no, drifting is not racing....but it does matter how fast you are going... speed is judged just as much as how much of an angle you are getting.

Soo. Because YOU didn't hear about drifting until recently it MUST be a NEW sport?. Apparently you are the final say in what is or what isn't racing.

People are competeting against eachother....whether they are judged subjectivly or by time it is STILL racing. All you guys bitching and considering drifting as dumb and just fun...Grow up and admit you are jealous you don't have the car control to do it!!!!!

Also ......My uncle and I ( when i lived in Florida) went TT racing( autocross) every weekend. These were timed and the winner got NO $$$$. The point here is that this "racing" that we were doing ,...was only considered a hobby or fun thing to do by everyone who raced there. So for you guys to draw a line in the sand and say that YOU will not allow it to be classified as racing., you just sound stupid. Get over it and try it,...you may like it!...BTW: I DO NOT DRIFT... I am just sick of seeing all you friggin babies bitching about this topic. I race and I consider drifting a "form" of racing....

Also his comment about going 220 was stated as a fact that he likes to go fast. ( and he is saying in KPH) Nowhere does it say he drifts his bike at 220KPH. Get your arguments straight before you talk. Oh yeah one last thing....way to support a fellow rotory enthusiaest;) Regardless of if he/she is a little kid!

Drifting IS NOT racing for the simple reason that the word racing implies a timed event.....get from point A to B faster than the other guy......

So I dont even understand how anyone could consider drifting racing....Sure it may be an "autosport" like trials riding but by definition it IS NOT RACING!!!Period.

Now you guys can bitch about whether it is a legitament Autosport!!!!!!!!

What an incredible thread. It is amazing that those who drift or like drifting have any reason to defend the idea that it is not racing. What, are you a closet racer that just happens to think think drifting is a equivlent substitution? Jump on the drifting bandwagon and you are the shit! Imply drifting some how requires a level of car control that transends other forms racing. Since we are general in our description of racing, I'm sure you mean all for of racing too, right. Gee, I never knew the best drivers in the world were drifters. Seems if I was the best I'd be making millions in Rally, F1 or NASCAR. I think the skating analogy is used best. There is skating racing and their is skating competitions. Skating racing (i.e. speed skating) requires a winner defeat his competition as a matter of speed. Said well by ajazeller. No style points! Winner ahead of other competitors in terms of first one over the line wins. Thats objective. Skating competitions requires a tremendious level of skill, disipline and control. But reality check here, they are not racers nor are they racing. The are judged. That is subjective. They are competing. Drifters, no need to defend yourselves as racers. Your not. You are competitiors in a competitive sport that requires skill. Unfortunatly, your sport requires a certian subjectiveness and that is the difference. Its not better, its not worse just different. If you want to be a racer, go race. If you want to drift, then drift. It is obvious that they use some of the same skills so you could do both. In one car control is part of a means to and end-winning in racing. In the other, its tyhe end. Drifting is not racing.

Oh and one more thing, this section is made up of people who have paid a fair amout of dues and money over a long period of time to earn a wise and educated opinion about what they do. For anybody to appear and support a demand that is not necessary other than for the sake of arguement, is not wisley choosing their battles. As far as I know skating racers and figure skaters, motocross racers and freestlyers, downhill ski racers and freestylers, all have no problem understanding the difference in their sports.

Yep they are nuts!! Lots of skill but NO racing involved. ( so far I have tackled a 6 foot verticle, 20 some day:) ;) )
