TII, the neon was pushing 282whp so he walk me lol.

dude, thats not a bad death at all! you only lost by 1 car length in your stock fd to a 396 whp neon?? i would have thought hed put 10 lengths on you. he doesnt weight much more than you with a 150whp advantage... somethng isnt adding up. that srt4 will lay down 120+mph in the 1/4... traction should not be an issue with a 3rd gear roll... how were you able to stay within 1 car?

The neon could have had 396 fwhp but it might have not had driver mod.

He and his passenger are fat as hell... I also held 3rd gear a bit longer than he did...

All jokes aside he seems like a cool person, even though they had jokes afterwards about the outcome.

:rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh: ah aha ha. thats great! sucks that his weight could slow him that much! i acutally have seen this before. I raced a new R1 with a fat dude driving when i had my EVO (high 12s at this point w/ a launch)... looked like big pun on the motor scooter in that video. i barely won but still, that bike should have rocked me. the damn thing was sagging over the rear tire.

jokes should be on them... you held withing 1 car length of his that is making 150+more whp. if anything that says something about the fd....

Damn Duane, I didn't know your car was stock! With those aftermarket wheels, you're probably actually running slower than a stock FD actually. Nice run man, you definitely made a nice showing, gave those guys something to think about :)

heimbo 08-28-06 11:47 PM

Since I'm an SRT-4 and FC owner I figured I would chime in.

There are a few cars on the road I actually would be excited about lining up against and an FD probably would be one of them. To this day I have only seen a handful of them on the road so I'm sure the SRT-4 owner was probably a little overexcited about the run.

Nice driving on your part to keep it close, because it sounds like it should have been a walk even with obese passengers.

Which stage was the Neon? Neon aren't that bad, I don't get why FWD's get bashed on so much? Understeer? Not race prepped? FWD pulls suck? No driveshaft? :dunno:

He might have been just keeping enough space to prove his point and not acctually going all out.

I seriously doubt that. I take it you've never made any highway pulls before.......

I have and I rarely go more than I have to...It's all about the mental games. If someone sees me pull 10 cars on a car, they'll know not to mess with me, but if they see me pull 1-1.5 cars on a civic, then they think they're going to kick my ass.

???? personally i like the respect that another car owner gives by not wanting a race after they see me pull 10+ cars on an e36 M3 (this happened this weekend). go all out or dont go at all IMHO.

Rich:

I really think you are correct... If my car were truely stock, I would have walked him... lol

ok but if the fd was putting 396 whp it would be a different story against a 396 fwp neon.

jic 08-30-06 03:38 AM

winning a race in a neon is like winning a race in the special olympics.....

A 396 whp neon against a stock FD? You guys are dreaming to think the FD had any chance. You cant compare the two. Spend the $$ the neon guy did in mods to the FD and now we have something!!

yeah, that was my point at the beginning. i have noticed some peoples definaition of a car length is much more than an 'actualy car length.'

I dislike to those cars *but* something is going on here. A stock FD should not even come close to hanging with a 396 FWHP neon. Even with a fat ass passenger, unless the dude is 500+ lbs. He has enough HP to overcome any driver incapability especially from a third gear roll.

Good death but I say it was one of these scenarios:

1) The guy was not going all out
2) For some reason your stock FD is much, much, much faster than the typical.
3) The SRT-4 has something wrong with it
4) The SRT-4 wasn't putting the power to the ground
5) The guy was in fift gear the whole time
6) He lied about his mods and HP

I think its most likely #3

sorry man but seriously the numbers just don't add up. A healthy stock FD dynoes at around 225 RWHP so he had 175 more HP. I'm all for the 7 but I have to stay real.
