Great, thanks for not letting me know. I guess I'm dealing with another 520hp@11psiFD character again ? :squintfin

wow.
I need to take a depe breath.
awesome.

I just saw the video. Fuck! Car sounds nice.

hey all this talk about HP vs. torque doesn't really make any sense.
you guys are talking about peak horsepower figures that don't mean much

what gets you off the line is torque
what continues to accelerate the car is torque. F=ma it really is that simple
horsepower is the ability to continue to deliver torque at engine speed
peak horsepower is only of momentary relevance- what matters is how fat the torque curve is in the usable rpm range

those of you who remember calculus know what I mean when I say 'area under the curve.' sorry it's the old physics teacher come out to play second- and third-derivatives with the car guys.

i'm drunk right now but i'm pretty sure this makes sense...

think of it this way:
Two Yamaha R1s make 360hp at the crank. They could not pull a 3000lb sled faster than an unencumbered v8 camaro, even though both rigs have roughly the same power/weight ratio. this is because bikes have very peaky torque curves. they do not make enough torque across a broad enough range of engine speeds to pull that kind of weight. a pushrod v8 does.

Even a heavily prepped race v8 has broad torque curve compared to a rotary. It's narrow compared to a tow truck or showroom stock car, but broad compared to a rotary. v8s fucking pull. that's what they do. my lumpy old truck pulls 4's and 6's all day, and it's tuned for hauling. ok not 'tuned' but it's stock and bored .030 over, the perfect combination for high speed intake charge at low rpm= low- and mid- range torque.

In this case the rotary was much better prepared than his, enough to make up for the lack of displacement and torque. I'm impressed any time you can drop a v8 with a rotary. nice 'kill'

Damn impressive considering what a tiny little engine package the 13B represents. No other motor can make this kind of power yet remain so light with low cg/roll center and low polar moment of inertia. that's why I still love the rotary even though it is nowhere near a sturdy as the piston engine. Its geometry is unparalleled. Your car may have cost more to build than his but it's just as fast, looks better, arguably sounds better, doesn't make you look like a redneck, and most importantly to me it can go around corners quickly, too.

If you rolled your windows up you would do better: at those high speeds wind resistance rises proportional to the cube of speed!

Yes area under curve is what matters, no one said othersise. So I fail to comprehend why you brought this up.

You cannot have HP without torque that is a given. But you cannot apply torque without a given time (HP ;) ). So what really gets you off the line? The reality is that you car is not moving without both. What good is having torque if you never apply it (zero HP)...

so in other words, I can ditch my car and go out get me a MACK truck since they have the fattest torque curve around right?

Torque is the force. HP power is that force is being delivered under a given amount of time. The quicker the force can be delivered the faster the car.

For an ideal experiment you are given two engines and given equal times, equal torque, but different HP. The higher the HP the more work than is being done in the same amount of time. Same work in LESS time, which = faster acceleration

Now this is just a basic explanation. Other factors come into play which we are ignoring.

1) like you said the area under the curve peaky rotary HP curves are not the norm anymore. People are choosing turbos with this in mind now.

2) aero dynamics

3) suspension

4) gearing

i'm drunk right now but i'm pretty sure this makes sense...

the derivative is the rate of change of a given function. The integral of the given function gives you the "area under the curve".

One of my friends just sent me new unseen video from that night. It is unedited though.

Whooohahaha. Eighteen pages.
I have an idea of how this whole thread should have gone, and it woulda only taken one page. Check it out.

PDVIPER77: Hey guys. I ran this really cool race. Some cops came, but just to tell us how cool our cars were and give us free McDonald's food. It was a blast!

Lupe: Oh that's cool. Well, I am surprised you won. LS1s are pretty much way better than every other engine ever made, even tuned ones.

dakotaguy: Yep I agree. Even if the other engine/car setup makes way more sense.

matty and some other guys: fuck u rotaries rock and your argument is silly.

Lupe: That's true...I guess we should base our argument on solid facts, like the great times that ls1s run and how solid it's hp/torque numbers are.

Dakota guy: yea. And there is no need to say things like "fuck u"

matty: *sigh...you are right.

Lupe: Don't get so down on yourself! You are right too, man...rotaries are SUPER COOL!

Matty: It's so great to have such good friends on rx7club.com!

Everyone:It SUUUUUUURE is!

...can't we all just...
get along?

whatever u think. fact is this forum has been filled with little immature bike riding clowns talking shit about the ls1 and rotary. its pretty annoying but what really gets under my skin is the rotary to ls1 converts who run around this forum bad mouthing the rotary. if they are gonna do that they mine as well just leave. the problem stems from the owner not the engine.

edit...another thing thats pretty annoying is that a pussy ass like yourself has to bring a thread back from dead and stir shit up again. grow up.

!

i;de put my rotary against a v8 mod for mod anyday. we can talk about 3 scenarios (now i am talking street cars...obivously u can build a 1500 rwhp v8):
1) basic bolt on vs basic bolt on ===fd wins
2) large single vs 150 shot===fd wins
3) stock for stock === edge goes to v8

ITS N STI 04-09-07 12:13 PM

1) I've never seen a "basic bolt on" FD go 12.0 @ 112. I have seen a basic bolt on LS1 camaro do that.

2) a large single costs how much? A kit can be as cheap as $300 brand new.

PDViper77 04-09-07 12:55 PM

Here is the new found video: It starts out with my crew heading over to south St. Louis. The camaro race to 175mph is at the end along with the cops......

OK.
I mean, I didn't know that threads that were still on the main screen because they were the most recent threads in a certain forum were considered dead, but to each his own I suppose.
I find it neat that you are responding so negatively when I never said anything mean about you. You also have a really offensive and negative tone in just about every post of yours I have ever read. You are telling me to grow up. Ok, that's a valid opinion. I will try to be more grown-up in the future. You, in the meantime, since I was so nice and took your advice, need to take mine and relax.
Not everything is an excuse to get angry and start cussing and calling people "pussy asses."

1)et is all about traction and therefore meaningless for this discussion ...on 10 yr old rubber i went 12.2 @ 118mph with a 2.0. do you know what that means in a street roll race....bus lengths

2) u are right about the cost...but i can get a rx7 for 11k and a z06 costs how much? this thread isnt about cost. its about apples to apples.

ur whole post is a generalization....u expect people to not take offense?

furthermore u are sort of agreeing with dakotaracers perspective who is known fucking idiot on this forum. anyone who can side with such an immature idiot well....u know what they say...birds of a feather....ya know!

you are right abotu soemthing...i am angry....angry about what kind of shit takes place here

rajahFD 04-09-07 02:46 PM

If you are so angry about what takes place here, why don't you just leave? Easy as that.

Don't worry matty, I still love you, even though you have temper tantrums.
