Road Race FD / GT35R / 400WHP / Clutch Setup ??

Guys,

I know there´s opinions all over the forum about the clutch setup for FD´s.

But is there any agreement about what to use for road race on 13B ??

I target to make 400WHP on a single GT35R, and first would like to get some advice about my stock very good condition clutch would take it or not.

On the other hand I have the engine / transmission out of the car so may be is a good time for a swap.

Budget si VERY tight as I have spent most of the money on body, ECU & Turbo kit.

Any advice ?? Should I take my stock clutch to death and replace later ??

Or there´s any decent priced setup thay may work better ??

May be some good condition used clutch ??

Gracias..!!!

I wouldn't even bother with the stock clutch. A few fourth gear pulls will kill it. I'm running an exedy twin disk with 500 whp.
I might have a used clutch for you....but shipping to chile won't be easy...?
What flywheel are u running ?

the stock clutch will not hold. i would recommend getting a stiffer pressure plate and a sprung 6 puck disc. this would hold ~400tq.

how much boost are you going to run? 14 psi will make about 400whp. i would keep the power under 350whp to keep the heat down and the reliability up.

which turbine housing do you have? a 35R has a small turbine wheel, and even a T4 1.08 housing will have more backpressure/heat than desirable. i would not be road racing with this turbo with over 350whp / 12psi. a T3 housing will be way too much heat if you're actually racing for 30-40 laps...

Hi,

Am running the whole stock transmission setup. Stock gears, clutch and flywheel.

I don´t really need it shipped to Chile, I usually ship to Miami and they take care of the international freight.

Am on tight budget, so may be a good used one is a solution.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Thanks.

First of all thanks for your advice.

Based on local regulations, so far the car may fit only as a Time Attack car; so I don´t really expect it to do more than 5-6 laps at a time (Estimated 1.10" Minutes per lap).

Turbo is a GT35R /T4 1.06 Divided Exhaust / Open Wastegate / Haltech P1000 Electronics

I have not tuned it yet, but the target is around 400WHP for a competitive car on the local track.

I would take the target down to make it more realiable if I need to.

Any advice to keep the heat / back pressure down ??

I have a ducted FMIC / Bigger Twins Ducted Oil Coolers / Ducdted Koyo Rad / etc...

Am a newbie on rotary road racing so any advice is more than welcome, specially on this side of the world where these engines are kind of a taboo...

Thanks..!!!

That's kind of the same direction I'm going with my build.

Time attack car with a GTX3582r and T4 1.06a/r divided turbine housing. I'll have different boost maps but I will have a 500WHP map at around 23PSI (hopefully) that I can use for like a 2 lap hit to try and set a fast lap.

I have the Mazdatrix 4.5lbs flywheel and will be using a Quartermaster 5.5" twin disk clutch. It is supposedly rated to 600ft/lbs of torque and the entire clutch unit is only 5.6lbs and super tiny. It can fit in your hand. I've attached some pictures.

The only thing is that it is not a pull type clutch, I'm not using an FD transmission.

You are going to need either:

* Multi-disc clutch
* Puck clutch with a high/extreme pressure plate

The multi-disc clutch is the best option, but it's also going to be twice the price. The puck clutch will work and be cheaper, but it will be less desirable when getting the car moving from a stop. If the car will truly only be used on the track, that's not a problem. You don't want to drive a puck clutch on the street as it requires more slip to be smooth which will just wear it out very quickly.

It's not a better transmission that's for sure...

The engine is going into a 2005 RX-8, and it bolts right up to the stock RX-8 drivetrain with the engine mount that I have, so I am going to use the RX-8 transmission that's in the car for now. I suspect that it won't be able to handle the power for that long. My long term goal is to get a faceplated (dog engagement) T56 transmission in there but I don't have the money to do that within my current deadline.
